My dog had a tumor so I took it to see Dr. Au. She told me it was melanoma. I was young and distraught because I didn’t want my dog that I’ve had since I was 14 to die. I didn’t know what to do. Dr. Au started telling me I needed this and I needed that and I trusted her. The thing that I will always remember the most is when she said my dog was due for a vaccination so it would be best for me to get a 5 years vaccination. So I did. She knew my dog would not live long enough to need a 5 years vaccination because she knew the cancer was aggressive and had no cure. I always trusted doctors because they’re supposed to help. That’s their job. To help make people or dogs better. To help heal them. My dog died 6 months later. At the end of the day, Dr. Au runs a business and she doesn’t care about anything but getting your money. Don’t be tricked by their friendly demeanor at this vet. Wait until your pet, whom you’ve considered a member of your family, gets sick and watch them try to upsell you in your moment of vulnerability. Read Less

I can't even believe how lovely the staff are here. Not only are they friendly and cheerful, but go above and beyond where customer service is concerned. I picked up my dog's medication (which was thoughtfully cut into quarters for us as he takes 1/4 a day) and commented about remembering to submit to his insurance company. I was really just talking to myself and making a mental note, but was asked if I would like this submitted on my behalf. I gratefully agreed and jokingly suggested going back and submitting all his past prescriptions that I have also failed to look after. Imagine my surprise to receive confirmation from my insurance company that our last 4 purchases have all be submitted. AMAZING! Read Less

This place is well located, pricing is good and generally the staff is friendly. I would love to be able to write a 5 star review for this place but unfortunately my first experience left me feeling a little cold. Where I got a little turned off is when I was with the vet my little pup who has only ever been to the vet once got slightly snappy (no contact just a "stop poking me" nip that didn't even make contact). The vet essentially blamed it on my dogs breed and that they were unpredictable and kind of insinuated that my dog was dangerous and might need to be muzzled which she absolutely is not and does not. At this point I may or may not go back but being someone who has worked as/with breeders I don't really appreciate the stereotyping of any breed. I have seen many a dog go off from stereotypically family breeds and have met more sweet wonderful dogs from "dangerous" breeds than I can count. Also keep in mind that she had done a very cursory introduction with my dog before she started poking at her; barely a sniff period or a pat. I wasn't super surprised that the dog got fed up. Had she acknowledged that behaviour any other way than to call out her breed I would have been totally down, my dog was definitely not as polite as I have seen her be on that particular day. The dog is a brand new rescue, would that not be a more likely cause? Perhaps the fact she is in a brand new place on a cold table surrounded by the smell of 100 other dogs and a stranger sticking stuff in her mouth/eyes/ears could have been a contributing factor? It was just such a faux-pas and it really rubbed me the wrong way. Read Less

This is the best veterinary clinic in Toronto (and surrounding area), period. We've brought our two cats here, under the care of Dr. Au and her incredible staff (the best!),  nearly 14 years ago and have had exemplary service and zero concerns.Throughout that time, we've always been treated fairly with frank and open discussions about treatment options. The staff are amazing and our cats almost feel at home coming here for annual visits. Our cats are  alive and healthy at 17yo and 16yo  and we have this clinic and Dr Au to thank for taking such great care of them and providing quality advice and service to us over the years. Now that we've moved to the US, I can only hope to find a premier veterinary clinic and staff such as this one in my new City. This clinic does/is neither of those things and I'll never change again :).Dr. Elmhirst is very knowledgeable and it's instantly obvious she has a love of what she does and for her furry patients. My puppy (Sacha) didn't even flinch when she took her blood and couldn't stop giving her kisses. She also did her spay and aside from being a little groggy right after Sacha recovered almost instantly.I recommend this clinic to everyone Sacha and I meet on our dog walks. Read Less

Stay away! Unless your pet has a minor problem that can be easily diagnosed and treated, stay away. Once you paid your money, you will get no follow up care or call back from the vet if you have a question or a concern. We ended up dealing with two doctors, not one, and with several staff, each saying different things. After a lot of money, we were back to square one, looking for another vet who would be able to help our pet and who would have professional staff and service. Being nice is not helpful to a sick animal. It takes care and knowledge. After spending $900 at this clinic and getting nowhere, I finally diagnosed the problem myself by way of research on symptoms. I then went to the Leslieville Animal Hospital where I received great, professional service, antacid pills for acid reflux (that was the diagnosis), after which my pet got better:) There is little else to say but about the comparative cost: the re-check at Leslieville is free up to 20 minutes - I paid $54 plus tax at the Danforth clinic for a few- minute re-check that led to nothing. I was also sold an appetite enhancement pill (one at a time, so I paid the dispensing fee twice) for nearly $22 plus tax EACH - I was told that the dispensing fee was high. My pet needed that pill so I had no choice. I was astonished when I paid only $17 plus tax for THREE of the same pills at the Leslieville clinic. The mark up on this fee at the Danforth clinic is unbelievable and unethical! People feel that have no choice but to pay, because they don`t want their pets to die.Up to you to decide where you would rather go with your sick pet... Read Less

Truly the best vet in the world!  Dr. Au is amazing with the animals and so friendly.  She gets right down on their level and is so kind.  My dog actually LIKES going to the vet!  She takes her time with each client and explains everything very thoroughly.  No matter how many questions, and trust me I've asked some dumb ones, she answers them until you understand. The support staff are so kind and VERY sweet.  They know all of the animals by name and even know their personalities.  When my dog Finn tested positive for heartwood, it was a false positive.  But this had happened two years in a row and the team at the Danforth Vet Clinic dealt with the drug company directly, saving me time and hassle.  Their hours are great, their prices are very reasonable.  The clinic is very clean and each room is cleaned after each visit.  They have just added another Doctor to help with the demand.  Their pet scale is probably in the best location.  It's easy access for the animals and is open enough that you can stand to clam down your animal if they are scared. All I can say is amazing! Now that we've moved to the US, I can only hope to find a premier veterinary clinic and staff such as this one in my new City. If you have the ability to move your pets to this clinic, take the time and do so - well worth it. Read Less

I, thankfully, have never had an issue at this clinic. The only problem is the overselling. The last straw was when my dog was fixed, I was given a bill for close to 700.00 then they wanted to charge me for the cone on top of that. Really? You can't just throw that in for good measure. It kind of turned me off. Read Less

After several years of being hounded for feces tests during vacinations (and declining my cat was fine) I came to need blood tests for medication. Once diagnosed the vet clinic insisted we have blood tests every 6 months otherwise they would withold the medication. 200 bucks a pop.or 400 bucks a year.  Exthorting funds for what became very clear totally unnessesary testing. Hey i get it, they are running a business.Testing your pet when something is obviously wrong makes sense. When everything  is A-Okay? Taking our pet and our money elsewhere. Read Less

I've gone through many vet clinics in my 22 years of being a pet owner. Too many clinics try to squeeze in procedures to make an extra buck, or are just plain crusty. Read Less

Unlike several people who have reviewed this clinic, I was not impressed with the demeanor of Dr. Au. I found her to be insensitive & not at all thorough in explaining what was going on with my pet.On the other hand, we found Dr.Grant to be attentive, personable & kind with my pet.  She asked a lot of questions & gave us a thorough explanation of her findings. The staff were friendly & gentle with my pet(s) whenever we went there.  I think overall, a great clinic.  I would not choose, however, Dr. Au in the future.  Dr. Grant will be our only choice.
