I’ve been going to this clinic for 3 years and was initially not very pleased with being over charged for unnecessary procedures and tests but decided to stay for the minimal things that I would need to use them for. They only stopped ripping us off when they found out my husband wasn’t in fact a doctor. One of my dogs ended up needing a referral to a dermatologist for a severe skin issue and that doctor has been managing him mainly for the last year. Tonight my dog needed immediate medication as per the specialist but due to the fact that I am in Burlington and the specialist working with my vet at this clinic is in Guelph had called in the prescription into this office like many other times before for my dogs immediate use. Apparently their policies changed and they would not fill this order and help my very sick dog without an exam (aka money grab). My dog doesn’t need an exam he needs his medication. Medication that he’s been on for 3 years. The medication the lead vet here initially prescribed! My vet isn’t in until next week and they expected me to let my dog suffer until next Wednesday so they could make a buck off an unnecessary appointment. I’ve never been so angry and so sad at the same time. My poor dog is laying beside me crying and bleeding and these people only wanted to care if they got paid for an unnecessary exam on top of my prescribed medications. I will never recommend this office and I will never step foot back there! The fact that my dogs well being is 100% disregarded because I wouldn’t let them scam extra money out of me is absolutely heartbreaking. They are suppose to CARE for animals but they proved tonight they CARE about money more. Don’t go here if you expect proper and ethical care for your fur babies. Since VCA have taken over this veterinarian clinic over-charges unnecessarily and is extremely judgemental towards pet owners. Do not recommend. Much better vet clinics out there. Both my parents and I have taken our pets to other clinics for better service, better care and better value. Read Less

Love the staff at Bay Cities Animal Hospital from the friendly staff at the front to the fantastic Dr. Danika Newmann.  Dr. Newmann truly cares about my dog.  Ginger is super comfortable with her. Dr. Newmann is knowledgeable, caring and pro-active. She's very consultative. I never feel like there's a sales pitch, it's truly what's in the best interest of Ginger. Options and suggestions were given based on the lifestyle of my dog. I really appreciate having a trusted professional to bring my dog to.  Ginger needed her annual shots and she looks forward to the liver treats and a new stuffy when she leaves :)Thank you Dr. Newmann and staff for caring! We have been going there with our two dogs for a few years now, and we will no longer be going back. Recently took our ONE year old dog in because of an inflamed paw, and the doctor on call looked at it for less than 5 seconds and told us it was CANCER. Then she gave us a quote for over $600 to biopsy it. We have had a few big issues there and have overlooked them because of some of the nice doctors, but this visit was over the top. It is VERY clear they use FEAR to scare innocent pet owners into doing unnecessary procedures and vaccines. I am sad to say they are ALL about the money, and we will no longer be going back. The staff are great, very knowledgeable vets. Had to pay $500 just for some shots and blood test, but can't complain it is expensive everywhere. They did follow up and call me to make sure my pet was well after. Read Less

I recently lost one of my cats due to old age a couple of weeks ago, and had to bring my other 2 cats in to get their shots. Upon arriving, I was greeted by a vet tech who said she wanted to take my cats in one at a time in the back to get checked over, and be given their shot. I stated I wanted to be with both while they were being examined, and given their needle. I have always been with my pets when a doctor comes in to greet my cats. The technician then went in to the back where she then came back out and advised this is not their policy. Are you kidding me??? My cats were not having surgery for Pete's sake. I am extremely upset for wasting my time off work, gas, not to mention the stress on my cat's. This will be the last time I bring any of my pet's to Bay Cities Animal Hospital. We have used this clinic for 12 years now. They are outstanding! We are never made to feel like we are taking up too much time when we ask a lot of questions, and medical advise /care instructions are thoroughly explained. Doctors are aware of cost concerns and provide different options at different price points with pros and cons. I always feel well educated when making a decision for my pets care.Read Less

Bay Cities was able to squeeze my dog in over the holidays when all other surrounding vets were closed. I was extremely impressed with the care and compassion they showed for my dog, Chopper. Dr. Golding was very gentle with her and very patient, knowledgeable and understanding with all the questions I asked. Within 24 hours they had our bloodwork results back and forwarded them to my normal veterinarian, and even called me to check in on Chopper. Thank you for the wonderful care you gave her. Read Less

This place is awful. It's painfully obvious that this business is owned by a conglomerate in another province and that there is no one at Bay Cities who truly cares whether the business succeeds. I have been taking my dogs there for only a few months and they have messed up food and medication orders twice so badly that my dog once again has to go without her proper food. They use an antiquated system of jotting down the name of the caller (incorrectly) in a binder and the food being ordered without any indication of size, type, etc. and then call to say it's in but it's either not there because they forgot to place the order or they ordered the wrong food. They also make no recommendations as to which foods are right for my pets, saying only that "there are so many types of food out there". Why exactly am I going to a vet for this advice? They have been making excuses that the previous owners all retired and that they are still in transition after selling to the out-of-province company but it has actually been well over a year since the sale took place. This clinic refused to listen to me when I brought in a kitten with what I suspected was FIP disease. They were condescending and laughed it off when I requested that tests for FIP be done. I had to take the sick kitten to another vet who did the tests needed after I asked and in turn diagnosed the kitten with the FIP disease I knew the kitten had. The kitten passed a week later. We've been taking our dog to Bay Cities for almost six years. They are always professional and professionally dressed. The clinic is clean. The vets are knowledgeable, professional and empathetic. We have had to visit another clinic in Burlington, twice, on an emergency basis; in contrast the staff are slovenly and unprofessional. The clinic is dirty, unorganized and it smells. The vets are oddly cold toward animals. I don't care if they are slightly cheaper. Bay Cities is worth every penny. Read Less

I could not have asked for a more attentive and thorough team. You left no stone unturned and always put the well being of our dog ahead of everything. I so appreciated your efforts and the time and attention you gave to my concerns and her needs. Saying goodbye to a pet is never easy, but today my daughter and I are able to focus on our loss with acceptance and closure. We will always miss our Scruffles but we have peace and serenity. Our pets are now under the care of Dr. Hamilton who is excellent .We also received very compasionate care from Dr. Todd and Lisa when we had to have our little dog euthanized a few weeks ago. this clinic is really expensive. Everytime I go in for blood work for my dog and 2 cats it's always a different price, even when I say I want the same work done as last time. Its like they charge whatever they want because obviously a client isn't going to know exactly what they are charging for. There have been a couple times when I come in for my appointment and am left waiting for a good 20-30 minutes to be seen, and no one gives me any updates about why they are running late or how long it will be. The staff at the front pretty much ignore you until it's time to pay. the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because I've been through several vets in burlington and this is the "best" one I've come across. bay cities animal hospital is the best I have seen my dad took all the animals cats dogs hamster for many years the last dog he had Barry Burtis went out and did everything to saver her witch he did in the end she had to be put down but my dad got a few more years out of her my dad past away but 2 years later Tasha had to be put down and like my dad said he is the best and no animal would only go to see him and his people thank you bay cities Read Less
