after a tough day at work I was dreading taking my grumpy but sensitive cat to the vets. He had an eye infection and was miserable bordering on nasty. Within a minute of walking in the door I was placed in a lovely quiet sitting room ,away from the big dog in the waiting room, and given a soothing cup of hot apple cider. My previously grumpy puss was rolling with joy in the catnip that had been placed on the floor for him. Dr. Schwartz was very gentle and soft spoken with him and the exam seemed more like a cuddle. Dr. Schartz and his team are amazing. After being gouged at another vet clinic and presenting quite upset over it, the Assiniboia Animal Hospital team came to my pet's rescue and listened to our needs. He was gentle yet firm with our cat Bebe and I was shocked at how well Bebe responded to him. He was so good! Bebe has been tricky to deal with in the past so this was beyond amazing to see. He gave us what we needed in terms of recommendations (tests/meds). He gave us options and spent the time explaining things to us. Being greeted at the front with care and respect was also nice. We don't often see this anymore in our society. We are forever grateful to the team and are actually looking forward to bringing our other cat in for her visit. Thank you team Assiniboia!! My little puppy Gus was very sick with parvo and they truly were so wonderful in treating the illness and bringing him back to health. Without them he would have most likely died, the frequent phone updates were much appreciated as we were sick with worry. Now he's a healthy happy puppy and we have Dr. Schwartz and Betty to thank for their tender care and constant supervision. I called right when the clinic opened at 8am In hopes of getting an appointment that day for my cat to get a vaccination I had forgotten about. The person that answered the phone was very polite and friendly and she had scheduled me an appointment for 10:15 that same day. Upon getting to the clinic, I had brought my cat in and all her paperwork from the humane society since I wasn't sure what they needed to know about my cat, as we were a first time patient there. We were interacting with the cat and dog in the waiting room and we were seen before our appointment time. The vet was WONDERFUL. She explained everything so well to me and was great with my cat! She was genuine and caring. We were in an out of the clinic within 20 minutes! I also really appreciate that the clinic will mail out vaccination reminders to me for my cat, in case I forget. I took my teacup in because she was not eating. She was 10 years old. They said there was nothing they could do for her and it was just a matter of time. They gave her a needle for pain and told me to bring her back the next day and they would have to put her down. I found out a week later she had an infection in her mouth from a teeth cleaning. It was too late as the infection was through her 4 pound body. 2 days later, she passed away at home. They did not care at all. Pump her with pain meds and they wanted to put her down. The staff at Assiniboia are very attentive and treat their patients well! I've had many good experiences with them and would highly recommend them for new clients. You can tell the staff care about their animals and when the solution to an illness isn't obvious, they'll go above and beyond to figure it out! I also love how much work they do for the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, they see and treat every animal in their care, including my two cats I adopted, one of which came in in very poor condition! Great animal hospital. I have taken my dogs to them for 30 years and they never have failed me or them. Dr. Schwartz is a wonderful vet, kind and compassionate. His staff are great and very patient with both me and my dogs. I feel that any treatment that is perscribed is accurate and certainly effective. I lconsider the price for treatment to be very reasonable after all these are my precious animals that are being treated, and I appreciate the standarf of care that they recieve. got told my dog would need pain medication, by the time i got her home, she was jumping and playing and clearly not in pain.  I was hesitant to take the meds, but i was looked at like i was cruel if i did not buy it.  2 days later i noticed i really bad scrape on her paw, I had called the hospital and they had told me that is where the shaved her to draw blood, and to bring her down so they could look at it.  (how many dollars would that have been).  My question is; why would they not tell me that they had cut her paw while shaving her, and to keep an eye out for it, or even to bandage it.  I had my suspicions about this place when i first walked in, they had a list of extra charges for extra procedures that i might consider for her.  I said no to them all since they were all completely unnecessary.  I will NEVER bring my dog back to this vet, as $ seems to be their main  concern and not paiteint care.
