When your furry friend has an owie and your regular vet isn't available, it's good to know that in the panic to get your pet taken care of, you don't have to worry about finding a place to go for good care. Metro Animal is an after-hours all-inclusive clinic, open nights, weekends, and during holidays. They're set up for surgery and recovery, but can see you for smaller issues like gas or little scrapes.2013 started with our first pet emergency. Being 7 PM on New Year's day, we knew we didn't even need to bother calling our vet to see if they were open. While it turns out the visit wasn't a necessary one (just pinched blood vessels), we didn't want to wait when our dog started swelling up and couldn't stand properly after he ate his dinner, so we came straight here. We were greeted with calm and empathetic staff that placed us in our own little room rather than wait in the expansive lobby. The duty vet came in, and she was quite nice and gentle when examining our dog, who had improved during our wait. She found the problem, and said that it would likely clear up on its own, but also gave us the option to run some tests if we were really concerned. Thankfully, Murphy left happy and healthy without needing further medical attention. The downside with this convenience is that it can be more expensive than seeing your regular vet. I think just for walking in, you're charged $100 before needing any bloodwork, medication, or the awful event of surgery. I guess that's what pet insurance is for. Also keep in mind that while your pet may need to stay overnight, you'll have to make arrangements to pick them up between 7 and 7:30 AM, as they close for the day and do not typically keep animals during the day, save for exceptional circumstances.
