Please beware of this clinic !!! I brang my loved 9 year old cat in over Easter weekend. My cat was being seen by my regular vet in the previous two weeks leading up to this visit. My cat had a bad right hip, was eating poorly, and was dehydrated. Through x ray at my regular vet we seen he had gas, and swollen intestines hense why his eating habits declined. We were in the process of treating IDB with further examinations keeping a close eye on my baby. Over the long weekend I though it would be a good idea to give my cat a boost of hydration so I brang him into the emerge. My cat was taken for an assessment in which I was not aloud to be present for... Within 10 minutes I was called into a room in which I was greeted by Dr Robyn Suderman , she told me she was very concerned about my pet, and told me he was dying ! I was in absoultely shock, long story short I updated her with my previously information on my cat she told me she is almost sure he has lymphoma cancer and is declining fast and that it would be best to put him down. I declined , there was no way I was pulling the plug on my cat ! I asked to see him in which she declined , over the next 5 hours I was refused access to see my cat unless I signed a paper to have my cat euthanized and if I took my cat out of the facility I would be charged ! I was very nervous and scared. Within the first hour I was told an ultrasound was done and that herself and every vet tech was 110 percent certain he had "multiple tumors and friends that were angry" she said she took fluid and confirmed it was lymphoma cancer. In despair for hours being refused access to see my cat unless I signed his death ! Was absolute torture ! I asked if they could keep him for the night untill I could have him seen by my regular vet and they declined. Saying they were not equipped to care for him. Again telling me I would be charged if I took him out of there. My cat is now gone because I had to sign a paper to have him killed in order to SEE HIM! I'm absoultely disgusted with the service my animal got by this clinic ! And to only find out the next day they infact do not do proper ultrasounds with images so how she seen multiple tumors and was able to extract fluid is beyond me! Oh and within the last minutes I was told blood was taken free of charge and he had no more white blood cells and was basically dead and that it was time ! Later when I got a copy of his blood lab , he had white blood cells so I don't no wtf she was talking about. Also after reading her report she basically states I brang in a dying , vocalizing cat in alot of pain which was NOT the case. So I don't no what happened in the back but didn't seem good. BEWARE of this clinic and if you visit makes use you have a backbone and can stand up to this people. I unfortunately crumbled in despair. Read Less

I feel it is unfair to rate this clinic so poorly as the care from most of the staff was adequate, if not better than adequate. The front desk staff were kind and compassionate, vet techs were efficient at the onset and all but one vet were pragmatic and straightforward in their communication in addition to being empathetic. However a business (and that what this is) is only as good as its weakest employee (or owner…unclear?). And if this clinic is to be reviewed based on the one vet I am referring to, then I’d have to suggest you find an alternative no matter cost or distance. I had two interactions with Dr. Schell, while my dog was in EVCs supportive care (meaning my dog went to them for one on one overnight care while his primary care was with our vet during their business hours). The first interaction was not great. She didn’t like being questioned when I was seeking clarification on a procedure. The second interaction was awful. She came at me immediately about my dog’s condition and what my next steps needed to be so I wasn’t “going in circles”. When I told her my preference was to handle any decisions that needed to be made with my primary vet her approach got much more aggressive. I advised her I didn’t care for her approach in such a sensitive time which is when she turned inappropriately and unprofessionally defensive and wouldn’t stop coming at me. After telling her more than 3 times that I just wanted to make these decisions with my primary vet, that her tone was awful and that I didn’t need this right now she stormed out of the room, whispered something to the receptionist, walked away and that was the last I saw of her. 2 min later, once the bill was paid, someone came out, handed me my very sick dog and said “good luck”. It turns out, that what she whispered is that we weren’t welcome back (this was also relayed to our primary vet) For someone who claims to only be looking out for my dog, she allowed a bruised ego to guide her response and refuse further care. I should also mention that while I was attempting to end the interaction with her, she came at me over the previous days bill and my husband asking questions about why it was higher than the “high end” quotes cost (which I should add was well into the multiple thousands at this point). She told me they originally removed the cost that drove it over, advised me it was because my primary vet failed to provide a piece of equipment (an IV line…over $100 for this???) and then told me she was adding it back to the current invoice. Which I paid without question just to escape the interaction and get back to MY priority which was my dog. While Dr Schell is *perhaps* effective in her clinical practice, she has absolutely no business being customer facing. Her “bedside” manner is deplorable, her communication style is ultra defensive and this woman’s clear priority is the dollars and cents over the welfare of the animal she is caring for. I have zero problem paying for the elevated cost of emergency care. What I do have a problem with is cost gouging, the aggressive approach by this one doctor at an immensely sensitive and emotional time and the refusal of care because what…I hurt her feelings because I told her I didn’t care for her approach and tone? She, and this practice would be better served if she dropped the arrogance and worked on simple communication skills. Or quite frankly, stopped interacting with people all together. My beloved boy passed away yesterday, shortly after leaving EVCs care. I do thank the remainder of the vets and techs for their care for my boy over the three nights this past week and back in December for the same thing. Your kindness and compassion did not go unnoticed. Read Less

