i found that the information dr wolfer gave us..the family ..was very different then the information he gave my vet..at no time did they tell us that our beautiful cat Graysky had a very invasive tumor that routinely returned within a short amount of time, we heard , after the surgery Graysky would get better. The letter sent to my vet, which i received a month later when Graysky had passed away and i asked for his file. Up until then there was a number of excuses as to why i couldn't have access to MY cats file. Stated that this tumor would return and that cats lived a very short amount of time, i would not have put Graysky thru this surgery if i had been given all the information, and i carry guilt for putting him thru a surgery that did not extend his life and caused him added distress. I also found a letter from Dr Wolfer to my vet where Dr Wolfer was making a joke about my cats eye no longer resembling an eye, i find this to be in the worst of taste to be cracking jokes when someones beloved pet is suffering from a tumor that can't be resolved, your lack of empathy was quite shocking and very hurtful to us. I found my interaction with the eye clinic very unprofessional and centred around money as apposed to the animals care. Read Less

No Star/s at all! I made appt on Aug 4/2022 to look my Shar pei Ruby's eyes. Less 3 mins and she has entropion which was a very common for Shar pei. I agreed with him. HOWEVER, the price for $366.00 including consult and tests. Dr. Joseph Wolfer did not bothering to take a test Ruby's eyes. When I left and my stomach was upset. I called the office next day. I asked them $366.00 both for consult and Tests. The staff said YES. I do not have report or result. The staff said oh no needs, that depend if needs or not. I said I need the result for my other vet that my vet wants to know. The staff transfer to the manger, same thing said again no need. I said the price was both for consult AND TEST. I need for my other vet. The manger was VERY RUDE. She said ok and pay me back right away and go find other find. Huh?? I said I have already found other vet. One week later, I got a letter from Dr. Joseph Wolfer's letter and said this letter will advice me that on Aug 4/2022 either he nor the staff their office will prove further care to Ruby. He recommended me discuss setting up a referral appt with another Ophthalmologist to follow up Ruby's ongoing care with my vet. A copy of Ruby's records will be send to my regular vet and they will be able to refer Ruby to another Ophthalmologist. I feel this is a very disgusted, I am the one decided not to use Dr. Joseph Wolfer. Also, the did not say they did not take test on Ruby's eyes that should be. Why send me the letter??? You Dr. Joseph Wolfer and Staff, you all knew about it. No need to send me the letter. I am the one decide to leave your clinic and already paid me back. NO REPORT TEST. Save your time, hurry up, get more money?? you and staff do not have passion!!! No wondering total is 3 stars.... should be 4 to 5. I did read and thought about money or something else but they were very rights. Thanks to the reviews to report to help other people to read and decide on themselves. Read Less

Value Most awful place for your pets. They come out worse than going in. My cat was extremely traumatized and the lady carried out our cat heavily shaking and bouncing around the kennel with one hand while holding out the bill out in the other. The vet was supposed to send the results to our regualr vet and didn't and it was an extreme emergency situation. I pray people read these reviews before going and not after, my cat hasnt been the same since. I feel awful for trusting these people. They were all about money plus I dont even believe they did half the things they said they did and since you cant go in, you can only take their word. The worst is that they said they will send results to our regular vet and they never sent results from any of the work they did to us or the regular vet. They just billed us and said they did all kinds of tests. So, 1500 dollars later, no real results back and no solutions. If you care about your pets please please, do not go here. Even if they are the only place available, it will only cost you money and youll be in the same position, or sadly, worse. Read Less

Dr. J. Wolfer was terrible. If i could give negative stars I would. I highly recommend you go elsewhere. My dog had to have eye surgery, the cost that Dr. Wolfer quoted was 8,000.00 but then the staff told me that he didnt know the prices and that it was more than 10,000.00. They initially told me that all the meds before and after the surgery would be included but turns out that they charged me for them and for many additional post surgery appts. This is so unprofessional and unethical. I am considering writing a complaint to the Vet College. He has so many bad reviews - all indicating poor standards of professional practices. Maybe by many of us complaining to the College, he will have a different way of practicing in the future. Read Less

Terrible service. I called yesterday morning two times with an urgent situation. Left a message at 10 min after 8. Again at 8:30. I ended up taking my girl to another eye clinic. I even called the emergency Vet clinic right next door and asked if they eye clinic was open. It was. My review is because as of 5:pm today, (16 working hours later)I still haven't received a call from this Norseman eye clinic. So I called just now and spoke to Leslie. Leslie first said that "they had so many messages that it was impossible to return all the calls". So, I said a courtesy call would have sufficed. She then said "I'm sorry, but our machine wasn't working". That's when I called BS. And yes, I was super harsh... I will never have any of my pets treated here. It makes you wonder what kind of service you'll actually get when the front line is so brutal and only offers lies. Read Less

And my quote was over 5000 dollars? is this a joke? I could pay for a flight to another country that charges less for vet care and get the surgery done there and still pay less for the prices he quoted me. I cried for days because i didn't want my dog to go blind because I couldn't afford it. Thank goodness for forums, a lady suggested Northumerland Veterinary 2 hours from toronto where she took her dog for the same eye problems. I paid 600 bucks and was so happy. $300 in 3 MINUTES. Went to this place a couple of times for surgery and check ups bc my pup has glaucoma and needed to get an eye enucleated. Dr Wolfer likes to rush everything and never really takes the time to listen to his patients questions and concerns. My dog was diagnosed with lens displacement (a condition where the protein fibers within his eye are not holding onto his lens so his lens floats around freely) and as well as a condition where his iris (colour part of his eye) cannot regulate it self therefore staying dilated. With those two conditions combined it’s OBVIOUS that his lens ocassionally pops out infront of his iris and floats around (the reason why we needed to enucleate his other eye, the lens got stuck infront of the iris and pressure went up). Whenever i express my concerns for his pupil not shrinking and that his lens pops out ocassionally Dr. Wolfer INSISTS that his lens does not pop forward... How are you telling me so certainly when i first handedly seen it myself and i have to help angle his head so his lens can pop back inside!! VERY FRUSTRATING! With all those certificates framed on the walls i’d expect him to atleast have common sense and be more sensitive towards pets and their owners. Other than Dr.Wolfer being so sure on something that he knows nothing of and never listening to his patients, being insensitive and rushing oppointments for us to pay $300 for 3 minute appointments, the front desk ladies are pleasant. It’s sad that this is the only eye specialist in Toronto. Read Less

