I feel compelled to counterbalance some of the other terrible reviews.  Admittedly Dr. Brar's bedside manner is somewhat brusque.  The facility itself is stark and uninviting.  But on several occasions now Dr. Brar has demonstrated to me exceptional skill as a vet.  He successfully performed a long and complex surgery on my dog, which several other vets had shied away from.  He correctly diagnosed an issue with my cat that another vet had misdiagnosed.  Are you looking for a new friend, or are you looking for a skilled vet?  Try to look past the presentation style of this clinic. Don't bring your cat here! My cat started sneezing blood about a month ago. In a panic I started calling around to vets and Delbrook was the only one that could take him in on short notice, which I was grateful at the time. The doctor wanted to sedate him and do x rays which I expected and also thought blood work, urine and stool samples would be a good idea. $1000 all in but being distraught I agreed. I just wanted to know what was wrong with my cat. He told us to pick him up in two hours. When we got there, all his blood work etc was fine and he DIDNT SEE ANYTHING in the X-rays so brushed it off as allergies or infection and gave g antibiotics and see ya later. After the antibiotics were finished he started sneezing blood again. We went to a different animal hospital recommended to us who did a second set of x rays and guess what! He has a mass taking up the entire right side of his nasal cavity and we now have to go to an oncologist. So $1000 spent on a diagnosis of allergies or infection when really he could possibly have cancer and had to pay for another set of x rays to find that out! So incredibly unimpressed Read Less

It was 9:00 at night when my dog began to have seizure, we weren't sure what it was as he had never experienced it before so it could've been anything for all we knew. We loaded him in the car and called them on the way to make sure they would be able to take him and they said they could no problem. When we arrived they told us that they couldn't take him because they were closing and referred us to VCA Canada emergency hospital in Vancouver which was an additional 25 minutes to drive there. Absolutely horrible customer service. Automatically assumed I was Persian and would not speak to me in English. Told them it's the first time I'm there and they kept bringing files of other dogs with the same name as my puppy. So dumb! If I'm new there should be no file. Made me wait 1.5 hours just to get vaccines done. Exam rooms are super warm, thought I was going to pass out. My 4 month puppy had a tear duct swelling (cherry eye) in her eye because she scratched it and the doctor recommended surgery! I asked for eye drops to reduce the swelling and after a week it didn't get better. Went to another vet and they said my puppy needed a steroid drop not a lubricant as provided and that surgery should be the last option, especially for a puppy. The new drops from the new vet worked and my puppy is back to normal, no surgery needed. Delbrook only wants your money, do not got there! Read Less

We have taken our puppy Luna to Dr. Barr three times for puppy shots and to trim an unruly dew claw. All experiences have been favourable and Luna enjoys the experience as much as possible. On our first appointment , I asked the front-desk staff to get her a treat to make her feel that going to the vet was positive and they did so this without question. As long as things keep progressing with Luna's vet care at this rate, we will continue to use Dr. Barr's services I have read some favourable and some not-so favourable reviews on this clinic and would suggest that every customers experience is unique and that one should take the time to develop your own opinion based on personal experience. We brought our 18 year old (very senior) dog, Squirt, into Delbrook Animal Hospital one evening when he suddenly collapsed on the ground. They were the only veterinary clinic near to us that was open late. We met with Dr. Ali and all I can say is that he is an absolutely amazing person. He helped us tremendously that evening. He kept our dog until about midnight to monitor him, made sure to call us with an update and then let us come back before closing to take him home with us. Since then, we have seen Dr. Ali on numerous occasions. Recently, I took Squirt in to see Dr. Ali when he again fell ill and my husband was in the hospital. Dr. Ali was very compassionate and helped us beyond what we ever asked for or expected. It is very clear to see that he is an animal lover who has the animal's best interest in mind. He helped us when we were having a very difficult time financially and I know from past experience that not many vets are willing to do this. Given the fact that our dog is very senior, I am always very impressed with how Dr. Ali handles him. We have had issues finding a good doctor in the past to deal with our dog as he has very bad anxiety. I will only bring my dog to Dr. Ali after dealing with him. He is a very kindhearted individual. To say the least, Dr. Ali has helped our family and our little guy beyond our expectations. We actually believe that our very senior dog is still with us today because of Dr. Ali! I have (and will continue to) recommend Dr. Ali to anyone who asks! Thank you so much! Read Less

If you want your pet to be treated with love and care, please avoid this place at all times. The staff and Dr Brar have no compassion towards animals or respect towards humans. We took our 1.5 year old maltese in for his knee issue. Dr Brar fails to understand not all of us are a canine doctor. He diagnosed my dog with "Luxating Patella". Thanks to my friend and dog walker, I know what it actually means. He looked at me like I should know this terminology. He tried to conduct further tests and he handled my dog way too rough. Moreover, he wanted me to hold his head and legs, while his staff stood there watching. Then he later realised its not my job...he asked for his staff to assist. Safe to say, we were all pretty traumatised. He continued to keep flipping him, holding his already injured/hurting leg up!  The staff who work there are utterly useless. They were so scared to even touch my dog. Lets remember, he is a 1.5 year old, 8 pound maltese. Nevertheless, isn't that why you work in a vet clinic? To help animals and not be disgusted by them? Dr Brar said they he might need an x-ray and eventually a surgery. My favourite line " I see you have insurance, you can do it". All he cares about is, how much you can spend in his clinic. He had no manners, no people skills. He then proceeded to say its $50 for a consultation which me and my friend mostly helped him with. His staff stood there staring and making face, and rolling eyes. We then proceeded to make the payment. Cherry on top of all this experience - the rude abnoxious and incompetent staff". They asked who my provider is to print out my forms. It took them 20 minutes and I am not kidding/exaggerating. How difficult is it to google : Pet plan claim form". Seriously? While we waited, my friend and I were chatting. One of the staff says: " can you please complete your invoice first?". Both of us were dumbfounded! I'm sorry we are waiting for you to complete your job. We proceeded to wait another 5 minutes, then I asked if they were able to find the form. Answer: yes, but we cannot print it for you". I finally gave up and said I could do the claim myself. No response. By now its almost half hour. Then they finally give me a form, we sign and leave. I get a call an hour later from the staff saying they gave me the wrong form. They gave me a UK form instead of a Canadian form. I was already traumatized by this whole experience, I had to express how incompetent and rude they are. The response was just "oh sorry, can you just complete the form". Please please do not take your pet there! The only doctor who is compassionate and actually does care about your dogs is Dr. Ali. He only works there part time. Safe to say, we will be changing vets, and possibly to ambleside. If anyone is reading this review, and knows a good vet please send me a message. I would very much appreciate it. Read Less

