Everyone here is beyond fantastic. You know they truly care about each and every animal that walks through their doors. The hours of operation are more than accommodating, and they always are able to squeeze in an appointment. We take all of our animals here and would be hard pressed to take them anywhere else. Love this place. Have been taking my pets there for over 30 years. I've even adopted pets from them. They guided me through how to care for a diabetic cat who went on to live for many years on insulin. I also had a cat with anxieties who was biting off her tail bit by bit when she was 2 years of age. With their expertise, we managed her on meds and a collar for over a year. She lived to the ripe old age of 20. We now take our dog there. I especially adore Dr. Yan who truly understand Jacks. Some of the staff have been there for as long as I have gone there. The facade of this place is pretty, and staff is super nice, however it clearly hides a lot of unprofessionalism. These people kept my pet sick for years in order to sell me the garbage food they represent. Since we stopped taking our cat in, he's healthy, playfull, his fur is smoother and beautiful and it's quite clear he's this whole other cat. It's impossible not to notice that we would take our pet in for a check-up and they would always find something wrong and our cat would get sick almost right after said visit, followed by extremely expensive hospital bills, such as an ultrasound that in 8 minutes cost us $980. Their answer was "it must've been poop" in his intestine, and we thought it was something more serious. Furthermore, the food we give our pet now is cheaper, it's real and turned him into a happy and healthy animal for the last 2 years. Our cat was miserable for years with the diet they put him on, made by Hill's. It's absolute poison this food! Saddens me a vet knows about all these things and is still able to live with himself and sleep at night participating in this massive scam. One thing is certain, they will not hurt our beloved cat again. They won't even see him ever again. Stay away from this place. They're dishonest and I never want to look at any of their faces. RYAH has always taken good care of my cat Belladonna. I am impressed with how much they love animals - yes, of course, they're a vet clinic! - in the way they talk to Belladonna when I bring him in and the other animals I see in the waiting room. They always answer any questions I have and discuss with me any concerns. Went in to have my dog checked out (frantic scratching! but nothing visible). Doc took a quick look at his hind/tail and declared "no fleas so must be skin irritant or allergies don't bathe as often and feed him half dosage of benedryl." few weeks later, groomer said oh it's just fleas, no worries. I love my furbabies more than anything in the world and I want them to have the very best care possible. I had read many wonderful stories about RYAH...stories of dedication, knowledge, compassion, and the successes they have had treating so many challenging cases. I have 3 feral cats. Dauby and Jaspurr are mostly tamed and they seemed to like the staff that worked with them. Bigzby is not yet tamed, he might not ever be fully tamed...he is quite challenging to work with, but the RYAH staff surprised me with how wonderfully they worked with him and I was amazed at how responsive he was to their treatment. The hospital is roomy, bright, and clean with a great selection of quality pet foods, services, a few cuties available for adoption, and a comfortable waiting room. The best part about the clinic is the courteous and professional staff who offer a wide variety of skills. They are very patient and will answer all of your questions. I also love receiving a copy of my pets' medical reports following each assessment. I would totally recommend RYAH in a heartbeat!!!Read Less

My partner and I came here with our Pomeranian, Fox, for the last year and a half. We got him when he was a puppy and he's almost 2. I always loved the staff who worked the front desk and the vet assistants - this review does not reflect how much I appreciate their kindness, sensitivity, and abilities! However, the alternating vets at this clinic have totally lost my respect. We've brought in Fox numerous times for checkups because he's had a sensitive stomach and, as first time pet owners, we're new to what to expect with our dog when he gets sick. What we've found are excessive blood work tests, prescribed medication before finishing exams and knowing the diagnosis, and overall the feeling that money is the driving force behind the clinic's treatment plans for animals. Fox will need to get teeth removed, as Pom's are genetically predisposed to bad teeth. However, the vet directly telling me that I should "take out a bank account for my dog's mouth" was completely inappropriate and made both my partner and I feel very uncomfortable. When we asked for alternatives to avoid going to a specialist who we couldn't afford, no options were provided. We've now found two clinics (Toronto & Niagara) who were appalled with our experiences and offered options that are safe, reasonable and effective. Bottom line: There are excellent clinics in Toronto that will not rob you off your money and prey on your emotions when trying to help your pet. Read Less

My rescue dog has been a patient and a groom client at RYAH for 8 years. Everyone - vets, techs, staff, groomers - does an outstanding job of making us feel at home and safe, not easy with my dog. He is large and has issues with trust, separation anxiety and manners. I have always been happy with our treatment, care and grooming. Other groomers have had problems with us, but not here. My dog is now an older gent and did not get good care as young dog before I adopted him, so I especially appreciate their sensible, preventive advice on vision, behavior, nutrition, weight, oral care, supplements and healthy aging. I'm very glad I took and now will continue to take, my cat to Royal York Animal Hospital. An amazing clinic with genuinely friendly, passionate, caring and knowledgeable Staff. Clear communication, They were upfront about fees etc. If you drive, parking will never be an issue because they have a private parking lot. I have just started taking my cat there, but they have already went above and beyond. As many people tend to read reviews as they shop around for a vet (I spent a couple of hours doing the same thing!) I felt obligated to post my very positive experience! Prices are fair in my opinion. I wouldn't care to try anywhere else at this point. I'm sure there are several other wonderful Vet clinics in Toronto but my pet(s) found their permanent Vet clinic at Royal York Animal Hospital. Read Less

