Dr Wilke & Dr Sang are incredible. Carla Wilke goes well above and beyond to help answer questions and explain how to best care for your animals. She is so patient with or timid dog! While it can be pricey (like most vet clinics), I would argue this one’s worth it! Dr Sang helped us say goodbye to our 18 year old pup and made his passing as peaceful and compassionate as she possibly could. Both vets are always willing to talk further on the phone if you have concerns or issues. Not to mention the front staff are great - specifically awesome experiences with Zoe and Thao! Dr. Irwin identified an ear infection that was missed repeatedly over a number of years by our previous veterinarian. Dr. Irwin was knowledgeable and very thoughtful in her approach to the health our cat. We certainly appreciated the advice she gave us for the continued care of our cat especially with regard to dental care. Our appointment was a most pleasant experience for Miss Kitty and ourselves. Staff makes or breaks a company. When each visit is positive and your greeted with a kind, compassionate and caring team from the front office to the vets and vet techs, it’s important. I switched my vet since they were pushing me to get unnecessary exams..and gadgets. I like the fact most of them are cat/dog owners. Had my cats tooth removed and the entire procedures went smoothly. Very clean and friendly staffs. Read Less

Very disappointed in the treatment we received at Ambleside Animal Hospital. Dr. Booth was extremely rude.We have been customers for 12 years, and between regular checkups and routine care we have had absolutely no problems.In short, our dog had a complicated case consisting of a possible ACL tear and concurrent back issues. The communication was poor. When a surgery was recommended, The staff informed us that they were required to disclose that the surgeon was not board certified. We asked why the surgeon (Dr. Kahlon) wasn't board certified. We were just inquiring in to what board certification meant, and if it really mattered in our situation. The surgeon refused to answer the question, somehow got offended by a simple, reasonable inquiry, and decided to refuse to treat our dog. Even after taking our money for his consultation, he walked away.Then understandably, we were not confident in their consult and went elsewhere for a second opinion to a different animal hospital, which had completely different findings.We had a meeting with Dr. Booth, where he didn't introduce himself, nor seem interested in our meeting. My sister and I tried to share our disappointment with the miscommunication, the action of the surgeon, and to why our second opinion differed so greatly from their assessment. He then proceeded to belittle us, and dismiss our concerns completely. His tone and choice of words were extremely condescending. After this level of disrespect, he took no responsibility for the action of the surgeon, and provided us with no further discourse to help alleviate our issues.At this point, I realized from the beginning he didn't care. He was not aware of the issue contextually, and he in no way was willing to solve this problem or hear our concerns.Safe to say we will not be returning. Read Less

I have been going to Ambleside Animal Hospital since 2008, and I don't have Pet Insurance. My two Yorkies are my children and spoiled rotten. I would not trust them with anyone but Dr. Booth. I have moved out of the area since 2009 and still I make the drive to W. Van to see him. He actually tells me I don't need this or that.... He is very very knowledgeable and explains treatment plans. The health and well being of my pups is very important to me and no one has unlimited funds, and because the way he deals with me, I can trust that the money I am spending is going towards their well being. That is priceless, knowing that based on his advice I did the best thing for my pups and there is peace of mind. When I have left my pups there for surgery, they would call me the moment it's done. Dr. Wilkie always calls. Peace for mind is what I would say about this place. Thanks to everyone at the hospital. Read Less

