Downtown Animal Hospital

After bringing my senior dog here for about 5 years, I now realize they could not care less about him, they are 100% about THE MONEY only. Just a side note..my 1 dog had ear surgery done there by one of the vets, it was such a mess that he didnt work there shortly after. My other small dog had tooth surgery done there, the vet assured me that they they will only pull out up to 6 teeth at at time...when I picked her up 19 teeth were removed, the vet didn't ever have the decency to come out and talk to us, and again she no longer works there! I have an older cat that has always needed to be sedated at other vet's in order to have any procedures. Yet somehow here the vet managed to handle her with ease and she had blood work with no sedation. I was impressed. They were upfront as to the cost. I will be returning. Very pleased. Read Less

Want to be taken advantage of when you're emotionally distressed? Then come to this vet!Awful company, awful vet. DO NOT bring your animals here! We brought our pet rat (Handsome Jack) in here who was pretty broken. I knew he had to be euthanized but was hoping for some good news. The vet barely glanced at him and said no, he won't make it. First, the vet stood there while our animal suffered telling us "anecdotes". My daughter and I were crying and I finally handed the box holding Jack to him, trying to hint that we should get on with it instead of letting our poor rat lay there while he panted out his last breaths.Then we weren't allowed in the back to be with Jack while he was euthanized, and I've always been there with our animals at the end. And the best part? They charged us over 200 dollars. I'm sorry, but when I had to have my Great Dane euthanized it cost the same amount at my previous vet. Unfortunately, we have just moved and I had to find the closest vet. I called around to several other places after the fact and discovered, much to my dismay, that the average price for euthanizing a young rat is, on average, about 80 dollars.Terrible, awful experience with this vetrinarian clinic. I hope they go out of business because they treated our pet with a distinct lack of respect and then they swindled us when we were feeling our worst. Read Less

The vet is very knowledgeable and helpful, my boyfriend and I have taken our pets here a couple of times and every time they have been very helpful and efficient. The other staff, such as the secretary, are also very knowledgeable and helpful and genuinely seem to care about the animals that enter their clinic. I saw some older reviews saying that the vet "manhandles" some of the animals but from what I've observed, he doesn't do anything like that and handles them very expertly and quickly in a way that some people aren't used to seeing or may interpret as "manhandling", but really, he treats the animals with a lot of precision and care. The clinic has an overall caring and welcoming atmosphere and I will definitely come here again. Read Less

Knowledgeable staff, was served quickly without appointment, vet was good and confident in his knowledge and went over everything that I needed for my pet. It's a bit on the pricey side but what vet isn't really. Going to use this location for my vet needs from now on. Read Less

We lost our furry friend Irving 2 days ago. When I called, the staff took us in right away and made our last moments with our cat as pleasant as possible! I have recently taken my 2 other cats in to have them checked and vaccinated and the gentleman and staff were very pleasant to be around! As well as very knowledgeable! The best vet I have ever been too! They are absolutely incredible with my pups! It really means the world to me when they call the day after my girls have shots, or new meds, just to see how they're feeling! Up until a couple years ago I didn't have much experience in the vet world, we originally picked this place because it was close to us in a pinch. I'm glad we did. All the staff have been amazing and supportive during every visit. Recently our cat had been pretty sick, but he always received the best care here at the Downtown Animal Hospital. Last week we had to make the hardest decision to say goodbye to him, the ladies at the DAH were the best we could've hoped for. I will always recommend them to anyone in need of a vet. And in the future when we have another family member join us of the furry variety we will once again take him/her to the DAH. Thank you for everything you've done for Scruffy and us .Read Less

I recently moved to Hamilton and found Downtown Animal Hospital. I needed to buy food here for my cats special diet. They were extremely helpful and even helped me bring the food to my car. They also have extremely reasonable prices (bags or cases of food are buy 10 get the 11th free which adds up especially if you are spending hundreds of dollars on food each month). I will definitely recommend this location to anyone in the area and will be taking my cats here for any health needs. Read Less

These folks are the best. They have looked after our dog all along. This week the lication he was staying at for vacation called to tell us at our vacation spot -- that Sparky wasn't well. After a couple of days a second call told us Sparky wax now quarantined because of the symptoms he was exhibiting and they would be taking him to their vet for medical attention. We decided No we would come home and get him to our vet at Downtown. I sent an email to let them know we had a problem -- got an almost instantaneous reply -- call as soon as your in town -- got to the kennel and called and was told to bring Sparky right away. Sparky was looked at as soon as we arrivedn-- diagnosed - meds looked after and home. Today -- got a phone call to see if arky was doing better. These people care -- provide great service and are the best with Sparky.Read Less

