Living in Westwood Hills, we thought it was a no-brainer to go with Westwood Hills Vet upon getting our new puppy. Fast forward four months later - for the third time we've been charged substantially more than the quoted amount for standard items. We now know this choice was a mistake. If a higher price was given upfront, we would gladly pay it, but the lack of transparency makes it a bit harder to swallow. When the receptionist saw my husband and I looking confused in regards to the bill, she asked if I had a question about it (after it was paid). I informed her that once again, the amount was much higher than was quoted. We were told that two extra teeth were pulled, and that was the reason for the charges. If we were contacted, we would have informed them that our puppy's litter were all a bit slower losing their teeth, and each of them still has teeth falling out. The two additional teeth were not a concern of ours. I was told the vet tech would explain the charges. From there we were met with defensiveness and hostility. The vet tech did say that we were overcharged, but tried to justify it with the fact that other vets charge more for medications - and that other places she had worked charged more for these things. She consistently spoke to me in a condescending manner, berated me, and acted as though she wouldn't give my dog to me as if I were refusing to pay the bill (which again, had already been paid). My husband and I were very uncomfortable being stuck in a room with this technician, and I lost my patience when we were not being able to leave with our dog. She then sent Dr. Hare into the room, who had the audacity to tell me that I owed his technician an apology. I cannot ever imagine saying that to one of my clients if one of my staff had made them feel like a low life who was trying to rip off the business. I see a lot of great reviews, however, it seems that my experience was much more in line with the negative, hostile environment others have experienced. To be fair, it could have been just one technician. However, the veterinarian's quick response to accuse me of treating his technician badly after my husband and I were made to feel very uncomfortable by her was the last straw for us. The immediate defensiveness over the bill with bizarre justifications certainly made things seem very suspicious, and our family will not be back. Read Less
