I could not love this place more. I discovered this clinic when going through a tough time with my last cat and Dr. Spence was absolutely wonderful. She made me feel comfortable during a difficult time, never tried to push anything I didn't want, and took the time to explain anything and everything to me. Fast forward a year and a bit later with 2 new fur babies in the family and this is still the only vet clinic I would ever considering bringing our pets to. We have had the pleasure of dealing with Dr. Spence once again along with Dr. Burley. They are both just wonderfully caring doctors. Along with the vet techs, the receptionists, and every other staff member in-between, they make this clinic the best possible choice out there. Read Less

I wish that I could give the Islington Village Animal Hospital and all of it's staff 10 stars. From my very first call, it has been a very supportive, helpful, and loving experience. My fur baby George was sick and getting old. I had taken her to another clinic for her care before this point but was looking for a more loving environment. Well, we definitely found it. George was quickly losing weight and starting not to eat among several other issues. She never liked being assessed by a veterinarian and appointments would usually be quite stressful for her, myself and the vet until we met Dr. Spencer Burley. She seemed to be instantly comfortable around him and let him do whatever he needed to do to help her. Blood test results did not come back with the best of results and a couple days later George seemed ready to pass on. The problem was that I found this out around 5pm Friday when I came home from work and the Hospital closes at 6pm. Dr. Burley called me after he finished with his last patient and the hospital was closed. I would have preferred that he do the procedure since she was so comfortable with him but I did not think she could make it through the weekend and unfortunately his next appointment wouldn't be until Monday. Following one short hold, Dr. Burley asked me if I could bring George in right away and they would keep the hospital open for us. Once we arrived, we were shown to the appointment room and it was clear that George was not enjoying her time here anymore. Dr. Burley gently explained what would happen and gave me as much time as I needed to say good bye. The whole process did not take long and soon my fur baby was gone. I was (and still am) heartbroken and Dr. Burley and other staff let me stay as long as I needed to. I am so thankful for everything they did for us on one of the worst days of my life! Since then I've had a hard time dealing with the fact that my side kick has passed on. Today I received a beautifully detailed condolence card from Dr. Burley himself. He already went above and beyond for me and my baby girl and now even more so. I cannot thank Dr. Burley enough for everything he did and for being such a loving and caring veterinarian. We are so blessed to have found you when we did and I will be back in the future with my other fur baby. If you want the best care for you furry family members, I strongly suggest you go to the Islington Village Animal Hospital and Dr. Burley in particular though I am more than confident that every veterinarian on staff is amazing! I have been very happy after every visit at IVAH. I started taking my first cat here 3 years ago and, even though we now live downtown, I still take both of my cats here. Dr. Spence has always been very nice and answers every question to the best of her abilities.. she's great and I have never had any issues. I also just had an appt with Dr. Burley and he exceeded my expectations completely! Great vet, great personality, and you can tell that he truly cares about the animals in his care 😊 I would say prices are definitely affordable compared to other vets in the city as well. The vets also seem to care about making sure you are getting your money's worth and they don't try to sell you things that your pets don't need. Read Less

I came by chance upon Dr. Spence and this animal hospital full of care and empathy last year when my Daisy started having seizures and was diagnosed with diabetes. I can't tell you how fortunate we both were to have found this haven for animal care. Sadly, my Daisy's time on earth had come to an end, and Dr. Erin Spence helped me through what was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. That was 8 weeks ago and I think about it every day. Haven’t even become a patient here yet , and I already love these guys. Went in randomly yesterday to ask for some Burow’s Solution for my dog’s ears, and they very kindly sold me some. (It doesn’t require a prescription but most vets wouldn’t have just helped me out like that - I had dropped our previous bottle on the floor and couldn’t get to our regular vet to replace it.) Great vibes in the office, staff all super-friendly - will definitely be taking our dog here from now on. Recommended. Read Less

This clinic is unlike any other I have dealt with. I've visited 4 different clinics prior to this one and none of them compare. The staff is unbelievably empathetic and compassionate. Dr. Spencer Burley is amazing.. I had to put my cat down and he was just so down to earth and so nice.. I've never had a vet really take the time to understand my story and my fur baby's story. He listened. He understood. He gave me reassurance. His bedside manner is incredible. He also took the time to send my family and I a hand written personal note to give us some hope as we cope with our loss. Who does that? No one! Take it from me.. souls like his are so rare. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to meet him and that my cat Leo went peacefully under his care. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I was extremely impressed by this vet office. I took my dogs in for the first time since moving for their annual exam and was amazed at how accommodating they were in getting me in quietly with my large somewhat nervous dog. My dog calmed immediately after going inside and she responded so positively to the vet. I saw two of the three vets here during my two appointments and both were incredible with my dogs. They took their time and listened to any concerns I had, and checked my dogs out completely. They also took the time to follow up with me after my appointment and set me up with an online access to my pet records. They have their own parking spaces available right in front of the clinic and it's a low foot traffic area so taking the dogs for a quick bathroom break was easy.I am so happy that I've found a vet office that I can take my pets to that gives me peace of mind that my animals are being well taken care of. There were no pressured sales or tests that weren't needed and the overall cost was quite reasonable given the amount of time they took with my animals. Highly recommend this vet office! Read Less

