My cat has congestive heart failure and requires daily medication to keep his condition under control. I've been a loyal client of the GSAH for years and would get all of my cat's medication from them despite the prohibitive cost of the drugs. Recently my financial situation changed and I was no longer able to afford the prices I was paying. I went to Dr. Pisz hoping that he might be able to assist us by providing me with a prescription that I could use to get the medicine elsewhere at a price I was able to afford. He refused to help, arguing that if he made an exception for one person, everyone would expect him to do this for them and his business would go under. I don't know if he thought I'd plaster the town with flyers proclaiming you can get free drugs from him or what, but I would never do anything to hurt the business of someone who would go the extra mile to help a person in need. Things being as they are, however, you can be damn sure I will tell every single person I meet that this man would let a seriously ill animal suffer and die rather than do anything that might hurt his bottom line. I'm not sure what effect that'll have on his business, but I doubt it will be positive. Read Less

Although my dog does not like Dr. Pisz, I have found that his work is very good. My dog has had thousands of dollars worth of surgeries and all have been completed successfully. Reviews are honestly not the best way to determine a businesses service quality, one size doesn't fit all; especially when it comes to a vet. Read Less

Dr. Tom and the staff always take the greatest of care of our furbabies. Over the years we've had two canine and two feline babies who required various medical care - the vet team are always available (even once counselling us regarding our old (and ailing diabetic) girl Tequila while we were in Nova Scotia - they made sure we knew all of our options and miraculously Tequila not only survived the seizures she was having - but enjoyed several more years with us! Had we listened to the first vet we counselled with - she would have been laid to rest way too soon. Our Yorkie boy (Little Bear) has had two luxacting pattella surgeries performed by Dr. Pisz. He now romps and runs with the "big dogs" haha :) - and although he missed his humans terribly while kenneled at the vet for recovery - he enjoyed being taken care of by the staff. Kevin at the pet boutique is also a charm to deal with - living outside of Yellowknife in a small community means we have to rely on items being sent to us from the bigger city centres. Kevin always provides exemplary service (and you can tell he enjoys his job - with his own furry group of critters that go to work with him each day) - he's been known to send a few "extra" treats when we order our food. I love being able to stop in person when I'm in YK just to see who is at work with him for the day.Read Less

Dr. Tuma and the vet techs have been wonderful with our dog. We adopted a dog from Texas who is heartworm positive, he sees Dr. Tuma about every 2/3 months and she always takes her time with him, takes the time to explain everything that is happening now, and may happen in the future. We are so grateful for the attention they have given Punk, and the fact that I do not worry when he has to stay at the clinic. Thank you for everything you do! Read Less

Dr. Tom Pisz has been treating my animals for 29 yrs. He has always been there for me in an emergency, even in the middle of the night. He is on call 24/7 and can deal with any type of animal medical emergency. Although the clinic is incredibly busy one needs to remember that up until recently he has been only full time veterinary practice operating in the NWT. Dr. Pisz has always provided a safe shelter and adoption center for unwanted northern animals. I don't know how many times he has taken in rescues that I've picked up and provided care for them out of his pocket until they can find god homes. Unlike some veterinarians that I have death with, Dr. Pisz will never refuse treatment of any animal in need. Keep up the good work folks! Read Less

WORST VET CLINIC EVER!!! I've had nothing but problems here. There is two veterinarians here, a man and a woman, the man is rude and arrogant and rough with the animals. I went in there to have my 12 year old German Shepard euthanize and it took them over an hour to find the vein, after poking 3 of her legs and actually having to put her to sleep to calm her down before she could be euthanized. Then on another account I took my cat in to get shaved and set up an appointment, they called me the morning of and said they couldn't take him in as there was an emergency. So i set up another appointment a week later and had to take the time off to drop him off which I did only to return around 5 to pick him up and he wasn't shaved because they said they didn't have time. My 13 year old cat had to sit in a kennel all day in their noisy smelly office to not even get shaved! I was very upset however set up yet another appointment because it was the only place in town. However a few days before my appointment I called and canceled because I didn't have the $200. On the day of my appointment they had the nerve to call me and tell me I'd be charged $50 for canceling my appointment. I never went back. Their prices are so high for such low quality of work I'd take my pets to Edmonton before going back there, the money you save by not going there you could get to Edmonton and back on a plane anyway.
