Nice people and good hours but extremely expensive. This is the reason pets are suffering, owners can't afford 200$ for every visit they make and so don't take their pets in for every small thing.

Very knowledgeable group of doctors and RVTs. The staff at Southglen have helped to save two of my pets' lives. My cat had an abscess rupture on the front of his throat. Which left vital tissues and muscles exposed. Whereas my Blue Heeler mix got into something in our backyard that caused her to spike a fever and certain liver values to raise dangerously high. Both animal respectively spent a week in clinic and came very close to losing their lives. While in clinic we received detailed treatment plans and daily updates from the doctors on the status of their conditions. As well as discussion and verbal consent of treatment(s). Whenever asked about veterinary care - I always suggest Southglen. I cannot say enough great things about this clinic. Read Less

Being out of their home environment is always stressful, but they are welcomed with treats, compliments on their good looks and cuddliness (and I am sure the cats understand...what a beautiful boy (or girl!). What has meant the most to us is that Southglen has been available after regular hours when our nearly 19 year old girl was suffering. She crossed over peacefully and surrounded by gentle care. Grew up with dogs and my family spent years trying to find a good vet to take our pets to. After a particularly horrible experience with Pembina Vet, a friend recommended this location, and we'll never stop foot in another clinic again! The staff is friendly and helpful, the Vet Tech's are incredibly knowledgeable, and the Vet's are kind and thorough. When we had our dog put down, they were beyond sympathetic and really went above and beyond for us at a very emotional time. We even received a card from them in the mail a few weeks later. When my boyfriend and I adopted a cat from the Humane Society, we knew we'd be taking him here for shots and checkups. Absolutely wonderful office, always clean and professional and prompt. This by far the worst veterinary organization I have ever experienced. My first experience happened, when I was away on a holiday in the US & we discovered that my one dog was diabetic. The kennel took her in for me (none of us knew she was diabetic at this point), the woman at the kennel told me she had had bad experiences with them, but it was the only vet we knew in the city, as we had recently moved to Winnipeg. I then received a call from one of the vets saying that we should really put her out of her misery. I happened to have been with my son then this call came in, so I told them to let me discuss this with him, so we could make a decision. Then about 140 minutes later we received another call, saying that she had made a miraculous recovery, so they now had to run a pile of tests. These tests did determine that she was diabetic & when we returned home, I was hit with a $3990 bill. Then it got really fun, no one there seemed to know anything about diabetic care, except that we had to buy this really expensive dog food, that amazingly enough, only Vets sold it! When I questioned this to multiple staff members, "so you can't tell me that all diabetic dogs, have to eat this same food", "there must be an alternative"? I was met with shrugs & "gee, I really don't know" answers. No one there could even answer any question I had about administering the insulin & determining how much to give her. I complained about this enough, that they had the Business Manager call me & email back and forth a few times. These conversations only really lead to her getting the 1 vet, that "she said", knew about diabetic care, to finally meet with us. This was better, because I'm sure that she had done some reading, but she was the only one that really seemed to give a shit. I continued to go to them after this, from purely a convenience factor & because, at least they knew my dogs history & honestly, not really knowing how to determine or having the time to determine what would be better for my animals. At least I knew enough, to watch for them trying to scam me? This dog is still with us & eats Purina Pro Plan, with no issues. Figures! Then about a year or 2 later, one of my other dogs had a weird growth on his front paw which he couldn't stop licking & it was now an open sore, this time they determined that it was probably cancer. Then they gave two different treatment alternatives, one was about $2000 & the other was about $1200. I should note that neither treatment was a cure for this, but only a way to figure out if it definitely was cancer. The more expensive, would remove this growth the first would not. They also made a point of saying that, "because this sore was on his front paw, it will spread much more rapidly, so it's important to deal with this now"!Now I'm in sales, so I know the thought process behind giving a customer 2 alternatives, a person will usually pick one. Also at this time my finance, in her past life had worked as a vet tech, so I was a lot more informed than I was before. She as well figured that this again was a scam, so at this point, we did nothing, as he was 15 years old & the anaesthetic probably would have killed him anyhow. So we used a cream on the sore & cones around his neck for a few weeks and it went away. Also important to note is, that I was in the backyard at one point, when he had the cone still on & I got stung by wasps that had built a nest right under a board, that just happened to be in exactly the same place that my dog would stand, for long periods of time...waiting for the neighbours dogs to come out. So my spidey senses are now telling me, that this sore was most likely a wasp bite. I have since moved to a new vet (Central Vet), after some research from & at the advice of my finance. They have been amazing & every time I'm there, I marvel at how little the bill is. I guess with how badly I was taken advantage of by Southglen, anything would seem cheaper? Lol. We now have 4 dogs to deal with & we couldn't be happier. Stay away from these people, if you love your pets & value your money. Read Less

