Sunrise Animal Hospital was purchased in May of 1987 by Dr. Hendrik DeZeeuw, and the company was incorporated in December of that same year. Dr. Sanjay Ralhan joined the company in 1990 and in 1995 he formed a partnership with Dr. DeZeeuw.
The original location of Sunrise Animal Hospital was at 1 Sunrise Avenue in Mount Pearl, NL. Land was purchased at 222 Park Avenue and after the construction of the new hospital was complete, the new and improved Sunrise Animal Hospital opened for business on December 31 2007.
Today Sunrise Animal Hospital Ltd. has two Hospitals. The Torbay Road Animal Hospital opened in 1997 and is located at 286 Torbay Rd., Coaker's Meadow Plaza in St. John's NL.
The company started with 1 vet and 4 support staff. As of October, 2013, the company has 64 employees, including 10 full time vets, 1 part-time vet, 4 registered vet techs and 49 support staff.

Our dog Duffy is now 7 years old and we have been taking her to Sunrise since we got her as a newborn pup from the SPCA. The folks at Sunrise have been treating her like they owned her since her first visit. We get friendly reminders about vaccinations being due, and the annual exams that we think Duffy deserves. The vets and technicians are kind but also respect my wallet. They always provide a balanced view of supplements and drugs along with the total cost so that we can make appropriate choices for our dog. This week at the appointment the staff wanted to know how she was, any changes in behaviour, any changes in her environment and suggested an economical alternative to simply adding another drup when we discussed where Duffy now plays. Great service, great staff and competency from the time you walk in!

Good vet, seemed to genuinely care about my dogs health, I wish I could obtain the required flea and tick and worm meds without the $80 annual exam fee, they are very slow to check in and get you out of there in the evening, I will consider a day apt next year as it is huge stress for me and my dog to be hanging around for an hour + just for annual regular pills

We have been clients of Sunrise for about 10 years. When we first moved home from Ontario, we initially visited the clinic we had used before we moved. It was a nightmare. We went to Sunrise for another opinion, and were impressed with the knowledge, compassion and quality of care. Throughout the years we have unfortunately dealt with everything from allergies and orthopedic issues, to renal failure, bloat and cancer. Through everything, we have relied heavily on Dr. D and his amazing staff for support and expert care and we have never once been disappointed. They are simply the best.

if I could give this clinic a -10 stars I would! I had a close family member bring her cat in last week because she had concerns the cat was suffering anxiety. Your vet proceeded to tell her that “you seem pretty high strung yourself, he’s probably picking up vibes of you”. First off, if you’re taking your cat to the vet for anxiety you clearly DEEPLY love them as if they are your child. This family member happens to struggle with mental health and she now believes her cat has depression/anxiety because of her. This is completely unacceptable!!! Your vet clearly needs to be educated on mental health, sympathy and compassion. I myself have 2 cats that are patients at this clinic and I refuse to bring them back! I will not support a company that is this ignorant towards mental heath. It’s 2018 sunrise, get it together.

After previous consultation with Dr. Natasha Noseworthy we made the agonizing decision to euthanize our precious Polly on October 13th. Upon our arrival to the clinic we were immediately brought inside to a private room & fees taken care of. We got to spend private time & say our good byes. All staff were so compassionate & 1 assistant even shed tears with us. We then went out to our car & drove to the back of the building where staff came out of a private door & placed Poll...y in our car. She was wrapped perfectly in her blanket & all taped with hand drawn hearts & I love yous. They had also made a beautiful clay print of her paw. A week later I received a beautiful card signed by all staff & a touching message wrote by Dr. Noseworthy. I cannot thank enough, all the amazing staff at Sunrise for their very professional & dedicated care of our fur babies over the years!! “HAPPY NEW YEAR” to all the wonderful staff! Yesterday I brought my senior cat to Sunrise. Normally we go to a different vet hospital but they are not open Saturdays and I was worried about the health of my cat. After doing testing it was found that she was in renal failure, and the only humane thing to do was to put her down. The staff were kind, compassionate, and understanding. Even though the hospital was closing for the day they let us have all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. In a difficult situation the staff were wonderful to us and our beloved Crystal. Thank you for understanding that animals aren’t just pets, they’re family.

Only interested in how much they can charge you - not interested in helping your pets. Are not consistent with callbacks and keeping the owner informed of important information regarding essential prescription renewals. Some of the receptionists are friendly and knowledgeable, but others are rude. Vets may be nice but I never met them. Only contact was with front facing staff which has been, over the year I went to this business, hit or miss.

