I had a a series of awful experiences here in December 2020. My cat was very sick. He was seen on a Friday, the vet told me I would get a call on Monday. On Monday I called repeatedly and no one in the clinic seemed to know I was expecting a call back. Eventually a different vet called me back but didn't' have any information. then I brought in my second newly adopted cat for an examination just to make sure she was ok. The vet called me back to say she had some gum infection, at first he said that she would likely be fine with brushing. Then he said she may need all her teeth extracted within weeks. During the conversation the vet called my my cats "two lemons" and "two duds." I was also brought up that I had only been given a few days of meds for my first cat and then I was told that I should wait to see if he throws up and if he does i should renew the medication right away. He threw up that night and began refusing food again so in the morning I called and spoke to yet a different vet who told me he would leave the prescription at the desk so I could pick it up. I specifically asked if I could come right away and he said yes. I went to the clinic and called to say I was there to pick up medication. They let me inside and told me they would have to speak to the vet and he was in an appointment. I explained that the vet specifically said he would leave it for me to pick up, the receptionist told me i was being rude and had to sit down. I was extremely anxious at this point so I sat in their waiting room trying not to cry until she left and I could ask the 2nd woman at the front desk about getting my cats medication. She checked and was able to give it to me immediately. After that experience I did not want to go back so I took my cats to a new vet to get advice on my boy's stomach issues and my girl's teeth./gums The second vet was extremely helpful and was able to confirm that there was nothing unusual about my girl's gums and that tooth extraction was not necessary at all. During that week I spent so much time trying to get call backs from this vet and I spent a ton of money. The second vet I want to was much more communicative and charged a lot less for similar services. Overall I think the issue is that the vets rotate so its not possible to talk to the same person consistently. Some of the staff are kind but some are surprisingly callous. I would not go back or recommend them to anyone based on those factors in addition to the expensive pricing and disorganization . Read Less

We have been bringing Aslan to Cats Only since we moved here.He was treated superbly by all of the staff. Dr. Ko and Dr. Janet were highly skilled competent and compassionate. Not only do these people really know cats, there are no barking dogs. It's as low-stress a clinical environment as possible for our beloved pets. I had great confidence in their diagnoses. They had worked with us to find the best solutions to make an aging cat more comfortable, healthier and happy. Aslan passed away at 19+ years old this past summer in my arms at the clinic with a combination of barbiturates, pain killer and tranquilizer. Thank you. Read Less

We've been clients here for two years with a pretty needy kitten/cat. Our cat has stayed at the Cat's Only "hotel" twice and been seen by several of the vets for a range of reasons, from a check-up to a medical emergency. They even helped us get all of our paperwork in order to move our cat overseas. Honestly, I only have great things to say about all of the staff that work here, including (and especially) the receptionists and vet techs who have gone out of their way to make my cat and myself feel comfortable. When the vet saw our cat for a first sort of 'get to know visit' she wanted to take 'some tests' to confirm something we already knew: Our cat has asthma. (Our prior vet who unfortunately went into retirement had already confirmed this with us. We showed those documents to the new vet). She insisted she must take the tests to be 100% sure that our prior vet's was right with his conclusion. Once the results came in the vet literally said: 'these result cannot really confirm something like asthma, however, it does look it might be a possibility.' So they charged us over $350 just to being able to tell us that MAYBE our cat has asthma, which we already knew (confirmed and documented), before we walked in there.. Most expensive and 100% absurd meeting with a vet ever... Her dishonesty was the only thing that was truly IMPRESSIVE from this clinic. Read Less

Do not take your cat here. I took my cat here for years and the service was great. However, it has changed significantly in the past few years. I called because my cat was having severe symptoms. I had to wait 48 hours for an appointment. I took him in. They did expensive tests and said they would call in 24 hours. I got no call and called them three times the next day. Each time I was told the vet would be right with me. I finally got through close to closing. I was told hyperthyroid although a bunch of symptoms didn`t fit. We had to wait for more results the next day. The following day, no call. I called later in the day and the vet was gone. I called on Friday later in the day and they had sent an email to the wrong address Friday morning. The tests were okay, but they could be a false negative because of the cat's symptoms. My cat was NOT getting better. They would start him on thyroid meds the next week. Well, over the weekend the cat deteriorated to the point that I had to put him down. If they had started treatment and hadn`t dragged their feet, I may still have my cat. Instead, I have a huge bill. Read Less

I recently adopted a second cat and brought her here for an initial check-up. Booking the appointment was extremely easy and when I got there, the staff was well-organized, friendly, and very accommodating. To top everything off, because the adoption was from the SPCA, they didn't actually charge me for this first appointment, which I think is a fantastic program! I would absolutely recommend this establishment and will definitely be switching my other cat over to this clinic as well so that he can receive the same great service. Read Less

