As an owner of a very skittish cat around new people and places it's always a concern to find a place I know she will be in good hands. Upon a referral from a friend to Carnegy Animal Hospital I took a leap of faith when she wasn't feeling at all herself and I couldn't be more pleased with the experience. Luna was extremely at ease with Dr. Lindsay and didn't stir up a fuss with any injections or xrays and Dr. Lindsay was very thorough in explaining my treatment choices around my budget concerns while still getting the best care for girl. My first time going to Carnegy and I will definitely return. Went in with my dog and they had multiple appointments for the same day. When we were shown to a room at the appointment time we waited about 5 minutes for the doctor he was very professional and able to reassure me on some of the worries I had with my dog. Read Less

When they say 'cat friendly' they mean it! I can not think of bringing my blossom to another place. We've been coming hear because we adopted our cat from CAPS and it included a free spray so we had our needles and everything done here prior to her surgery so we could make sure the doctor was someone we liked and we could trust.I would not go anywhere else moving forward. The staff are so nice and they don't mind when I let blossom out of her carrier because she's literally terrified.They literally treat you and your fur baby like family! I can not thank them enough for putting my mind at peace, it's definitely a great feeling to know you're getting what you pay for and with even better service wth people who have a passion for animals. My boyfriend and I recently took home two kittens. The first Vet we've ever gone to was this hospital besides the ones in the Annapolis Valley. We were booked in with Dr. Hodgson. He is very quiet and gentle with my kittens, very knowledgeable and willing to listen and answer questions for as long as I needed him. So patient and personable! I've been in twice to see him and was going to see him a third time for a check in. He called a the other day saying that if the kitties are doing well and nothing has changed there's no need to come in. I very much appreciate that as we are a little strapped for money at this time! Really means a lot to me that he did that instead of having their third set of needles that aren't necessary and costing me a lot of money. What they did to my bird in this awful clinic is nothing but a crime. I took my budgie there for the first time, and Doctor Carnegy, who, by the way, is extremely unfriendly, told me he would be okay and gave him some medication with a syringe. The appointment lasted about 10 minutes. I wanted to ask more questions, but he was in a hurry. While I was paying for the appointment, my budgie choked to death. I showed the receptionist his dead body and they still charged me. They didn't even apologize! This veterinarian simply murdered my bird and charged me over a hundred dollars for it. I recently took my dog in to be put down because he wasn't doing well at 15 years old. We brought him in and had no idea what was going to happen and what the procedure was like. The doctor never explained what was going to happen, and they held my dog forcefully and as they were putting the needle in, my dog started crying and freaking out and they just injected him.... He died scared and hurt. It made me feel very upset that he wasn't calm when he passed away. I recommend that you bring your pet somewhere else. Read Less

The worst experience I have ever had at a vet. Took my cat initially to be looked at as she was licking off her fur by her tail. Was told it was due to an allergy and she was given a steroid shot. Shortly after she appeared to be stuffed up and was having difficulty breathing. After a couple of days she was really struggling to breathe so we took her back to the vet and they gave her a shot of something else to clear her nose. No explanation for what caused this. As we couldn't determine what my cat was allergic to, we had to keep bringing her in for shots every few months. This became fairly routine where I would call, say that she was due for a shot and I would be provided with an appointment date. For her last appointment, my husband took her in and came home with a bill over 3 times what I normally pay. When I called to inquire, I was told that because it had been 8 months since my cat had been examined by a vet, "policy" was that she had to have a regular check up. As I was not advised of this when I made the appointment, I did not feel that I should have been responsible for the entire bill ( I would have been happy to pay half). Tried several times to speak with the office manager Mary Claire who refused to return my calls and was always "in a meeting" when I would try to speak to her in person. Finally filed a complaint with the BBB and only after that did I get a refund. Horrible service, will never set foot in this office again. Read Less