What a terrible experience. My daughter had to take her 6 year old can in at night, only to be told she had a blood clot and had to be put down. My daughter was very upset to say the least. The vet had NO compassion and made her feel guilty for not noticing earlier. They were just concerned about upselling this young distraught lady their expensive cremation services. She asked and paid for a paw print. This was all in the early hours of the morning. She called me before 8 and told me everything. So I told her to call the emergency vet and say you wanted to pick her up. Just the week before we had to put our 17 year old family pet down and Eldale vet were patient, empathetic and very kind. I arranged to have her dearly departed cat cremated elsewhere than the emergency clinic. This emergency vet gave us the runaround. After promising to have our cat returned on Sunday.. made us wait with all of us rearranging our schedules, work and otherwise, only to tell us that we won't get her back until next week... did they mess up and lose her?? Their customer service is the worst I've ever dealt!! I would NEVER recommend them!! Read Less

Three nights ago my dog suddenly went down hill and long story short had to be euthanized in the middle of the night. Thank god for this vet clinic being open as waiting for my appoint,wNt the next day was not an option for my poor dog. He was struggling hard and deserved a quick and painless death. My only regret was giving him the sedative that forced him to lay down when laying down was so painful for him. He screamed out in pain and I ripped him up into my arms and screamed out too. But the vet and vet tech were super efficient and patient and gave him the euthanol as quickly as the could to relieve his distress with the sedative. I kiss him so much but a, thankful for the staff here and how they helped my dog and I at 2 in the morning. Read Less

Honestly if I could give 0 stars I would. We brought our cat in who had stopped eating, the vet that checked on him told us he's probably not going to make it and it's likely he has FIP (a fatal disease). She TOLD us that we are to have him stay the night and that everything would cost 1000 dollars and to sign immediately. They didn't give us any other options and we felt trapped.... We ended up taking him to our Vet when they opened and they were able to save his life (liver failure, not FIP). In the end he's now happy, healthy and his only flaw is his asthma. Thank you for making us pay 1000 dollars and making us believe we were going to lose our friend with your poor judgment. Please do NOT come here! I recently had to take my cat in to the Emergency Vet Clinic of Waterloo, and I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone. I realized my cat had a serious issue at midnight on a Saturday night. (Perfect time for that right?) I called ahead to let them know I was coming in. I was told it wasn't necessary to call, but is appreciated so that they can expect your pet. Check in went quickly, and we were seeing the veterinarian in a timely manner. I understand there are several veterinarians at this clinic, and I was comforted by the friendliness and professionalism of the doctor we saw. My cat was diagnosed quickly, his immediate needs were met, and we left with all the medications he would need for his treatment. We were directed to our regular veterinarian for follow up care. I was also shocked by just how reasonable the rates were. I'd be willing to pay anything to help my pets, but this was incredibly reasonable. It's comforting to know I live so close to a facility that offer this level of care for emergencies. I can't thank them enough for the help they gave my little buddy. Read Less

Had to take my cat in 2 days running. I was very disappointed in the vet care the first day. The vet decided that my cat had eaten something and was blocked, she fixated on that answer and wouldn't listen to me when I said I was sure she had not ingested anything. The only treatment option she offered me was radiographs to locate an nonexistent blockage and since I wasn't willing to spend 300 dollars on a test I knew was going to be negative I had to take my cat home with just anti nausea meds and some subcutaneous fluids, which including the emergency visit was still 300 dollars. She continued to be ill and I had to take her back the next day, the second vet did blood tests which found a dangerously low WBC count. She had to spend the night at the clinic to the tune if more than 1000 dollars. I can't help but wonder if this might have been caught earlier and cost me a lot less money if the first vet had been less fixated on her diagnosis of a foreign body ingestion and listened to her customer. I had to have my 12 year old boxer euthanized this past Saturday. I had to write a review. I was incredibly impressed by all the staff at the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Waterloo Region. They put both myself and my pet at ease. They explained the procedure clearly; giving me an opportunity to make decisions along the way. They genuinely cared. We had taken our dog to this clinic on a couple occasions in the past. And we were always satisfied. (They never tried to sell us extra services like so many vets do these days.) But I was overwhelmingly impressed this past weekend. P.S. I cannot say the same thing for our regular vet. They turned us away saying that there wasn't an opening until Monday I couldn't believe it. My dog was suffering. I probably shouldn't be so kind. But I won't mention their name. Read Less

Have never actually been to this vet clinic, but the customer service over the phone was beyond amazing! I was in distress about my dog who had just swallowed a splintered rib bone and after hearing from another clinic how he would need all these x-rays and tests 'or else', I called this clinic for a second opinion. The secretary was extremely calm and helpful. She then went to ask the opinion of the tech, where she also came on the phone to talk through what had happened with me. She was calm, comforting, and thorough. I trusted her advice and expertise and my dog is ok! I never once felt like this clinic was out to get my money, but in fact, was actually interested in the best interest of the animal at hand. There aren't many vets out there like this one! Read Less

You're going to pay a ton of money for a false assessment!! Read Less

I explained the syptoms, etc. & the staff member -I believe Shawna - advised me that perhaps I should wait, and observe him for a bit.

Read Less
