Be very careful bringing your pet to this hospital. Yes, the workers are friendly but the level of care is terrible. Our 12 year old small pooch had some teeth extracted at another vet clinic outside the city. We brought her here two weeks later for a check up on her gums. Long story short… over a 4 week period it took 4 separate visits and $600 to have one examination of her gums. The first visit (I wasn’t permitted inside) they didn’t even check her gums but I was charged $177 for the visit. I know this because the vet told me she wasn’t aware of the issue with her surgery ( the person who took her from me didn’t inform the vet) and didn’t even look in her mouth. Three more visits later, we have to now take her back to the original vet outside of town. And my pooch’s gums are all infected. Not a happy customer. As far as I’m concerned this place is just a money grab. They certainly didn’t take care of my pet, but they were quick to take the handful of money. Read Less

My son recently took his cat to this animal hospital or should I say "give me your cash hospital". His cat was losing it's fur. I went on line and narrowed it down to the cat having some type of virus or bug. My son took his cat in to the cash hospital and left the cat. We returned about an hour later to pick up the cat, got the cat back and a bill for $558.35. They asked my son if he wanted them to do blood work on the cat and he agreed. My son asked how much it would cost and they said $300. Figuring that the cat was going to be fine for $300 was okay to my son, he was paying for it. I figured the cat had a bug and if I could figure it out I'm sure the vet with any amount of experience would have known what was wrong with the cat and all this blood work and blood analysis was not warranted. Then they charged my son $48.40 for 2 pills which I could buy for less than $10 each somewhere else. This place is a money grab and I will be making a complaint to BBB, Consumer Affairs and making a complaint to the NL Government to better regulate these type of businesses. Read Less

I’m disappointed to say that my experience at Paradise Animal Hospital (PAH) was extremely unprofessional. About a week after I brought my puppy to PAH for her first needle, she started vomiting. The bill for her treatment came to about $3700, and I was told that it may have been a stomach bug or possibly worms. Receiving an unexpected bill that size was daunting to say the least. When I asked for an itemized list of what was required I found flaws in the billing. For example, I was charged $200 in medication instead of the $19 that was actually needed. After speaking with my friends who also take their dogs to PAH about my bill, they asked if the clinic offered me the free month of pet insurance that they offer every customer of their clinic. They had not. When I called to ask why I wasn’t offered pet insurance, I was told that it was a very unfortunate situation, and that Covid had made it hard to offer all customers the same standard of care. They told me the best they could do for me was to offer an apology. Pet insurance would have covered a substantial portion of my fees, and I found it hard to accept that Covid was interfering since they had time to shoot and post TikTok/Instagram videos of my dog (which they’ve since removed from their pages), but not offer the standard care that all other customers receive. After several emails back and forth, PAH offered to refund $1000 of my $3700 bill. After this, I stuck with PAH because I felt that my puppy received quality care from the vets who delivered her treatment during her emergency visit despite the poor communication and huge expenses. Changing clinics would be challenging given the backlog of patients caused by the pandemic at that time. However, I ran into more issues when I booked my puppy’s appointment for a spay. When I first called, she was scheduled right away for her surgery. It was only after speaking to my friends who have puppies from the same litter and also go to PAH, that I learned they were all given appointments for blood work prior to their surgery and given information on fasting. After hearing this I called the clinic to ask about a bloodwork appointment and they insisted she didn’t need an appointment. This didn’t make sense to me given that the other puppies in her litter had also seen the vet a couple months earlier. I called back again. After three calls they realized they had indeed made a mistake and that my puppy did in fact need blood work prior to her operation. Had I not repeatedly inquired, I’m not sure if they would have gone ahead with the surgery or not. I have never written a review for a business before let alone a negative one, however after this experience I felt it was important to share what I went through. The fact that bolstering their social media presence was more of a priority than my dog's health is beyond concerning. To have it shrugged off, excused, and given a half hearted apology was insulting. A customer should not have to rely on friends and internet research to learn what the proper medical procedures are for their pet. Read Less

