We took our dog in because his eye (we think) was scratched from playtime at the dog park. Red, swollen, green discharge, the works. The vet did not even try to look at his eye to see if it was scratched, there was any debris, nada. I thought they would try to flush the eye and at least look at it. Instead we got a medication, plus two other medications and an $80 charge for an exam that, in my opinion, was not even performed. $244 later and I'm not even confident in what I paid for. Will NOT be going back to this vet. Read Less

We were visiting the area from Seattle when our cat got one of her chronic URIs. It's always the same drill- get checked out, no fever, get a 5-7 day prescription of Clavamox. While driving from Tofino to Victoria, we stopped at 7+ vets and all were booked and couldn't squeeze us in. FINALLY, we stopped at Burnside. The doctor (I can't remember her name) overheard us talking to the receptionist and came over and said she could see us right then!  The doctor did a thorough examination, gave recommendations and treatment options for our Persian, answered all of our questions about her URI, allergies, etc...She also gave us detailed notes for us to take back to our original vet in Seattle. She is fantastic. Unfortunately, we heard she is moving to Colorado to attend school for a specialty in dentistry so she won't be around much longer, but definitely visit her before she leaves! All the other staff were friendly as well. And the prices weren't too high. I think the examination was $75 or so, which is on the low end compared to other places we called. Also, we found the building itself to be very nice. It was very clean, and there were 2 separate waiting areas. I am used to going to clinics that could always use a deep cleaning or there's always a smell lingering.... Perhaps we arrived right after they cleaned, but nonetheless, the place was in fantastic shape. Cleanest clinic I have ever been to! Overall, this was one of the best experiences I have had seeing a vet. I couldn't have asked for anything different- great doctor, nice building, clean, knowledgeable, inexpensive, accurate, friendly, warm, caring...etc. I highly recommend. Read Less

I have to admit that I mostly chose Shaw because it is literally 2 blocks from my house, and I own a car-phobic kitty.  We moved to Canada from Seattle a little over a year ago (that was a fun car adventure - ugh), and he was overdue for some vaccinations and a check-up.  (Sometimes he gets smelly bum glands that need to be drained, but that's probably TMI. Haha.) However, I am very pleased with the service that I received there.  I found the staff to be very kind and personable. It was very easy to book an appointment in a quick time frame. Their services are affordable and reasonable.  They doted on my terrified kitty. During my first appointment, we met with Dr. Foley, who I found to be thorough and knowledgeable. He mentioned a few options for vaccinations and routine tests and was very up front about their pros, cons, costs and necessity for an indoor condo-dweller cat. At the follow-up, we met with a vet tech who was incredibly lovely. I'm glad that I feel so comfortable with an office so close to home, and I have every confidence that they'll continue to take good care of my best buddy whenever the need arises. Read Less

This review is regarding the clinic's new addition, DVM Mark Foley. He's the type of vet that gives all vet's a bad reputation, and in my years of being a dedicated pet owner, he is the worst I've ever encountered. He prematurely suggested unnecessary medical procedures, caused my dog needless suffering, and was only interested in proposing "solutions" that financially benefited him. His arrogance was nauseating and I'm remorseful that I let this scumbag even touch my pooch. The vet techs at this clinic are wonderfully kind, and prior to today, I've had nothing but positive experiences with the clinic's other vets. It's a shame that Burnside clinic employed this slimeball, as I feel that the support of this business is no longer in my pet's best interest. Read Less
