They overdosed a medication (the label said to give it every 12 hours instead of every 24 hours so it was a double dose, confirmed by Cavan Hills Emergency Vet because Bowmanville was closed when I realized the mistake) and my rat almost died. Less than 2 weeks earlier, they underdosed another medication (prescribed 10mg/ml instead of 100 mg/ml). A few months prior, they mixed up the expiration dates on another medication by reversing the months and years. They also returned a different pet's ashes to me divided into 3 separate urns (an error that made a the loss of my pet that much worse). Rather than apologizing and taking responsibility for their many and sometimes life-threatening errors, they banned me when I confronted them about it, with false accusations to try and shift the blame (they said I was rude; I was upset, of course, but remained calm and polite and didn't raise my voice (and I'm in the process of getting transcripts from my phone provider for legal proof); Sandra McBride the operations manager, on the other hand, was awful to deal with (she showed no compassion whatsoever and was EXTREMELY rude, talking over me and not showing even the tiniest bit of concern that my pets were overdosed). They're so unprofessional that I don't understand how they're still allowed to operate. Their vets can't make a diagnosis (I literally consulted with ALL of them, one by one, but NEITHER had any clue (spoiler: it was an upper respiratory infection that just needed proper dosages of antibiotics): Brigette Rudolf, Helen Koseck, Stephanie Spencer, and Josh Tollman) but they will take (too much of) your money anyway, only to say that they have no idea. Their technicians can't do basic math and threaten the lives of the animals in their care with frequent dosage errors. They are a danger to animals. They almost killed my pet rats twice in only two short weeks. They have no business offering care to exotic animals (which they advertise on their website) and I strongly recommend going elsewhere. Literally, anywhere. Worst vet experience I've had and I shudder to think of these people being trusted with the actual lives of animals. Read Less

** see edit at the bottom after 2nd visit** Took my bunny here for the first time for a suspected ear infection as I could not take him to our regular vet. Started out pretty good as the staff indeed is very kind and eager to help...however...once it came to hold my bunny they were struggling with him in a way that a vet clinic should not. He almost fell off the table. So after that he was super stressed and so was i. They had to keep him in his carrier to do the exam. And he isn't a struggler as at our vet this has never been an issue. The diagnosis was infection in the left ear...i was told the right ear was clear (Took a swab and no infection was found or so they said) He got drops and we left. I called the next Day with some questions . Again no complaint on that as they called back right away. I asked if the spreading of the infection to the other ear should be a concern and I was told no. I had the nagging feeling that this was not handled well so I took time off work (which I should have done in the first place) and took my bun to our vet. Turns out his left ear is clear and his right is super infected with puss and stuff. Not sure if they mixed up the ears or just didn't look well enough in the right ear. Don't think the infection in the right ear can start up and get so bad in less than a week. So now he has drops for both ears. I paid 100 less at my old vet than here for essentially the same thing but basically to correct their mistake. I'm mad just thinking about how bad it would have been if the right ear were to have gotten worse. The staff and clinic are both very nice but I just think our situation was mishandled which is why I still give the place 3 stars and not less. **visit 2 edit ** as mentioned above I sort of knew that our sort of negative experience was a fluke. Bunny needed emergency care and the clinic was quick to see us without an appointment first thing in the morning and took our concerns seriously even though the emergency vet clinics of the area wouldn't see him and told us to wait for a vet clinic to open. I have said it beige too that the staff us super friendly and bunny was handled really well this time and while I was scared he was actually doing really well and his exam went down without a hitch. So I give credit where it is due the rating has been changed to a deserved 5 star. And while we will keep with our regular vet for regular check ups this clinic will be our go to for anything that needs a quick response. :) Read Less

Recently had our much loved 8 lb ,14 yr old Pomeranium put to sleep & it took 1 sedative and 3 euthanasia shots, the last one directly into her heart, before she finally died.Poor little girl whined for more than an hour in my husbands arms before she passed. We know this isn't normal as we've had 2 other large dogs put to sleep and it was almost instant. When we asked the next day the vet said that they checked her leg after she passed and feel that the vet tech "Blew her vein" when she put the IV & sedation in.When the first euthanasia shot didn't work why wouldn't the vet take her into the back and find a vein in the other leg instead of giving multiple injections that weren't working? It would have been much easier on our pet and family. It's a hard decision made out of love when you put a dearly loved pet to sleep. Once made,we felt it was best for our little girl to be out of pain. Not so in the end.My husband said it was horrific & he'll never be able to get it out of his head.

My best boy Frank was sadly taken to Summerlands today. The clinic took him in despite being solidly booked and were both patient and compassionate about the whole affair as it took a few doses of sedatives before the euthanasia. The Vet was very kind and walked me through the entire process, offering footprints and hair clippings afterwards. Thank you all so much for what you do and thank you for caring for despite being a rat. I'm very grateful. Read Less

Brought my five year old cat to the clinic for the first time. Called them in a panic because my cat was having trouble breathing and turning blue. They told me to bring him down asap, got there they rushed him for emergency treatment and saved his life. They knew exactly what to do and all the staff were so knowledgeable. I am so glad I took my cat there instead of the other clinic in Bowmanville who doesn't always have vet in the building or decent staff on board. I truly think my cat is alive because of this clinic. He is my best friend and I would be so lonely without him. Thank you Bowmanville Vet Clinic. Read Less

Took cat to vet for a possible bladder infection I held cat while assistant tried to take temperature in anus and she hurt cat and my own cat bit me. No big deal. However vet decides to call health department on me now how is that for customer service? Also now vet is more concerned about my bite that the well being of the cat? So my 16 year old cat now has to be quarantined for 10 days... While in pain...!!!! Not only that but my decision has been made for me to have cat put down My wonderful cat of 16 yrs. thanks Bad experience expensive and unnecessary treatments Be prepared to spend $300 and not get an accurate diagnosis for your pet. Went in for a skin condition on cat and "vet" tried to sell me food and products for the cats teeth and gums And never did solve skin condition issue or accurately diagnose the problem. Read Less

I am not sure why Bowmanville vet clinic is so pricey. I have called around to different clinics and they all seem to be less in price. Read Less