After being a Pet Owner for pretty much my whole life, lets just say I have visited my far share of Animal hospitals. In my option I could not have found a better clinic! I had just moved to town and meet another pet owner which their dog had the same condition as my mine. She recommended Ambleside Animal Hospital because they always take such good care of her pet. I always get the same Veterinarian, which knows my whole fur family very well. she never rushes a visit with the animals, you can tell she really cares. I am always able to drop in a pick up all my dogs different food (5 dogs and 4 different types of Dog Food) and treats. Anytime I have an emergency they always have time to see my Pets and never recommend any unnecessary procedures or "funny charges". I love this clinic and I can not express it enough. This is the best place to take your animals. The receptionists and assistants are friendly, and try and get you in as soon as possible to the examination rooms. When you call in to get an appointment they are all up to date on our dog's history etc. They are great at sending you reminders of what your dog's next visit should include. Dr. Chris Booth is awesome. Very personable and informative and explains what he is doing and for what reason, and provides you with options if necessary. He is great with animals and he gives you the time needed and you don't feel rushed during the appointment. He answers questions. (Wouldn't mind him as our family Doctor, but he doesn't look after humans). If a report comes in from pathology he lets you know himself. His attitude is very positive and upbeat, and our dog enjoys the visits as much as her master. This is our 5th Golden Retriever and we have the best Vet. yet. Read Less

Terrible. I had been going AAH for years, but never again. Litany of errors, poor communication, they blamed "new staff" for such, but wound up charging me for the error (misquote). They should be responsible for training their staff and if the staff makes an error, the client should not be penalized. I would have foregone the unnecessary procedure had I been quoted correctly. Instead they misquoted, did the procedure, and then ripped me off. Even when I very calmly and lovingly protested and said that it was not fair and very poor customer service. My husband said I should have just walked out, but instead I paid my bill, told them I hope it was worth it as they just lost a long term client with multiple pets, and left. They are also wildly overpriced. Charging $900 minimum and up to $1500 (if there are issues) for a teeth cleaning? Maybe because it's West Van, but really? A simple Google search will show you that's nuts. I literally never leave negative Yelp reviews ... prefer to spread the love with positive ones, but in this case, I'd prefer to warn my fellow pet lovers. Go to Hollyburn Vets down the street and save yourself headaches and overpaying.Caveat: The doctors are loving and caring, but they are not good business people and some of the front staff are great, but the doc on staff still chose to charge me for her admin person's error and no amount of pet lovin' makes up for bad customer service. Ambelside has been one of the best service experiences we've ever had, not just the best veterinarian services. The staff are always keen to help, the vets are all knowledgeable, thorough and genuine pet lovers/owners themselves. Ambleside is hands-down the most comfortable and loving environment you could ask for, especially when you and your little fur buddy are in need of a little extra care. I usually take my dog ,Matthew, to this clinic. They are the best Animal Hospital ever. The clinic is always clean. All the staff are super nice and organized. My dog's doctor is Dr. UpJohn. He is an extremely informative and kind veterinarian. He pays attention to every detail and cares about my dog. He always follows up with us if my dog is ill. My calico 13 year old cat Molly was missing for weeks and came home with a huge hole in her backside. I tried to get her into 5 vets on the North Shore and no one could look at her immediately or even take a quick look at her. She was near death. Ambleside Animal Hospital took her in immediately and discussed her health and immediate procedure she needed with me. The $ was extremely reasonable and she is in top shape hunting mice etc. and this is 2 years later. The Hospital has amazing staff and it is very clean. I am so thankful. Read Less

I moved from Edmonton a little over a year ago and we searched around for the right veterinary practice. I have worked as a tech assistant/vet receptionist as well, so I knew what I was looking for. We actually went to a different clinic first before finding Ambleside. The staff are excellent - knowledgeable, friendly and incredibly considerate. We have seen several different vets here and they're all wonderful. They are very informative and also don't try to wrack up a huge bill. I have 3 dogs and wouldn't want to take them anywhere else. Dr. Wilkie was very kind, informative and knew what she was doing when I took Kingston in today for acupuncture. He recently herniated a disc and I was told to take him to acupuncture by the specialist. As always, I had a lot of questions and Dr. Wilkie was more than happy to hear them out and provide me with her knowledge. I can't say yet whether or not the acupuncture was helpful, but I did instantly notice some relaxation. Also, I booked an appointment with her next week but she was all booked up.. She didn't hesitate for a second to schedule me later in the day when they don't typically do acupuncture. Kingston is limited in movement so when I need to pay the techs watched over him and even helped open my car door when I left. Thanks for all your help. Read Less