Dr. Erin Spence and her team are by far the best vet clinic we have been to (and we have been to several!!) Our dog was grouchy and hated vets, but didn't mind Dr. Spence so much, and she was always professional, clear, and very good and making sure our dog got the best care and stayed healthy, without excessive procedures, etc. Our ancient chihuahua has recently passed, and while it will be a while before we own another pet, we know without a doubt when we do we will absolutely be returning to IVAH for their care. Excellent hospital, fantastic care and customer service. I recently switched my 9 month old puppy to the clinic. I got an appointment within a couple of days. The wait was only a few minutes when we got there. Our first exam was with Dr. Hume who was incredibly kind, knowledgeable and patient. A week after that my puppy got very sick and was vomiting excessively. They took him in right away, examined him and it was determined that he had an abdominal blockage. They performed the surgery right away and took incredible care of him. Dr. Spense kept me informed with everything that was happening and I was confident he was in good hands. Phaedra is also absolutely fantastic. She took the time to take all my calls and answer all my questions. I can't thank the entire team at Islington Village Animal Hospital for taking such good care of my little man and for being so kind to me. I definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. I've been meaning to review Islington Village Animal hospital for a couple of years now, but my cat just had a recent surgery here that has solidified how much I trust this place. I live in the area, and when I first got my cat 3 years ago we took her for her initial check up to Kingsway Animal Hospital, which is just a few minutes away and much more expensive than Islington. When the time came to get my cat fixed, I called about 7 different animal hospitals in the area doing research on prices, and while this place was not the cheapest, it was not even close to being the most expensive (and some places in Etobicoke are super expensive) and the price of the procedure was very reasonable, and the level of care and service we received was great. When we had her fixed a couple years ago, Dr Spence noticed she had an issue with her teeth that she said we would need to monitor. Some cats, especially ones born in dirty environments like from hoarders or bad breeders can have a persistent bacteria in their mouth that slowly eats away at the teeth. We had noticed her breath had been smelling bad for lately but my cat wouldn't let us look in her mouth so we couldn't see how bad it really was. We had an appointment with Dr. Hume who noticed that her teeth had progressed so badly the best thing to do would be to remove them all, as it was likely they were causing her pain because they were so decayed and several and fallen out. I know it seems extreme to remove all of the teeth but we did our own research and found this is the recommended solution for this problem. Dr Hume told us our cat would probably be able to eat more afterward because she wouldn't be in pain anymore. Our cat had the surgery a couple weeks later and we were very impressed with the care, especially from the technicians who were great. They showed us all of the X-rays and explained everything in great detail. Our cat healed very fast and perfectly and has been eating much more than before. I have complete trust in this clinic and would not go anywhere else. The prices are very fair for the quality of work they do. When it comes to your pet, the bargain basement price is not always the best but don't be compelled to go to the most expensive place either that will gouge you. Islington Animal hospital has the best prices and I'm very impressed with both vets and the technicians. Read Less

I am happy to finally find great vet for my cats. We had a great experience, one of my kittens undergo neutering surgery, we received so much love and care, doctor called us next day to make sure kitty is fine. All staff members are really nice , we get reminders and emails in time, prices are great. No one is pushing you to buy specialty foods, vitamins, supplements, to do unnecessary tests or vaccines, and not making you feel guilty for not buying them (like most other vets do). My puppy had been sick for a few days after going in to this clinic for her booster vaccines. I brought in a stool sample to be tested at the lab. After not hearing back from anyone, I called the clinic 4 days later and was informed that the stool sample had been lost and they had no records of it. I would have at least appreciated a follow-up call that the stool sample had been lost. I was very concerned when I dropped it off and explained my concerns about my puppy's health to the girl at the desk. I will not be returning to this clinic. Read Less

This was long time coming, but I always procrastinated because I would have love to write a very elaborate review, as this might not do justice to the service and care you would receive if you chose this clinic.For now, in a nutshell I am just going do a Quick review: So here it goes.I am proud to say that Dr Erin Spence is our Vet, first and foremost, she is a fantastic veterinarian and a very decent human being, She not a business owner first like some other places, finding a good and trustworthy vet is actually very hard than what most folks think it is, from Richmond hill to Mississauga and everything ( my favorite city in the world TORONTO ) in between, we had our share of veterinarian experiences, after doing a lot of research we had Chosen IVAH, and we are super glad that we did.We now have 3 dogs, but we had 4 when we started to go to her clinic, she and her team were very helpful when our boy "Raider K" was Diagnosed with cancer, and with the whole ordeal. I am telling you guys, without getting into too much details, this place is as good as it gets. Dr. Spence and the ladies at the clinic are truely amazing. After finding this veterinary hospital I will never take my animals anywhere else. Other then being a great doctor Dr. Spence and staff love and care for the animals. Walking in you are greeted kindly along with treats for your animal. My dog loves it there. Even just taking him for a walk he wants to stop by to say hi. Pricing is very fair but best of all you cant compare the compassion and love this place gives to your animals. IVAH is fantastic. Dr. Spense always takes the time to properly answer any and all questions and makes sure to explain any issues in a way that is accessible to the average person. All the assistants at IVAH are equally helpful and supportive. My cat has numerous problems that my previous vet couldn't diagnose. After too many visits and no answers from my former vet, I was relieved when Dr. Spense was able to diagnose the issues on the first visit. She's like an animal detective with a bunch of friendly sidekicks. Cost wise, IVAH is pretty standard for the area. There are a few less expensive vets in close proximity, but, if my experience is indicative of anything, you'll end up spending more in the long run on the less expensive vets because they won't take the time initially to actually figure out what's going on. This is one of the best animal hospitals/clinics in Toronto. Dr. Erin Spence is very honest and caring. She explains all of your options to you so that you can make the best choice for your pet yourself. She calls to see how your pet is doing after the appointment. She also emails you detailed information about your visit for your records. I have a 15 year old dog and I took him to a few vets in town and I was not overly impressed, but Dr. Spence was excellent. Very knowledgeable and caring vet. I now live a good 40 minutes away but I still take my pets to her as it is worth the drive. Read Less
