Our first experience with Central Animal Hospital wasn't under the best circumstances. Having arrived in Vernon only a couple of months previously, we didn't know where any vet clinics were. Unfortunately our dog collapsed in front of us, and we needed to seek immediate attention. I remember seeing the signage for Central Animal Hospital so I headed in that general direction, while trying to get an emergency vet on call. Sadly when we arrived (well past closing hours), our poor pug had already passed on. The staff at Central Animal Hospital were truly amazing. Not only did they open their doors after hours and try to assist, the care and compassion they had for us really helped. They treated our lovely dog with care, taking time to wrap her in a blanket and give us some time to say goodbye. With our two young daughters, this really helped them (and us) calm down and make us feel at ease. More recently, we brought our 11-year old cat in as she had been experiencing some health issues. Dr. Keith and the techs were super knowledgable, listened to each and every one of our concerns, and described possible treatments and outcomes. Our girl Bailey has a condition which will require medication for the rest of her lifetime, but I am very confident that with the care team at Central Animal Hospital (and lots of love at home), will have a well-managed and happy life. We thought our dog was unexpectedly dying. We called all the vets in Vernon and they all said they were busy for hours, which we didn’t think our dog had the time. When we called this vet, even though they were busy as well they said they would at least let us bring our dog there and they would be able to watch her and wait for until a doctor is not busy to examine her. All the staff was so kind. They were informative of what may happen to our dog when the doctor checks up on... her such as blood tests if needed, possible x rays, etc, and pricing. They made sure that they had our consent to those procedures if it came down to it. During the car ride there our dog had an accident and the staff were also nice enough to give us some supplies to clean it. The doctor was also very informative of what the causes may have been to our dogs sickness. While our dog was there for a few hours they also fed her some food, and gave us the remaining bit for free. We bought a few cans that they suggested and our dog loved it. i have had many positive dealings with all of the vets and staff at Central Animal Hospital as my dog has had some health issues ,unfortunately. These ladies rock! When we had to put our dog down in October, they were totally ready for us with a private room. They brought us straight into the room so we didn't have to sit in the waiting room. We recently moved to the Vernon area and had to find a new vet. A trip to a vet is always a stressful experience, but it is compounded when extra trips and expenses are created due to there lack of attention and unprofessionalism. Math isn’t there forte as not once have we gotten the right amount of pills for the animals prescriptions. One of our animals recently had surgery and was not properly prepared for travel which resulted in another immediate surgery at our expense.... We have never had this many incidences at any vet, so we must have picked one of the worst clinics in the Vernon area. We sent the clinic an e-mail about our past experience, and we have never received a response back from the clinic. This clinic truly does care about animal health and client service. The front desk staff are wonderful, always welcoming and great with my animals. I called on a Friday afternoon with a very minor emergency with my cat. Dr. Keith was fully booked but I was told to come right in. She saw us between appointments but still took the time to treat my cat without seeming rushed. Fantastic group! Read Less

Going to the vet for your pet€s annual check-up is no big deal, but when your pet is suffering, it can be extremely overwhelming. This is the situation I was in, last year, when I moved to Vernon. My beloved cat, Nevada, had come down with a very bad upper respiratory infection and her health was rapidly declining. When I took Nevada into Central Animal Hospital, I was greeted by a friendly and caring staff. Over the next few, heart-breaking weeks, the doctors and staff took care of me along with making my Nevada as comfortable as possible. As a single, full-time working mom, life is never easy, and times of stress can be extremely draining, but knowing that everyone at Central Animal Hospital genuinely felt for us, made a huge difference. After Nevada passed, everyone was very sympathetic, and in time I received a lovely, heartfelt, personal card, which provided closure. I really felt that everyone went above and beyond the requirements which made this extremely challenging situation somewhat manageable. When my son and I are ready for a new fur addition to join our family, Central Animal Hospital will be our first stop when it comes to the health and wellness of our new pet. Read Less

My Benito was the very first patient at the new Central Hospital location. I left him there on June 2nd with the words: "He'll be your good luck charm; he's such a GOOD dog!!" And he was a good dog. THE BEST. Dr. Keith met us at 5:30 in the morning when my 12 year old beloved fur baby Beni, was not only sick and nauseous but seemed to have stomach pains... What we thought at first was maybe pancreatitis turned out to be something much more serious. Truth be told I had a feeling it was going to be bad because normally if I put him on a vet table he would try to climb up me rather than lay there. This time he just laid his little head down and i was instantly terrified. Central is not our regular vet/hospital. I was visiting my parents in Vernon at the time so there i was at 5 in the morning searching Google and simply picking one that sounded the most compassionate and loving... Going on a wing and a prayer.. So although I had wanted to be at our own vets office, the moment Dr. Keith picked him up , I knew he was in good hands. You can't fake empathy. Unfortunately i lost my little buddy when ( thanks to an ultra sound machine on the premises which is rare ) they found the source of his pain was blood in his belly and rushed him into surgery. Had they not had an ultrasound he certainly would have suffered longer.... It was a burst cancerous tumor on his adrenals and so I was forced to race back down and say goodbye right there in O.R. .... a moment and place that of course is not ideal and still breaks my heart... They had nearly lost Beni several times on the table but had kept him alive so i could ( along with his " sister") at least say my final goodbyes.... It was yet another link to my soul mate and Husband whom bought him for me as a puppy when we moved from Vancouver to Kelowna and whom passed away prior...3 1/2 years ago. Love is love and grief is grief. Still grieving now but did want to share that even tho it was not our vet and hospital that i know and trust, I know Dr. Keith did everything she could to try to help and save him; was kind and gentle with him and for that I'm extremely grateful... Helped us out on two occassions- both being emergencies after hours and were very helpful and courteous and saved both dogs lives. What surprised me most was that my grumpy old dog who hates all, really seemed to like the staff, especially the vet, and this is quite a rare occurrence for him.Read Less

I've had two of my cats spayed here with these guys. Cost is average for such an operation. I like how they do a follow up the next day to make sure your kitty is still doing alright :) Also, the receptionists seem quite knowledgeable themselves in how to look after animals, and give friendly service.