This review is not about the level of expertise of vets, its about the way that they do business here which is dishonest and they have very poor customer service. Lets face it, veterinary clinics are purely business establishments and not the same as human healthcare establishments. At this clinic they do not explain the charges to you before hand for you to make a decision, and they try to get as much money out of you by taking advantage of the fact that you are likely there because your pet is not well and you are distraught. And they have so many policies and various REPETITIVE fees to address their policies, which you will only find out about after they charged you! And when you speak up and tell them that charges were not explained to me, they basically imply that you are lying because it is your word against their staff! Take my word and go to a vet clinic that runs the business side of things more ethically!

Unfortunately, after our beloved Coco's overnight stay, we were compassionately informed, that Coco was not going to get better. We had to say good bye to our beloved family dog.
We felt comfortable that she was well taken care of, and you could see the concern and sadness in the staff, not only for our dog, but for our family too.
We were given ample time to spend with our Coco in a private room, comforted with beverages, tissue and check ins!. All our questions and concerns were a priority, and am forever grateful for the kindness of the Doctors and staff!.

Omg the love and care I got was unbelievable , prince is a older dog , and i was terrified that he was going to live in pain from his teeth for along time , but he got his surgery Tuesday January 2nd , the staff were incredibly helpful and all have warm hearts , i would like to thank Dr.Ryan for bringing new life in Prince , Sunrise Animal Hospital well I call them Animal Angeles thanks again from Prince , Joanne and Rick

After previous consultation with Dr. Natasha Noseworthy we made the agonizing decision to euthanize our precious Polly on October 13th. Upon our arrival to the clinic we were immediately brought inside to a private room & fees taken care of. We got to spend private time & say our good byes. All staff were so compassionate & 1 assistant even shed tears with us. We then went out to our car & drove to the back of the building where staff came out of a private door & placed Poll...y in our car. She was wrapped perfectly in her blanket & all taped with hand drawn hearts & I love yous. They had also made a beautiful clay print of her paw. A week later I received a beautiful card signed by all staff & a touching message wrote by Dr. Noseworthy. I cannot thank enough, all the amazing staff at Sunrise for their very professional & dedicated care of our fur babies over the years!! “HAPPY NEW YEAR” to all the wonderful staff! Yesterday I brought my senior cat to Sunrise. Normally we go to a different vet hospital but they are not open Saturdays and I was worried about the health of my cat. After doing testing it was found that she was in renal failure, and the only humane thing to do was to put her down. The staff were kind, compassionate, and understanding. Even though the hospital was closing for the day they let us have all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. In a difficult situation the staff were wonderful to us and our beloved Crystal. Thank you for understanding that animals aren’t just pets, they’re family.

Only interested in how much they can charge you - not interested in helping your pets. Are not consistent with callbacks and keeping the owner informed of important information regarding essential prescription renewals. Some of the receptionists are friendly and knowledgeable, but others are rude. Vets may be nice but I never met them. Only contact was with front facing staff which has been, over the year I went to this business, hit or miss.

If your animal is ever in a jam, this is the place to bring them. Very friendly, animal-loving staff. They did a great job with my cat. They're Aftercare was fantastic

I have always been treated with professionalism and respect by staff at Sunrise. My dog passed away in September...I could not have asked for better care by Dr. Ryan and Andrea during the year leading up to her death and during the euthanasia. Dr. Ryan and Andrea are extremely caring and compassionate...I wouldn't bring my pet anywhere else.

This review is not about the level of expertise of vets, its about the way that they do business here which is dishonest and they have very poor customer service. Lets face it, veterinary clinics are purely business establishments and not the same as human healthcare establishments. At this clinic they do not explain the charges to you before hand for you to make a decision, and they try to get as much money out of you by taking advantage of the fact that you are likely there because your pet is not well and you are distraught. And they have so many policies and various REPETITIVE fees to address their policies, which you will only find out about after they charged you! And when you speak up and tell them that charges were not explained to me, they basically imply that you are lying because it is your word against their staff! Take my word and go to a vet clinic that runs the business side of things more ethically!

Unfortunately, after our beloved Coco's overnight stay, we were compassionately informed, that Coco was not going to get better. We had to say good bye to our beloved family dog.
We felt comfortable that she was well taken care of, and you could see the concern and sadness in the staff, not only for our dog, but for our family too.
We were given ample time to spend with our Coco in a private room, comforted with beverages, tissue and check ins!. All our questions and concerns were a priority, and am forever grateful for the kindness of the Doctors and staff!.