After years of grieving I finally have the energy to make this review to help my fellow animal lovers. I wish I could give this man a minus infinite stars. With tears in my eyes I went in with my dog not knowing what was going on with him. He took in my dog and told me that he will have to do some tests that we already did at the ER and he kept talking about giving me a discount price. At this point I didn't care about the money only my dogs health. He said he will have to have him overnight for 2 days and we agreed. When we got a call to come in he said with no emotions that we have to put him down. I cried so much because all he did was have him on iv fluids. I said is there anything I can do and he said that we should take him to a specialist but it wont help. WHY didn't he sent us to one in the first place. He kept talking about prices and it pissed me off. I took my dog to the specialist but my dog started having seizers on the way and when we got to the specialist they took real good care of him. He in the end passed. I grieved for 3 years and I finally had the energy to write this review. This place does not care about your pet. They only want your money. My new vet for my other dogs are the most perfect place ever. No one should ever have to go through what I had to go through. My dog died because they wanted my money. Read Less

Please be aware I am only giving one star because I have to to be able to post, but it really doesn't even deserve that!!!I took my pug there after her cast slipped off her broken leg.Granted it was a Sunday, but it specifies it's open 24/7.  Walking into the office, there's two cats who of course are quite inquisitive and my puppy was struggling to get down and chase....broken leg or not....asking that the cats be put away for a bit seemed like I was asking to move a mountain...the receptionist was put off, and seemed frustrated we were there. The receptionist was too casual about the situation, called the "vet" ( and I use that term loosely) to come help....20 minutes later he strolls up, Starbucks in hand, and gives us the disclaimer that the exam and consultation is $50, before he even looked at my puppy.  She had her leg broken 2 weeks ago so it's definitely not healed and dangling loose and out of her cast.Walking into the office, there's two cats who of course are quite inquisitive and my puppy was struggling to get down and chase....broken leg or not....asking that the cats be put away for a bit seemed like I was asking to move a mountain...the receptionist was out off, and really way to passive about the whole situation. He asks me extremely basic and vague questions that are so ridiculously lazy that it became annoying.  Then he puts his hand on his hip and says "what do you want me to do today", ummmmmm......I want you to help my dog..... "What is it that you want me to achieve?"  I need her arm stabilized and re splinted so she's comfortable.....This "vet" was arrogant, rude, condescending, and just plain insensitive to the panic of this situation.  After all of this, and wasting close to 45 minutes....I walked out, no splint no resolution and a dog that had a broken arm (both bones) and a "vet" who really didn't give a shut because I wasn't offering to leave her overnight and pay his fees without a proper consultation. How you got favourite vet of the north shore is beyond me.  Your bedside manner and lack of sensitivity to the emergency was in humane.  I warn anyone who goes here.  I drove another 10 minutes and 20 minutes after that we were on our way home, Daisy had a beautiful new splint that this vet actually cut and pasted a "daisy" flower on.  She was happy and comfortable and had treats to boot.Shame on you Delbrook Mall Animal Hospital....shame on you!!!!! Where should I start.. hmm ok lets start there:I bought a coupon from an online coupon site that got me 2 vaccines and a dog or cat exam for 19 dollars, sounds great right!? NOPE. I brought my dog in to get his vaccines and FIRST the vet tried to get me to pay again and was persistant until I put my foot down. SECOND I asked him about what the vaccines were for that he was trying to sell me and there was one he didnt know the answer yet he offers the vaccine at his practice.. he would stray away from the question and not answer what it was for.THIRD he injected my dog with the first vaccine and after he was done he pulled the plunger back up... why would he do that? I will tell you why. Because when he went to give the third vaccine to my dog he picked up the one (which was filled with air) that he pulled up and covered the needle with his fingers (perhaps) so I couldnt see the lack of contents and injected my dog with AIR!! which I believe could be deadly. After he was done (it all happend so fast) I brought it to his attention and he blamed his glasses for the mistake... but why pull the plunger back up?I am now even questioning the contents of the vaccine and if it was actual medicine and not just water. I felt as if they were trying to scam me in every which way. If you dont want to give people deals then dont sell a coupon deal! I wont be going there again! Read Less

So far so great for usRead Less

Read Less

Horrible experience with Dr. Brar at Delbrook Vet yesterday. The good vet - Dr Louis - is no longer there. Dr. Brar is not caring and compassionate and didn't seem to care about my bichon. I brought him in for ear mites and needed some ear drops. That cost $195. Dr. Brar's main concern was trying to get us to take blood and urine tests for another $250 bringing the ear mite bill to over $400! Gets worse ...Will write more later.

Read Less