It was my first time visiting the hospital with my new puppy and I had such a great experience! The vet was so kind and he answered all my questions with such care and patience. He was very informative with much knowledge about puppies and dogs. I felt very anxious about having a such young puppy with no experience but after visiting the downtown animal hospital I feel more confident about raising my puppy. Never in my life have I ever been more insulted by a stranger. I was calling..simply calling, to inquire about prices for having my cat spayed. I am honestly just wondering how much it's going to cost to have my cat fixed. The man on the phone was rude from the beginning and at the end of the conversation told me that he couldn't help me, and being worried about the price should be the last thing on my mind. He also said that this clinic was better off without my business and there are many other clinics that would be better suited for me. What in the actual hell? I can't express enough my praise for the staff and level of care my pet received at the Downtown Animal Hospital. Their kindness and compassion go far beyond what they demonstrate to the animals in their care...they extend that care to the owners as well. Let me explain... I arrived at the clinic a sobbing mess. My beautiful boy.... my seriously ill 15 yr old cat, KitKat, seemed near death's door. I couldn't imagine losing him. The amazing staff kept me fully informed of the costs/options/treatments needed in a sympathetic and comforting environment. Both he and I were treated professionally and efficiently and with the utmost compassion and understanding. KitKat has faced a series of health threats over the past year and, with skillful diagnoses and care, has been nursed back to health. Had my male cats 3rd set of shots/rabies vaccine here, as well as having him fixed.Staff were pleasant and personable during my first visit.  My kitten jumped off the table during the vaccination with the needle/syringe still stuck in him, as I guess he was not held propery by the vet tech.  After retrieving him as he had hopped to the floor, the vet instructed the tech to stretch him out and hold him differently.  That is fine, but she used the same syringe and reinserted it without changing the tip.  Once a needle is inserted, the tip is dirty and has to be changed, even if it is going back into the same body.  When I asked about that (but did not say why or that I was a nurse) the vet replied that "It did not hit the floor", and proceeded to use the same syringe/sharp tip. Also I do not understand how they could ensure he got the entire contents of syringe as he jumped off and syringe and tip were still in and fell out.  Some had to have leaked out.  The vet quoted me a price for him to be fixed at that time, which was higher than most vets I had called.I called about having him fixed and again asked what the price was as I no longer had the paper with figure for estimate, it had been about a month and a half since his last shots.  I asked for another quote over the phone, which I was given.  I asked if that included taxes and was told yes.  I asked if that included pain medication and was told yes. When he went to get fixed they called me thereafter and let me know all was well, and I appreciated that, thought it kind and thorough service.I went to pick him up AND WAS TOLD I OWED THEM 50 DOLLARS MORE THAN I WAS QUOTED OVER THE PHONE.  Of course, the lady I spoke to over the phone was not in.  I was first offered the option of them not giving me any pain meds to go home with and they would take them off of the price so it would be only 15 dollars more than they quoted me, but he would have had no meds for pain.The vet told me several times that she had already quoted me a price (and it had been several weeks so I sincerely could not recall the figure which was why I went into specifics over the phone with a member of their staff).  She went on to say that the staff I spoke to was unavailable.  She then said she wasn't the owner, a few times.  All the while she was interupting as I was speaking , speaking both quicker and louder than I noted in any of our previous interactions.  She also told me that the woman I spoke to on the phone had such back problems she could barely walk and that she had saved 100s of cats this week; though I do not see how that is pertinent to them charging me 50 dollars more than agreed upon. They did knock 30 dollars off, but still more than they said it would be.  THE SHEER CHEEK OF IT, THE THING THAT BOTHERED ME MOST is that as I was leaving the vet said "And the surgery went well, if that matters," in a very haughty, sarcastic tone.  I found it quite upsetting, not only the quote difference, the very poor attempt at any resolution, bringing staff health and good deeds into it(though with what they charge those hundreds of saved cats brought in a pretty penny) in an attenpt to derail me from what my concern was and the final demeaning sarcasm.....it was poor.  There are plenty of vets that wont treat you this way.
