Disgusting, they will exploit you for every dollar they can get over a dying pet.
Our cat suddenly fell very ill, not eating and not drinking and we knew she was on her way out, we tried to bring her to our regular vet however he wasn't taking emergency cases and wouldn't see her until next week even for euthanasia and were referred to the emergency vets. We didn't (even though we should have) want to goto the emergency vets as they didn't open until 7pm and we though a vet would be more personable (which they weren't) then an emergency clinic.
We lost her sister late last year to heart failure, were told it was likely genetic the other was going strong and we kept it as reference, when we arrived we explained everything to the vet, the heart failure of the sister, the similar symptoms, the extreme lethargy and lack of eating and drinking over the last couple of days and how uncomfortable she was looking and acting and were ready to put her to sleep to ease her pain only to be told by the vet "She's not dying, she's sick yes but she's running around and looking good, she's not dying she just needs fluids and we can treat her" (Way to get our hopes up) and proceeded to provide a quote for all sorts of tests, on her advice that she wasn't as bad as she appeared to us (She has been known to be a bit of a drama queen for attention) we opted to start with the Sub-Q and do a blood work to start. We were told to go and they would call us in about 30 minutes with the results to figure out where to go from there.
30 minutes later we get a call..... She's not doing good, it's not looking good at all... he liver is failing, she has kidney problems and probably has her heart affected as well... they couldn't treat here there and if we wanted to treat her it would have to be a surgical facility with 24/7 monitoring but it doesn't look good and the prognosis is bad and ultimately we needed to put her to sleep.
In the end I can only there are two possibilities....
What sort of Vet doesn't recognize a dying animal and heartlessly gives the family (including our young son) hope to 30 minutes later basically state he entire body is failing.... Doesn't seem competent to me and I wouldn't trust any animal to their care.
Or they knew full well how dire the situation was and wanted to get every dollar they could out of it since we weren't regular clients (even though my parents were in the past, before it appears the vet and staff changed)
Either way it's disgusting and not only we were left with a large bill for the tests and treatment that were completely unnecessary but now have to deal with not only the trauma of losing our dear cat, but at least we had accepted what we thought was inevitable before going and were prepared only to be given false hope and make her passing even more "Sudden and unexpected" Read Less