I have been taking my pets to RYIH for about 15 years and they were wonderful when my loving pet got sick,  they handled his passing with great love and respect... things changed in the past few years with my new pet and I had the feeling for a while that it was all about the $$ the test and test.  My dog now Chili had skin problems and ear infections and they kept on pushing test after test and antibiotics without a proper diagnose.  Dr Suzie was great although the last time she left the room when I was still asking her some questions about his ears... 2 years of telling me that he had a yeast infection and giving me antibiotics. Dr, Alvarez was the worst.. dismissive and although she speaks spanish she did not want to address me in my own language. I know its Canada and I do speak english.  About 2 months ago I noticed some growth on his inner ear.. very hard to see but I knew there was something wrong... and like I said after 2 years of being told it was an infection. I was alarmed and I made an appointment and again Dr. Alvarez decided to take another test and obviously for another $45.00  told me it was yeast.. (Wow.  I have been told that a few times..). just like the last time that she said he had a heart murmur  he should be tested for heart worm... of course it was negative. She prescribed more antibiotics for his ear and told me to bring him back in 2 weeks to check again and then maybe send him to a specialist.... I did not bring him back and took him to a specialist who does not find a heart murmur ?? but did find that his right ear its gone and the left has a tumor that could have been detected and did not need antibiotics as prescribed by Dr. Suzie and Dr. Alvarez.  In my dealings with them within the past 2 years with Dr. Allan etc... its all about the money.   Very disappointed. I went to this hospital for my pet's condition after seeing raving reviews about this place. The staff and doctors were very nice and the facility was professional. However I feel like there are certain dog breeds that the vet in this hospital are not familiar with and my dog was almost certainly misdiagnosed after being misdiagnosed by another hospital. This really took a hit economically for us and when we finally found out what my dog had (a very easily treated condition common in his breed) we couldn't believe that we spent 1000$ and the vet couldn't tell us that! The vet also recommended Hills science diet dog food which we switched to for a hefty price and later found out was full of grain and my dog's breed would be prone to yeast infections if he continue eating it. In summary, if you have a mutt, this hospital is great. If you have a more rare pure bred with hereditary diseases, research for a vet experienced in dealing with the breed before you drop money into tests. Read Less

When we were searching for vets, we saw a lot of different kinds but none of which seemed as convenient, friendly and cleanly as RYAH. The staff, vet techs and vets are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and you can tell that they all love what they do! What I like the best is you can call in anytime for advice and you are never rushed. All your questions, any tips you might need will be answered thoroughly. If you compare vet prices, RYAH is definitely on the higher end but I truly do feel that you pay for the service you want and need for you pet. My cat had emergency surgery just before I had to leave on a trip. This meant I needed to board her somewhere on a very short notice basis, somewhere where her sutures and medication could be monitored. RYAH was very helpful and had a spot for her. They took great care of her, sent me regular updates, and didn't charge me extra for some of the medical care like removing her stitches. I would recommend RYAH highly. Read Less

As a new client, I received excellent service at RYAH from the entire team of people I met there. Everyone was compassionate and kind beyond what was expected. Dr. Valentin was really helpful with my 15 year old cat and careful to progressively do all the necessary tests and checks without over prescribing treatments or testing that would in the end, not get us any good results. I really appreciated the care that was taken to euthanize my most special companion. I will definitely recommend RYAH to anyone that is wanting the best care for their cat or dog. This place is a complete rip off! We found a stray cat and wanted to take him in to provide a better life and the vet at this clinic tried to hose us anyway possible. The assistants were very knowledgeable about medicines but did not provide an accurate diagnostic of our new kitty. They told us the wrong age and said he had a heart murmur as well as advanced infestations, we went to a well known vet in Windsor who has much more experience and was given better quotes for procedures and honest assessment of the kitty. We had a great experience at RYAH!  On a Saturday afternoon walk, our dog was bitten by an insect near her eye.  We were concerned because she was scratching aggressively and the area was red and swollen.  Our regular vet's office was already closed (it was almost 3pm), and was closed on Sundays, so we looke dto see where else we could go to avoid the emergency vet.RYAH was open until 5pm and even open on Sundays!  They happily accommodated our emergency request, and we were able to see someone within an hour.  All of the staff were very friendly, clean and inviting facilities (with a little coffee station in the waiting room), and the vet was extremely knowledgable and helpful.We had such a great experience that we are switching from our old vet even though it's farther from home. Way overpriced. My cat got sick and after $2500 worth of tests they still had no answer as to what could possibly be wrong. This came after we had had her groomed at their grooming centre and they had cut her with the clippers. When she got ill they became defensive at the suggestion that the cut and illness could be related and refused to look into it. This is Malik's vet! They are simply fantastic here! Also, there is a wonderful Tassimo-type espresso machine in the waiting area - a free treat for pet owners! The first time you can take one of their FABULOUS jumbo mugs home too!PLUS the vets and staff are all the sweetest people you will ever meet! They don't force anything, giving you all the options and letting make the decisions. (For instance, the try to offer a range of prices on similar products.) So far we have seen Dr. Annelle Valentin and Dr. Suzie Jerabek and they were both amazing. From talking to other pet owners, I understand that there are many other less expensive options out there, but I would rather pay a bit more for the best service!They offer all medical services, including emergency care and surgery, as well as grooming and boarding. They have a small retail area in the clinic as well.One of my favourite things is the report card we receive at the end of the appointment telling us how Malik is doing, with any concerns highlighted in red.
