My fiance and I had been so excited to take our new puppy to Vetwise Animal Hospital, the outdoor animal decor is wonderful and my first over-the-phone conversation with staff was great. Also, the location was just perfect for us and the hours of operation quite convenient. Unfortunately, after a few visits, we've become very uncomfortable using Vetwise. Our first visit was great! We met with a stand-in vet, as Dr. Markus was away on vacation, and she was wonderful. However, on our second visit, which was with Dr. Markus, we felt a bit uncomfortable. Any information that Dr. Markus relayed to us about our puppy led to the promotion of one of their products. Though I have no doubt Dr. Markus cares for his animal patients and is a skilled vet, and in fact he is a very nice person, the whole interaction felt like a sales pitch. When we went to pay for our visit, we were confronted by yet another uncomfortable situation. The secretary, the vet's wife, began bickering with her husband about how she needed to fill out our paperwork. She stated that she was too tired to think, since she had been up since 7am. Now, at the time, though we felt a bit awkward, we laughed it off, because let's face it, this must happen all the time with couples who work together. However, in the overall picture, it now just adds to my discomfort. Our third visit to Vetwise (our puppy's neutering), was even worse than the previous visit. We had been signed up for pre-operation blood screening, which we had not agreed to. In fact, during our last visit we had been given information on the neutering procedure and blood screening test and told to talk it over and come to a decision for our next visit. The blood screening test is in fact optional, as it stated in the brochures, unless your dog is fiver years or older. Therefore, my fiance and I had discussed it and decided to not go with the blood screening. So, I told the vet assistant that we weren't going with the blood work. She went to go double check that it wasn't mandatory for dogs, and the secretary (vet's wife from last visit) came in to ask why we weren't getting the blood work done. I simply told her we had discussed it and decided not to go with it. Well, she went on as if the procedure was mandatory, even though we read the contrary in the very brochure she gave us (and her husband later confirmed it was optional). And at one point she recounted how one customer didn't get the blood work done before their dog's neutering and the dog almost bleed to death. Her staff had been in the operation room for six hours trying to stop the bleeding. She then said, "you don't want to do that to our staff, or your dog." Which is completely unfair and unprofessional - their staff is not my responsibility and if it is such a concern, the procedure should be mandatory for all dogs. At that point, I informed the secretary that I didn't appreciate being guilted into getting the procedure done, and in fact, during our last visit, we had felt pressured into buying other products. This really upset her and she continued to lecture me, as if she was scolding a misbehaving child. She even asked, "would you go for surgery without getting your blood work done?" At this point, I couldn't believe that I was in such a situation, as, I believe, you should feel comfortable and supported at your vet's. After our puppy's stitches are removed, we will not be returning to Vetwise. I hope other customers have much better experiences. Read Less