I have a regular vet in our old city and had heard good things about this place just down the street from our new home. They definitely know how to treat cats. There's a Feliway in the waiting room where I was given a few minutes to acclimatize my upset kitty. She tends to flip out, which she still did, but I had forwarned and the tech was well prepared. They had a container of fresh catnip and a little toy she ended up coming home with. Everyone was very knowledgeable. Costs were a bit higher than my usual vet in Richmond, but well worth it considering they know their furry feline friends. Read Less

This was not a problem at all and i understood that theses things may happen. But instead of re-booking i told them that i would have to go elsewhere as one of my cats had a time sensitive shot (according to them from a previous phone call). All of the sudden they said oh we can probably fit your cats in for shots and exams because we do not want to loose your business. So what happened to the other cats emergencies that you called me to cancel my appointments in the first place? I am glad its not one of my cats that lost the cash face off. By the way the time sensitive shot that they were trying to sell me on was complete bogus according to my new veterinarian. Until difficult times, I thought Cats Only was an ok vet clinic, as there are so many in Vancouver. But I had 2 elderly cats and we have made more visits to the vet than we would have wanted recently and yes, there are a lot of tests and it is certainly not cheap, but the technicians and vets are very nice, compassionate and real cat lovers. Recently one of my cats was very sick and it turned out she had terminal cancer. The staff was genuinely caring and had tears in their eyes when they found out, which was very touching. Dr Ko is absolutely amazing and loves cats, this is pretty obvious. When our cat died and we were at the clinic, they gave us all the time we needed and they were excellent in explaining how the cremation worked, were very sad for our loss, and it felt very genuine, even though they probably deal with illnesses and dead cats every day. For that reason, I really feel comfortable going back and recommending Cats Only if you genuinely care about your furry friend(s). Read Less

Yesterday our cat Theo got stung in the mouth by a bee.  We called the Clinic and they said we should monitor him for swelling and any other concerns.  After he started vomiting, we called back and they said to bring him in straight away.  When we arrived they greeted us and took us right into the back with Dr. McLean.  She and her assistant was very nice, gentle and reassuring with Theo.  Dr. McLean checked him out, took his temperature, asked if they could clip his nails and her assistant did so.  They asked us questions about his food to make sure their chart was up to date and took his weight etc.  They then advised their recommendation was to give him a antihistamine, anti-inflammatory, and fluids (due to the heat and his persistent vomiting) and suggested we could leave him there for the afternoon to monitor him.  When we left, Theo was cuddled in the assistants arms and we felt safe and reassured leaving him in their care.I was a bit concerned about what the bill might be as my friends were suggesting it could be high - however, it was very reasonable and I was pleased overall with his care and the results.  Theo recovered nicely and got his appetite back around dinner time.I would recommend Cats Only Clinic any day as they are friendly, knowlegeable, confident, well-priced and the Clinic is clean and welcoming. My 2 year old cat was having a problem with episodic, stomach-emptying barfing. After doing some searching on the internet, I was concerned it could be something significant (in addition to being icky) so I figured I'd better bring her into the shop.I brought her to see Dr. Ko, worried it might be something significant and expensive. I liked Dr. Ko's "first-principles" approach to the problem, wanting to minimize invasiveness until simpler things were ruled out first. So she prescribed a course of de-worming meds to address that common cause, and suggested a change in diet. A little over 100 bucks out the door including meds, which I thought was reasonable (and a lot less than I feared I might have to pay). It's been over two months now, and she's been 100% barf-free, and has become even more affectionate. So I'll call that a quick, cheap, and effective fix for a healthier, happier cat! That's what I went to a vet for, and that's what I got. It's also worth mentioning that I really liked Dr. Ko's manner: she came in to the examination room, introduced herself, and sat right down cross-legged on the floor with my cat to put her at ease. She began her examination of her body with almost a stroking motion, then as my cat got more comfortable, got to poke and prod a bit more without alarming her. This is a huge contrast to vets I've gone to before, where the vet stands behind a table and the animal is plunked down on a steel examination table. I as really impressed with her manner and how well she handled my cat and kept her at ease throughout the process. If I could give her 4 1/2 stars, I would. The only thing that keeps me from rating 5 starts is that the interaction terminated unexpectedly for me, as Dr. Ko left the exam room to fetch the medicine and didn't return (an assistant came in after a few minutes to talk me through how to administer the medicine). I got good info from the assistant, but I would have liked to have been able to thank Dr. Ko and end the exam that way--I fully expected her to return in person with the medicine herself. I expect she likely got called away and asked an assistance to walk me through the medicine so that I didn't need to wait, but it would have been nice to have the assistant make an apology for the doc. This had no impact on the care my cat received of course, but was a minor ding in terms of customer experience, hence the slight downgrade in rating.I will definitely be back should my cats need further vet care. Some of the reviews here must be from people who have zero idea what vet costs and the cost of pets are. Sure there are cut rate vets in Vancouver, but you get what you pay for. Vets with out of north America training, lack of compassion and follow up.   Okay with that rant over, on with the review. My cat Chub Chub acquired a flea circus and guess what she is very, very, allergic to fleas. So her skin looked like a before photo from ProActiv. They have the best exam rooms and let Chubs run loose to relax which was great. They also phoned twice after to follow up and check on her progress. I'm surprised to see all of the negative reviews.I did not feel like the vet (Jay) was trying to get any more money than was necessary out of me. When I first got there, the vet was hesitant to do an X-ray because it was a little pricey, but I told him that I have insurance so it wasn't a big deal. It turned out that my cat had bladder stones and would possibly need to have surgery. So they sent him to Canada West to be monitored overnight (now THAT was a terrible experience...see horrible review given on their page). The vet at Cat's Only explained the situation in detail, showed me my cat's X-rays and double checked to make sure the receptionist gave me directions to Canada West. The vet at Canada West recommended that my cat undergo the surgery at Cats Only the next day. So I took him back there the following day. When I arrived in the morning to drop him off, the receptionist informed me that she made a mistake on my quote and had to add some things. She said that I could pay the lower price since it was her mistake, so I said that I would rather do that as at this point my insurance was running out. She seemed frusterated, I guess because she would have to admit her mistake to her boss. And asked me to sign the higher price quote. So I said, ' I guess I'm paying this price then'. She sighed and gave me the lower quote to sign. I'm not normally a cheap person but, considering at that point  I had already paid $2400, I wasn't going to settle for the higher price if I had a "choice". That was my only complaint, but she called me about 15 mins later to apoligize for her being frusterated with me. Which I thought was nice. I've been receiving regular updates throughout the day on my cat's status, and the vet has been extremely pleasant. The vet actually suggested that we flush his bladder rather than do the surgery, which would be less invasive. This was a huge relief as I really didn't want my cat to have to go through surgery, and the flush is significantly cheaper.I will definitely be going back to Cat's Only (but hopefully not too soon). The positives first: great staff. Great Dr. The not so positives: pushing everything on me. Extra here, an extra there, it all adds up. I just felt like I was emptying my pockets afterwards and it didn't feel nice. The follow up phone calls after happened 2 times, even though I said I'd call them. I really don't like the pushiness, it makes me an avoider.I just can't justify coming back here. I will take her back to my other vet who I had no problems with. I just thought a Cats Only would be better, but it was just more expensive. Read Less