I had the misfortunate of visiting this clinic last week when we were visiting St. John's. My dog awoke with a swollen face so I called for an appointment at 9am. I was told there were no appointments available but that they accepted walk-ins so we got ready and headed in. Upon arriving at 10:21 am I was told that the walk in clinic was only between 8-10am and that I would be charged an additional $89 emergency fee, even though the clinic was empty. I had never heard of an emergency fee during working hours before and my understanding is that the Vet we saw was only seeing walk ins that day... Regardless I agreed to the fee as I wanted my dog treated, but then the Vet mis-diagnosed my dog's condition as well. When we returned to the west coast I took her to my normal Vet as her condition had not improved. They had to lance an abyss and remove the infected skin as the infection had worsened. My visit to the Paradise clinic cost me $285 with medication (which was useless). My visit to my regular Vet, including treatment and medication...$130. I will never return to the Paradise clinic and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone...it's a HUGE rip off!! Read Less

I am surprised this is only the third awful review. We brought our puppy in last week after my girlfriend accidentally cut his nail too short during trimming. While they were cauterizing the wound he peed on the table and the vet recommended we collect a sample since it was cloudy and smelled a little off. We did, and $65 later we got a call from the vet stating that the results were "questionable". They refused to give results by phone, and stated that the only way to get the results of the test that I had already paid for was to schedule a follow up examination (surprise surprise, extra cost). This is where things started to sound suspicious, and when my girlfriend questioned the receptionist she tried to use guilt to get us to schedule a follow up appointment, implied that we did not care about our dog, and got angry with her. After consulting with other vets, I confirmed that I should receive results over the phone, and called back. After a few hours of waiting for a call back after speaking with a receptionist, the vet returned our call and confirmed my suspicions. She stated that they had found "bacteria" in his urine, and couldn't confirm whether it was good or bad bacteria; thus, the need for a follow up consultation. I don't know what kind of test I paid for, but it certainly wasn't worth doing. There is bacteria everywhere, both good and bad, and a test that can only confirm the presence of something and not figure out what it is, is absolutely useless. We will not be scheduling a follow up with this clinic, or the "recommended" bladder puncture and urine culture, and we will certainly be cancelling all of our appointments for boosters and taking our puppy elsewhere. We do not appreciate being treated like idiots, and being extorted using fear and guilt to have procedures and exams done that are clearly unnecessary. I hope this does not happen to anyone else, I got out easy with a small bill, I'm sure these unprofessional vets and con artists will get their con to work on some people and probably cost someone a lot of money but it will not be us and I hope it will not be you after reading this.Read Less

I had my two Golden's there. All I can say is the ladies out front are the most incompetent. Have lost my electronic files, prescribed wrong dosage of flea medication based on old weights which then proved ineffective, misquoted prices, and most recently vaccined my dog twice in one year when it wasn't outdated telling me it was expired only to find old paperwork proving it was not. I'm not hard to please but the gross incompetence going on is beyond words. I took my oldest boy there as a general health check up in July. I asked the vet if shots were up to date she assured they were, so it was a big surprise when I found out from my daycare a month later that had all expired. When I went to the vet to get them I was charged another $80 examine fee to ensure he was in good health even though I had just been there an paid for a check up. Unbelievable place. I will be taking my pooches somewhere else! There are many great reviews, and a couple of the things that happened to me I was willing to look past but my final straw was when I was told my youngest would not be prescribed her usual flea/worm medication until she had a check up because they had her weighing 25lbs, when the last time I was in there with her she was nearly 60lbs. I've moved on, have had far too many arguments.Read Less

We have been taking our fur baby to this clinic since she was a pup, she is now almost 7! Nothing but amazing service and each staff was so nice to her. Recently we had to take her for a check up due to a fall, and they were amazing with her and us! I also loved that we didn't feel pressured in to any kind of testing, it was up to us to get done what was done and she totally put our minds at ease! Thank you so much to the doctors and staff! Last week my family and I said good bye to our beautiful fur baby Lulu. It was heartbreaking to see our little pup so sick and know we could do nothing to help her. We brought her to the clinic to have her spend her last moments with dignity and surrounded by our family. The staff at the clinic was exceptionally compassionate and even though I was devastated to be there to put my dog at peace, I was touched by the thoughtful, empathic staff who eased the pain of our visit. Thank you so much. I felt as if you all made Lulu's passing more bearable for me, my husband and my boys. The Robinsons Read Less
