It is simply one of the best vet clinics I have visited. We recently moved to Winnipeg and were trying to find a place to spay our cat. Not only the prices are very affordable compared to other places, the level of care and attention to details is just fantastic, you will literally feel the coziness of this place. They honestly treat your loved one as a human, giving him/her the best they can. Both Drs Boyd and Robertson have taken care of my feisty 8 lb. poodle, Joe, who is a happy 17 years old in a gentle decline. This is an expensive time, which is only to be expected as old age brings infirmity, and both vets have been sensitive to the limits of my budget while we figure out Joe's best care. They have answered my questions in full and been willing to spend the time to educate me about Joe's issues. The service itself has been responsive to emergency calls (he just ate 4 giant chocolate cookies! He just had a seizure!) and I have gotten quick and useful advice over the phone without cost. All the staff, vets and support staff, have been kind, friendly, and easy to deal with. Finally, the costs have been cheaper than at two other veterinarian clinics I have used. I'm really fond of Birchwood. I went for the first time after a bad experience at Assiniboine animal, and found both the vets I had at birchwood were a little more gentle with my cat. I also appreciate that they take emergencies promptly and when I arrived that day without a cat carrier or leash I never heard any negative feedback; even though I know it's proper protocol to have them securely leashed. I brought my dog in to get his nails cut and they refused to do it because he moves too much. Only other option according to them was sedating him which is ridiculous. I wonder how his regular vet manages to do it. I do not recommend this place. Read Less

We have had both bad and good service here. I do not like the layout, and in the past some of the staff can be down right rude. The location is convenient and the vets we did work with were understanding and caring and did take some extra time to try and give the best care with the knowledge they had. If it is routine care I would use this clinic, if it was is something more specialized, I would look a little further - but every case is different. Price has been fair. Read Less

Have been taking my pets to Birchwood Animal Hospital for fifteen years. The Vets and staff at Birchwood are outstanding. They are compassionate and always take time to answer all of my questions. I have been through serious health crisis with some of my pets over the years and Dr. Robertson has always been compassionate and truthful even when the news was difficult. Her honest advise helped me make some of the best decisions for my pet even though it was difficult and painful. I have also had Dr. Preston take care of my pets and she has also been wonderful. over priced, they vets do care but they dont care to help enough, Our cat had teeth problems and it took them 3 days to find out what was wrong, after 800 dollars spent, they found out it was his teeth,. he needed to be on meds for 2 weeks before he could get his teeth extracted which they said could either be 200 dollars or up to 1000 dollars, it ended up being 1200 dollars, they removed 2 teeth, the problems starting coming back not even a month later, which is when we called Selkirk animal hospital in Selkirk and are getting the rest of his teeth taken out for only 600 dollars, they care more about money at birchwood that's a sad fact when it comes to your animals life! This is the best service and care I have ever seen from a veterinary clinic in Winnipeg. They were very quick to diagnose and treat my cat. He was suffering a urethral blockage and after treatment and medications and even a slight infection post treatment, he will make a full recovery. The staff especially Dr. Hannah and Lisa were great with answering questions and having alternatives when issues arouse with my cat. He is a particularly fussy and some what aggressive animal and he was treated exceptionally well. Read Less

Birchwood is the BEST! We had to come in for the dreaded visit that NOBODY wants to do ever. (This particular visit was just a few months after losing a dog also :() From the moment we walked in (sobbing and sad) to when we left, we felt the love from them. The strength that you all have to be able to do that...it gives me an appreciation that I've never had or realized for this profession. Today Adam opened an envelope that came in the mail from Birchwood Animal Hospital. Our vet sent us a lovely sympathy card saying how she could see that our cat Sierra was a member of the family and that what we did was for the best for Sierra. Dr. Preston and the staff showed such caring compassion that Adam and I couldn't be more pleased with the care Sierra received. Many thanks to all the vets and staff for their assistance through the difficult years of flare ups and remission as well as finally her euthanasia. We appreciate it.