We were really happy to find a cats-only veterinary clinic, thinking that they would be real pros and understand what cats need and how to help them. It seems more like an endless sales pitch, instead. The first thing you notice when you enter the building is that it's all very very clean and very pricey looking. A large part of the waiting room is taken up by huge displays for Royal Canin, a very expensive line of dog and cat food. Yes, they have private rooms for your cat to wander around in before the appointment, but so do other cat vets. Our cat had a cough and wasn't meowing anymore. The vet we saw examined our cat perfunctorily and then announced that he needed x-rays, lab work, and tons of other things. After getting the x-rays done they proceeded to tell my girlfriend that he might have cancer, he might have very bad food allergies, and he might have a lot of other things wrong too. But there's no way of knowing, so we'll just have to do more tests... the eventual bill was something like $800, and he came home with gel for his chin because he scratches his chin sometimes, some samples of some very expensive (like $40-50 a bag!) prescription cat food that they sell, and nothing else - nothing for his cough. They called eventually to tell us the lab work was fine.I took him back a week later to try and get some straight answers about his cough, which was worrying us, and the first thing they wanted to do was do yet another $350 chest x-ray. When I pressed them for justification I was told "well, it doesn't cost me anything, so I just like to be sure..." Mostly I felt like I was getting sold more of their very expensive food.I'm pretty sure the vet that saw our cat was new, or at least had very little experience with cats. After making an appointment at the Vancouver Feline Hospital, I found out after 10 minutes that our cat has a dental abscess which is causing his laryngitis and cough. Case closed. And he doesn't have a food allergy - we went back to his old food weeks ago and he's happy and loves it just like always.Long story short: Don't go to Cats Only. Save hundreds of dollars and get the right diagnosis: go to VFH instead. Read Less

Read Less

So what happened to the other cats emergencies that you called me to cancel my appointments in the first place? I am glad its not one of my cats that lost the cash face off.

AWFUL!!! Do not go there. It is all about sales, not about our pets, people. It took us 2 hours and $80 dollars to find out that they can't operate cancer on my cat. We had all needed labs done in another clinic (paid $800)  where we found out about the cancer  - but "Cats Only" refused to perform the surgery and wanted to do a bunch of their own exams. They never mentioned it on the phone when I called them and explained everything including that we might need a surgery. It's just disgusting how they speculate on poor animals. Read Less

These are great vets and staff who actually care about your pet and you. If you prefer a cut rate vet who could give a damn then go there. Read Less

Read Less