I like this location the most. Every time I go they make excellent recommends. I never feel like they are tying to rip me off or make a sale. Today we purchased flea and tick medication. Staff made a typo and quoted me the price of a male neuter instead of a female spay. Got the surgery done and price was significantly higher. Admitted their mistake when we sent them the original quote and said oops sorry but do you think they care that what we budgeted for was nowhere near what they charged? The care these guys give to their furry patients is amazing. The vet we saw recently with one of the cats was great.  She was pleasant and easy to talk to and didn't make you feel like an idiot for asking silly questions. The clinic is clean but the waiting area is small. You feel like you're sitting on top of others waiting. Not much seating and not much space to separate anxious/nervous pets from others. While the care is fantastic and the service is great I find them to be expensive.  $120 for a simple visit seems a bit steep. We willingly paid as they took such great care of our guy but I'm not sure I'd use this clinic as our regular vet. Read Less

I really enjoy taking my dog here. Dr Bail has always always always given our dog Zoey the best care. I can not even express how good she is with both people and animals.  She is very fair. She is not the type of vet to try to sell you expensive treatments, food, or services. You do not walk out of there gasping for air over the bill. Read Less

I have a love-hate relationship with this vet office.  We've been bringing our cats here for years and have no plans of switching; our (their) vet is compassionate, patient, professional and keeps us informed.  If she switched practices we would follow her, she's that awesome.Dr. Carnegy himself ... I have the utmost respect for him as a vet, but find him to be not a great listener and always in a rush (probably because he is in such high demand).  We took one of our cats to him a few times but found he did not take enough time to examine or propose tests, and gave him a shot without telling us what the heck it was - I had to stop him and ask him.  Despite this, I do think highly of him.The many staff at the front desk are mostly awesome in my experience; we are there quite often as we have two cats on medication and they are very good about squeezing us in to see our vet without an appointment when necessary.  We have always found them friendly and professional, and if it's not busy some will chat with us.  The office itself?  Is waaaaay too small for the high volume of clients.  It is regularly packed with people and pets, and having your kitty subjected to screaming kids and barking dogs when they are already high strung is ... not fun.  I know they can't expand in their current location, so I just hope someday they will move (not too far though!) to a larger office with a more spacious waiting room.Their pricing is competitive and we've received many a break on appointment charges.  Overall this should be a 3.5 star rating. Tara and I visited the Carnegy hospital this morning with our cat Chester. He's lived a long cat life in his 20 years on earth and we are lucky he's in all around excellent health, but this week he happened to get an ingrown claw which made it's way into his paw pad. Not nice! Tara and I didn't have a regular vet locally so we checked out the reviews locally and chose Carnegy based on the feedback from our fellow Yelpers. We were not disappointed. The front desk staff were friendly and very accommodating when I called to make the appointment for him. And we found the same friendly reception when we arrived in person. They had an appointment time early in the day that worked for us, we took Chester in 10 minutes before his appointment, filled in some brief paperwork and we were seen by Dr. Harrison promptly at 9am. She asked about Chester's problem and we explained the ingrown claw. She checked his ears, his teeth and his heart as well and found him in good health otherwise. She took him to another area to cut all of his claws back. She returned shortly after with a much happier Chester. We were done and paid by 9:30am and the bill was less than we were anticipating. A positive experience all in all and if we happen to need to return for veterinary care for Chester we will definitely bring him back. Read Less

The staff at Carnegy Animal Hospital are amazing! I've been taking our pugs here since we got them, 4 years ago, and we consistently receive the highest level of care from everyone - front desk staff, vets and groomers.Last year one of our dogs had to have unexpected surgery and all the staff at Carnegy were helpful, accommodating and caring throughout the entire ordeal. They even put up with my frequent calls to the clinic to "check up on" our dog. I cannot think of a more caring, thoughtful and helpful clinic in the city. We LOVE Carnegy! Read Less

A fantastic animal hospital! My friend has been taking her dog there for more than 10 years and each time, she is very pleased.She takes one of her dogs there to get groomed by a lady named Michelle. Michelle is excellent with her fragile, little shitzu who has nearly seen the end of her days. She is reasonably priced and does a great job. She does find it hard to get an appointment with Michelle unless you've already booked it months in advance. She usually has to been 4 haircuts a year, 3 months apart. She normally makes all of her years worth of appointments in January. She also takes her cat and her other dog to Dr. Carnegy for their normal yearly check ups. They are reasonably priced and Dr. Carnegy is gentile and very educated. His prices are very competitive with other vets. Dr. Carnegy truly seems to love animals. He really is a great veterinarian.
