The Cat Hospital is amazing. Or was amazing. I saw just today that it has closed and now I don't know where I am going to take my old, grouchy cat.In the past I have taken our cats here and it's always been a very good veterinary experience for all involved. This doc knows cats and is very good at allaying their fears. My current old girl is not a personable cat, but we brought her in to Dr Thomas who threw a blanket over her to keep her calm while she checked her out and it was the best vet visit for that cat. Dr. Tomas at the Cat Hospital was the best veterinarian for cats I ever been. My cat Mr. Stripy had been with Dr. Tomas for 14 years since he was 6month. I've seen the cat hospital long before I started to take my Mr. Stripy, from passing by this very cute hospital at the corner of Finch east and Willowdale. She was very knowledgeable, kind and thoughtful, always take time to exprain about his condition or sickness as long as she could. She understand cat very well, and she care about cats but also she care about owners as much as she care about cats. She always gave me choice of treatment plans from minimum to maximum, and any treatment I choose for him she never changed her kindness toward him and me. I was always satisfied whenever I brought Mr.stripy to the cat Hospital. Thank you very much Dr. Tomas, I really appreciate her taking care of my stripy for 14 years. I will miss Dr. Tomas and the. Dr. Thomas has been the vet for my cats for over 20 years. I have found her to be thorough, compassionate, and extremely competent, with a whimsical sense of humour. She found an inoperable tumour in my first cat's mouth which an emergency clinic had missed a week before. The visit to that clinic cost me over 400 unnecessary dollars. When my present cat went missing, she spent a good amount of time on the phone reassuring me that he was probably not far away. I had not even asked to speak with her. And he did come back! She always kept up on the latest research about cat medicine and would take the time to explain. I also know that the cat rescue people in my area adore her. I am so sorry that she is retiring. I, for one, will miss going to the Cat Hospital, and I wish her and Dr Foley all the best in their retirement. Read Less

I've left the same review on Google. Here it is.I have mixed feelings about this hospital. Dr Thomas was pretty gentle and caring with my cat, answered my questions regarding his weight very thoroughly, generally seemed attentive and not pushy with treatments. Which I appreciate. The kitty was doing well by the time I brought him there so he really didn't need anything. The clinic looked clean, no cat hair anywhere. Now, the doctor never asked me how come I didn't know the actual age and breed of my cat , which seems strange. I got him from the shelter, but I think it's important for the vet to double check that. Every single vet I brought my cat to asked. From Dr Thomas' attitude I understood that she thought I wasn't very bright. She basically gave me a lecture on how cats don't really eat cranberries when I told her I feed him the Wellness brand dry food that's called 'triple cranberry'. I buy that food for him because he likes it, not because I want him to eat cranberries. She did't bother to clarify. And then, here's the meeting lines that I have received:- Hello, I'm Dr Thomas- Hello, I'm Luda- Move away from the window cause I will be standing there.Nice to meet you too! So right away there's a hint that I am in her way, which made me feel unwanted there.Another thing that made me feel unwanted was that by the end of appointment she literally told me 'to make it very quick because there's another patient waiting' when I said I have another question. I also provide health services, I am a dental hygienist and see patients just like her, but in 7 years of my practice I never said anything of the sort to my patients when they expressed concerns. Because it will make them feel not valued and wholesome. Staying on schedule is important, but patients leaving with all questions answered and without the pressure to be quick is more important. That's professional. That shows that you care for your patients and their wellbeing. At last, how knowledgeable are you really when you need a laptop all the time to look things up?Overall, the quality of care is just decent. It's not the place where you feel being taken a good care of from the moment you walk in till the moment you leave. I think Dr Thomas simply didn't like me for some reason. Read Less

Dr. Thomas is not the first vet I went to and I've been to some other vet too on a few occasions when she wasn't available.  I have to be honest that Dr. Thomas/The Cat Hospital is on the pricy side (the general consultation/ exam fee is $92 and re-exam fee is $72, which is a good 30% or even 50% more than some of the other vets that I've been to or have inquired).  However, I felt that Dr. Thomas is also much more experienced and knowledgeable; while other vets tend to use the differential diagnostic procedure (a process of elimination) approach to treat the patient, she can pinpoint the underlying problem(s) rather faster than other vets and she only recommends what's necessary (either tests or treatments).  The problem of process of elimination on pets is that they can't talk, and thus it can be a lengthy and painful (not to mention expensive) procedure for the cats and the owners.Dr. Thomas understands the fur babies are our kids and people come here for help with their hard-earn money and also they don't want their kids to suffer. -- meaning: we want to see results, fast!!Dr. Thomas to me is like a seasoned professor at medical school! Every time I was there she would explain everything, detailedly, and extremely patiently, no matter how many other side questions that came into my head after listening to her explanation.I had recommended and would recommend the Cat Hospital to other people without hesitation. Dr. Thomas is lovely and takes time to explain everything. She recommends only what is necessary and seems very ethical and knowledgeable. The clinic is very homey and having them cater to cats makes the experience less stressful. My cat hates dogs and has been very stressed at other vets where dogs were in the waiting room. So it is nice that the Cat Hospital has only cats- she was much more relaxed there (as relaxed as you can be at the vets :).Read Less

I called for a price quote and they were a little on the pricey side.  To bring in my cat for a regular exam without vaccination will cost $92.  If you need vaccines too, that visit would cost $142 plus tax.  I asked if I can come in for a normal check up and vaccines later, and the woman on the phone said it would still cost $142 for the second visit so it would be more cost effective to get it all at once.  I have never been to this vet, and I'm new in the area, so I wasn't comfortable getting her shots on the first visit to meet a new vet.  The staff on the phone was very friendly and professional. My cat has also been here a couple times in the past when he was feeling under the weather and was going medication. This isn't my usual vet however, but I would take my cat here again. They also offer boarding and when you walk up to the door you can usually see a cat sitting by the window looking out at the squirrels and birds as they have bird feeders outside probably for that exact reason, to give the cats something to do! Great staff, and the vet is lovely, caring and attentive. Best experience my cat has had at a vet. He has an allergy disorder and really hates being touched by strangers, but the vet very patiently handled him at his own pace, to the point where she even gave him a needle without him noticing! Superb. She explained his illness in wonderful detail so I understood how to best care for him, which I really appreciated. She seemed like she really cared, and the added bonus of the cat only facility meant my cat was much more at ease. The one thing I didn't like was that she prescribed steroids for him, which did work well but caused him to gain weight and I didn't love the side effects. I wish she took a more holistic approach, targeting his diet and environment first before jumping to medication. Read Less
