Our 6 year old Great Dane is the sweetest and quietest animal around. Last night at about 6 pm he started pacing and crying. At 10:30 I took him to the 24 Hour emergency vet as I was concerned about bloat. They checked for bloat (and not much else) and sent him home since the X-ray was negative. He continued to cry all night. I received an email early this morning from Holland Street Vet asking how Ben was doing (they had received the results from the emerg clinic and contacted me as soon as they opened). I called them and told them he still wasn't well. He was still pacing (not once did he sit or lie down and was now awake and pacing for over 14 hours) and crying. They offered to see him immediately. Dr Michelle Landry walked in, took one look at the dog and asked if there was any way it was his neck and not his stomach. She did a few tests and all pointed to a neck issue. She put in acupuncture needles without delay. He continued to pace and whimper. She gave us some pain meds to take home as well. We got home (about 3 minutes after leaving) and I fed him his meds. He then turned around, walked to his bed, lay down and fell asleep. No more crying. No more pacing. Dr Michelle THANK YOU. The acupuncture was what he needed and now he can relax until the pain meds kick in. This big boy needs sleep. You are amazing. You are honest and knowledgable and you pay attention to the patient and not what the owner has Google diagnosed the animal for you. By far, Dr. Michelle is the sweetest, kindest and most thorough vet I have ever met. She took the time to really examine my fur babe and never once made me feel rushed while explaining things to me. Thanks a lot for not declawing. I'm living in Germany where declawing like in many other countries is illegal anyway. That said I'm having the highest respect for vets taking a stand against this horrific procedure although it's allowed in your country and you could earn a lot of extra money by doing it.
