Google does not allow me enough characters to type my entire experience so I will start from the middle:
After my encounter with the receptionist this morning and with a bad enough experience, I inquired whether my dogs medical record is transferrable to another vet as I was seriously contemplating switching my services provided there was no attempt in taking any accountability for my experience.
At 2:00pm today, I received a call from the receptionist on the afternoon shift. She called me to let me know that "We have your medical records ready when you find yourself a new vet" (at this point, I wasn't even committed to doing so). As I was completely caught off guard by this phone call, I asked to speak with Dr. Hopper. The receptionists exact response was "absolutely but we will need to charge you $60.00 for a consultation". Your arrogance was the last straw for me, and as a result your organization has already been the primary discussion to all of my friends, family, and colleagues.
Dr. Hopper immediately called back and apologized for the experience, but I really do not think anyone knows the capacity of how much this has truly damaged my experience with your services. I do appreciate the call Dr. Hopper, and to the technologist staff I cannot discredit you whatsoever because you have been excellent and gentle with my dog. To the receptionist this morning, you were empathetic and have fantastic customer relations skills. But to the receptionist this afternoon and the senior staff at this organization, you have an overwhelming desire to put the well being of the animals last and exploit your clients' vulnerabilities to assure you attain your profits.
As a takeaway to the staff: I highly recommend first educating your clients on the specific needs of their pets, followed by alternative solutions to seek the proper care before you push products on them that do not even qualify as a healthy, viable solution. This is not an opinion, but directly related to the tens of articles found online about the quality and content of this food (let a lone, just simply reading the ingredients found on the back of the package). I am aware Royal Canin actually funds the education of their products, and the applications which they provide usefulness for. But this is not the only option, and regardless your clients deserve to know that there are exponentially better options available to them. You do not need to be a qualified nutritionist or vet to be able to distinguish which ingredients are more aligned to your pets needs by knowing the fundamentals of what they require in their diet. It is your obligation as professionals to allow your clients the opportunities to make choices for themselves without regarding the quota that is required by royal canin to sell their dog food.
As a takeaway to existing clients and future clients: Please exercise caution when taking the advice of the veterinarian staff. They intentionally withhold information that would allow you to make more self informed choices that you can feel confident about and that would also be for the best interest of your pet. From my experience in the last year and skepticism whether they were concerned more about the well being of the animals or their profit margins, that was confirmed today. It is very unfortunate that you primarily seek the quotas required by the companies who endorse their products above the well being of the pets you treat.
As a side note, I actually called the Royal Canin technical department seeking objective information about the dog food you so assuringly told me to purchase (time and time again). It was not even to the knowledge of their most senior staff as to what was significantly great about this product. The specialist I spoke to affirmed that her dog had actually acquired kidney stones while on this dietary SO option. All the more reason to seek a more specific diet outside of your organization for the betterment of my dogs health. The only neglect I would have shown, would have been taking your advice with a grain of salt. Read Less
