We took our puppy here for his puppy checkups and vaccinations. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly and sent us home with a bunch of samples to get us through the thick of the puppy chewing phase. Our vet Dr. Rose gave us ample time to ask all of our "new parent" questions and gave us all the information we needed to decide what vaccinations were right for our puppy given his "lifestyle". She was very gentle with our puppy during his physical examination and he was completely at ease the whole time. And the price of our visits was much less than the first vet office that we visited (which is nice too). Read Less

Part of me wants to not tell you about Dr.Rose out of fear that she'll become so popular we won't get to see her. The other part of me knows how hard it can be to find a vet you can trust and who doesn't make you second guess their recommendations out of fear that they're running a cash grab. We've been really lucky in our vet choices, so when we needed a vet closer to us because our pup is afraid of the car, a friend told me about her amazing experience with Dr. Rose (She has 2 geriatric cats and one needed teeth extracted. My friend was surprised when Dr. Rose called and said they didn't need to remove as many teeth as originally planned, so they didn't; no unnecessary work being carried out causing the kitty undue stress at my friend's expense). When we went to see her we instantly liked her.She was kind and patient with our questions and gentle with our pup who has had all kinds of issues (rescue puppies really are a surprise bag). She has never criticized our choice of a raw diet (some vets are very vocal against it because they are sponsored by large kibble companies like royal canin or purina), and has a way of communicating that makes you feel at ease. She takes the time to explain issues and gives you a good idea of whether they're things to worry about or things that are just quirks of your particular furball. Our pup has fearful behaviors and Dr. Rose took our concerns to heart and referred us to the only animal behaviour scientist in the lower mainland. They worked together to come up with a protocol for Harley (our pup) that includes pharmaceutical help as well as behaviour modification (you can't train a terrified dog so the pharma is to help her establish a calm baseline to work with). When Harley got spayed they were so caring, the vet techs immediately showered her with love and praise, you could tell they're all animal lovers there and we felt at ease leaving her with them. During the procedure Dr. Rose noticed Harley had extra premolars on her palate and called me to ask if I was okay with her removing them. She quickly explained the reasons why it might be worth doing, and I gave her the green light. She also noticed Harley had a paploma on her paw and asked if she could remove it, taking advantage of Harley already being under sedation. I didn't feel she was trying to add work, I got the sense that she noticed these things during the examination before the spay and thought it would be good preventative measures to take. We were kept updated throughout the procedure and even told there was 24hr care so we were welcome to call and check in on our girl at any time, even to say goodnight. To top it all off, the staff there are super helpful, and always answer emails quickly. They've worked with me to deal with our pet insurance company who made us jump through some extra hoops, and they file all my claims for me so I don't have to do a single thing. I'm truly grateful to have found such a gem in pet health care a stones throw from our home. I can't speak about the other docs as I read some not-so-great reviews; but Dr.Rose is wonderful and I absolutely recommend her. Read Less

Amazing experience, no complaints. They're very organized and friendly and were able to fit us in for an x-ray promptly and then was very accommodating when I had to call back and reschedule to an earlier time. Dr. Thatcher is patient, kind, and gentle and is super positive and caring. Having just moved here, we were looking for a vet and am thrilled to have found a great one on the first try. Update to this - it's been a year and we have consistently gotten great service from caring vets every time! Everyone on staff is helpful and accommodating. I called with a semi-emergency after they had already closed and the staff who answered still answered all of my questions and didn't try to rush me off the phone. She gave me advice and let me decide what I wanted to do, which was to ultimately wait until the morning and take my dog in first thing. If I ever move further away I'm going out of my way to come back to them. Read Less

Not for the first time, am I appalled at the lack of care and professionalism at Granville Island Veterinary hospital. More fool me for sticking with them over the years, I suppose. Here is one of my experiences:My dog has been registered here from his puppy neutering stage into his maturity. However, it seems to me, unless it is a simple procedure and easy diagnosis, Bill Ignacio, my vet, does not seem particularly interested. Its almost like we were an inconvenience. The new vet was night and day. I was asked many questions about my dog's behaviour and any changes in him, and it was immediately suggested he may be suffering from Cushing's disease-for which we set up tests the next day that ultimately proved positive, and now we are in the process of managing his condition. After two months at Granville, I was left clueless and worried as hell. What a refreshing change from the, apparently, tired, disinterested, arrogant and surly Bill Ignacio in my experience; my new vet actually listened to the person who knows my dog best. Me. What a concept, eh? Something Ignacio never took the time to do. The new vet actually looked him over properly, from the hair thinning to the pot belly and nodules on his skin, to questions about overeating and excessive drinking/urinating to express an educated guess-something that is like getting a blood out of a stone at Granville Island lest someone sue them for being inaccurate, I'm guessing. Never, would they ever commit to an educated opinion, reliant ONLY on going through the motions.Granville Island Veterinary Hospital, is, apparently, more expensive than most, but I can't help but think solely because of its prestigious locale. If you think more expensive equates to better advice and care, please think again. Never have I encountered such disinterest from the professionals we are supposed to rely upon, and in this case, in the care and well being of animals who can't speak for themselves. Look around, among the, apparently, glowing testimonials here, you will see the nightmares of others all over the Internet. The only efficient people at this place can be found behind the reception desk. Read Less

Dr Rose was also excellent with respect to following up to make sure our dog was ok after reacting to some vaccines. One time when Dr Rose was not available, the office staff made sure another Vet was immediately available. Dr Thatcher (not about the spelling) was also very kind, gentle, genuinely concerned and great with following up. The front staff was also very nice and always remembers us and our dog.

Read Less

Granville Island Veterinary Hospital year after year receives the award for best veterinary practice with good reason. My various cats and dogs have been patients there since the early nineties. The front desk staff are outstanding and always so pleasant. They are exceptional listeners and provide a calming atmosphere, empathy and sincere sympathy when sad occasions arise. There are enough vets there that if yours is off duty someone else will be there for you. They're open 7 days a week. My vet Dr. Rose does not "pooh pooh" my holistic approach combining practicality and science. She emanates genuine caring for my two beloved dogs.

Read Less

Dr Rose is amazing! We have a brand new puppy and she was very gentle with him and told us everything we need to know about taking care of him. Dr Rose was also excellent with respect to following up to make sure our dog was ok after reacting to some vaccines. Dr Rose really does have the best knowledge and personality out of any Vets we've seen in the past with our other pets. One time when Dr Rose was not available, the office staff made sure another Vet was immediately available. Dr Thatcher (not about the spelling) was also very kind, gentle, genuinely concerned and great with following up. The front staff was also very nice and always remembers us and our dog. With all the experiences I've had so far,  I can't think of any other place I would trust to take our puppy. Thanks everyone at Granville Island Veterinary Hospital! Read Less

Yesterday was our first visit and I couldn't have been more impressed. Dr. Anna Wallace was absolutely fantastic with my very elderly dog. She was knowledgeable, gentle and really understanding of my big guys particular needs. The front end staff was super friendly and efficient. The clinic itself was clean, welcoming and had an upbeat vibe. And to top off my already positive experience, my bill was less than what I'd imagined! With my dog, that's pretty rare. Read Less

This is an AMAZING Vet Hospital. The staff are extremely professional and friendly. You can tell they love all the animals. There are no weirdos in this hospital. Vancouver is lucky to have such an asset in this community. I can't imagine not having Dr. Adam, Dr. Rose, Dr. Ignacio and most recently Dr. Jody take care of my two terrier X. Also the technicians are equally amazing, professional and kind. And, last but not least the Admin staff who are extremely efficient, helpful, and polite.