My husband & I started taking our two cats to the Southglen Veterinary Hospital when we first moved into the area. It was close to home and very convenient. Over time, we found it to be much more...it was a very caring place to take our two pets for the care they needed. Last year, we took Jasper, one of our two cats for examination as she was not doing well at all. As it turned out, we ended up having to have her put down. It was very devastating. Jasper, was not only our pet but a member of the family for the past 15 years. Her and her sister, Callie, were my husband's comfort and distraction after his massive stroke, so you see, she meant a lot to us. The staff at Southglen treated Jasper with the utmost care and their compassion for the loss of our dear pet was most comforting. They also sent us a sympathy card with a print of Jasper's paw in the card. That was most touching. We shall continue to take our other cat to this facility because we know she will be well treated. We surely are grateful to them and highly recommend them to anyone who us looking for the best care for the pet. Read Less

He has many significant health issues and they have always discussed procedures and different options are available. They are available whenever I need them whether it is for a regular appointment for a wellness exam or an emergency situation and need to see them within the hour. They know the personality of my dog and because of that treat him accordingly when we come in to make sure he is under the least duress as possible. I was going to leave a 5 star rating because their service and nurses were amazing until....I got banned from this vetenarian hospital. Yes, you read right, banned! Who bans a polite paying customer?! I was very shocked to receive this news as I had not once displayed any rudeness, anger or violence towards staff/vets at South Glen! So I sense that Dr. Sra was strongly behind this decision as one of our discussions about the procedure suggested had lit his short fuse and was very rude towards me over the phone. For those who were saying Dr. Sra was in it for the money, I could definitely see that as he was not willing to listen to my concerns as the owner of the pet and was not very easy to work with. He was making all the decisions by HIMSELF, whereas I have usually seen other vets WORK with other vets especially on a very complicated case as ours. He had also suggested all these procedures which I paid for and it did not lead us to any idea what the issue might have been with our family dog. And I'm sure we all have our own budget and idea of what the diagnosis would possibly be before coming in, yet he completely ignores you and thinks he is right (well...who has known the dog longer in this situation?). And guess what? Our family dog is no longer around now, happy Dr. Sra? I would NOT recommend this vet nor the Best Friends animal hospital as he also works there. Read Less

I used to praise this place, I drove across the city just to stay loyal here (my dog can only eat vet food). After the horrific experience I had with Lochhead, I'll never bring another pet back here again. Don't expect her to have any knowledge or give any educated advice. After their follow up call, I found the extent to which this vet had lied about our visit appalling and disgusting. I had gone to this clinic for years and had a good history in addition to the thousands upon thousands I've spent there, apparently this is worth nothing to them. I highly suggest that if you ever have to be in a room with this Lochead woman, have your camera rolling in order to protect yourself... even though there's signs in every room asking you not to record your visit. Best care! We have been clients there for 8 years. My dog Bosley unfortunately had to have 3 rather major surgeries within a six month period. The recovery time for each was between 8 and 12 weeks. The doctors, techs and front office staff were simply amazing and caring. He now has what appears to be a chronic disease and they have been relentless in trying to keep him comfortable. Whenever we need some assistance they are there for us whether it be first thing in the morning or just before midnight. They care about Bosley just like I do. They know Bosley's quirks and how to handle him to help reduce his stress when he goes in. We have now been referred to another doctor at one of their sister clinics who is a specialist in scopes so they can get down to the root of Bosley's gastro problems. I trust all the doctors at Southglen however Dr. Sra and Dr. Litchfield have been totally immersed in Bosley's care and all the techs and front office staff have been wonderful. I have seen some very negative reviews on Google describing greed, misdiagnosis and flat out incompetence at this clinic, and although that was not my experience I feel I should mention "buyer beware" before continuing my post.I had to bring my 3 month old puppy for a late night emergency after she ate an entire bowl of grapes (!!!!). The vet techs and Dr. Litchfield were all very kind and explained my options and the charges associated before doing any treatments. They gave her an injection to induce vomiting because she didn't respond to hydrogen peroxide, as well as a charcoal stomach pump because her vomit showed that the grapes had mostly passed through. As a precaution she was kept on an IV under observation for 24 hours and was as good as new when I picked her up the next evening. My experience was very positive, although expensive. What can I say about this place? They are the most caring, hard working individuals I have met. I put my full trust in them anytime my babies are sick or injured. Several years ago, my then 3 year old lab was limping intermittently. After X-rays, Dr Sra diagnosed her with hip dysplasia. He was so kind, explained everything in detail, explained all my options, and never made me feel pressured into choosing something that would benefit him or his clinic more than my dog and I. We chose to do FHO surgery with him, and our dog had amazing results. Over the years, he has done a TTA on both knees and a denervation of the opposing hip on that same dog - I would trust no one else for this sort of thing. He is so gifted, and truly cares for you and your animal. Most recently, my other rescue dog had an acute injury in his back causing hind leg ataxia. We saw Dr Lochhead in the clinic, and she was exceptional. Seriously, she is an incredible human being. We truly feel like all her efforts are focused on our pup, getting a proper diagnosis, and the right treatment plan. I cannot express my gratitude to Dr Lochhead enough, for the extra time she has put in, and the remarkable compassion she shows. Read Less

Read Less
