Brisdale Animal Hospital staff are incompetent, lack empathy, and only wants your money
My dog was recently diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on his butt cheek, and I was told that since it is not attached to any major organs, it could be surgically removed for $790. 1 week and 2 days later, I brought my dog in for bloodwork prior to surgery (cost $230), where my dog had his butt cheek shaved and I was told that the surgery would now cost $3,600, plus medication. After agreeing to this new cost, I brought my dog in for surgery 3 days later. After my dog was sedated and prepped for surgery, I received a call from the surgeon who advised that my dog requires extensive surgery that can only be performed by a Specialty Clinic. The cost would be anywhere from $8,000 to $10,000. After waiting 11 days for a call back from Brisdale, I was informed that my dog can be seen by the Specialty Clinic in 3 weeks, and the cost for the consultation would be anywhere from $150 to $250. I then pointed out that I don't have the money for this extensive surgery, and I requested a refund for the unnecessary bloodwork that was done. I was not made aware that there was a possibility the surgery might not be able to be performed by the surgeon at Brisdale, and that my dog may need to be referred to a Specialty Clinic for this procedure to take place. If I had been properly informed, I would’ve went directly to the Specialty Clinic in the first place. Brisdale said that the bloodwork service was done, as it was necessary for the surgery to take place, and that they cannot refund me for the service they provided. After writing a letter detailing the situation, they quickly called me back and offered a refund for the bloodwork. When I returned to Brisdale, they processed my refund accordingly. I then questioned why nobody asked how my dog was doing. Doesn't Brisdale care about my dog anymore? Since the day I picked up my dog from the surgery (which didn't take place), I didn't hear back from Brisdale for 11 days, and that was regarding the referral to the Specialty Clinic. They then called me back after I sent them a letter regarding the refund for the bloodwork. Then I spoke with Brisdale representatives when I went in to get my refund. I spoke with Brisdale 3 times since picking up my dog from the surgery, (where he was clearly still feeling the effects of being unnecessarily sedated), and it surprised me that nobody at Brisdale followed up to see how he was doing. After pointing out that Brisdale mistakenly advised that my dog was a candidate for surgery at their facility, and that they failed to follow up on the well-being of my dog, to my surprise, I was met with attitude from the representatives, rather than being apologetic for the oversight of the situation. This experience has shown that Brisdale Animal Hospital is clearly incompetent when dealing with situations like this, and that their staff lack empathy when pointing out mistakes they made. It seems to me that since they were referring me to a Specialty Clinic, and made a fair amount of money from this situation, they washed there hands of me and didn't care about my dog anymore.