I was in this so called doctors office 3 minutes and tells me the condition my cat's eyes were usually requires surgery to remove them. What! How about trying to heal first and remove as last resort! He gave me a couple different eye drops to use and he said come back in 2 weeks. My poor cats eyes were on fire after 4 days of these drops and he refused to see me before 2 weeks. I forced the issue and got appoint. He looked at my pet for 30 seconds and said he was fine. I was stunned! I paid the bill which was super expensive and never returned. His end motive was to make my pet's eyes worse so I'd have no alternative but to do the expensive eye removals. I found a different doctor .... I suggest you do too. Read Less

Terrible experience with this vet. Does not respond well to questions, gave short and vague answers. Asked to return for lab results, when we returned, said results were not in, to come back later when results are in. Prescribed drops for dog that helped in only one eye. The other eye was completely red and covered with film. He said he didn't know what else to do apart from a biopsy (for a 14 year old dog) which incidentally cost $4,000.00, and that didn't include treatment. Looked like he was pushing for an expensive procedure and nothing else. We went to another vet who treated us like people and not like an ATM machine. Very disappointed. Read Less

My experience with this clinic was absolutely terrible. Everything began well before they took the money and everything changed after. The first appointment involved less than 10 mins of real conversation with the "Specialist". He gave me superficial information about the condition and my options for recourse, all the while pushing me towards one particular surgical option he favoured. When I asked Dr.Wolfer for possible reasons around why my dog had the condition she was facing, rather than suggesting tests to uncover the underlying condition, he said to me that it was "Unfortunate that she developed this condition" I don't consider his response a medical diagnosis of the underlying conditions. When my dog started to have adverse reactions after the surgery, the vet tech who was impossible to track down, began the phone conversation with "I have 2 mins to spare, so we need to make this quick"! Again, the "Specialist" provided superficial information about the drugs that were prescribed and their side-effects, and made no attempts to help me understand the issue. Re: Prices - The same meds were "compounded" for me, were also available through my regular vet for half the price. Barring the kindness and professionalism of one single vet tech whose name I unfortunately didn't catch, the demeanor of there entire team was awful and the process felt shady! I was told there were only 2 ophthalmologists in the area that took in lizards, U of Guelph and this clinic. U of Guelph wasn't accepting new patients until Jan 2017 so I chose Animal Eye Clinic. About a week before my appointment (which was today, Nov 23 2016) I got a call saying that whoever brought my gecko in would need to be able to hold her because they "don't do lizards". First red flag...they told my vet that they did. Dr Wolfer came in reeking of cigarettes. He looked at my leopard gecko for less than 5 minutes, performed no tests, and said "Huh. Looks okay. I don't know, I can't really tell you the course of action to take." I understand that a small lizard is more difficult than a cat/dog. I really do. But don't tell my vet that you are experienced with this when I had to correct him on multiple things. I told them I was not paying $295 for nothing. The price was for both consult AND tests. Of course they got me by saying "well you still walked in the door and spoke with him." He may be good with cats and dogs. But DO NOT take your lizards here. She is obviously NOT OKAY. Read Less

A tough review to nail down.On the one hand, Doctor Wolfer gave our boy back his sight! The operation was a total success, Dr. Wolfer a total pro, and the facility itself very clean, organized, and professional. That alone should be 4 Star material so please read my explanation as to how I arrived at 3 when things could not have turned out better. The only negative aspects are in regards to what I perceived as nickle and diming.First of all during the initial consultation we were told that the operation to remove our dog's cataracts (from one eye) would cost about $5,000. Unfortunately that number was actually just north of $8,000 once factoring in follow up appointments and medications.Speaking of follow-up appointments, be prepared for a LOT of them. One a DAY to start with and close to $300 per (that works out to about $30 a MINUTE for Dr. Wolfer's time)Now, the eyes are about the most intricate and sensitive organ we've got and the margin between sight recovery and permanent blindness can be razor thin. Dr. Wolfer is a professional and cares about his work so obviously he wants to catch any complications early. Still, it stings a bit to know you're paying a couple of grand for a handful of 10 minute appointments where you hear "everything's great" (but I bet the appointments where he says everything is TERRIBLE are a LOT more expensive  :)Eventually the weekly check-ups became every two weeks, then every three, now every month but had we not finally said enough is enough and stopped I have no doubt I'd still be paying $30 a minute every few weeks. Also, the medication is extremely expensive when purchased from the clinic (and of course they will make it easier to buy from them than your local WalMart pharmacy). You can save about %40 by buying your meds elsewhere.Still, at the end of the day, Professional staff, excellent doctor, and now MY DOG CAN SEE!I would go back here in a heartbeat. I'd just do it with a better understanding of the long-term costs.I also looked at Forest Hill Animal Clinic as they are one of the few other animal eye specialists in the city.  Animal Eye Clinic is magnitudes more professional. Forest Hill does not even work by appointment.

Read Less
