I was so impressed with everyone at Usher Animal Hospital today. From the receptionist to the vet and assistants, they were so helpful, polite, funny and were determined to help me not spend too much money which I didn't think existed! Can't say enough about my experience today. I'm sure my cat would disagree ;) I have read other reviews of the receptionist being rude and I'm pretty sure I know which one they are talking about but the one on today was fantastic. Thanks for making the dreaded vet experience so much more enjoyable! Read Less

I got diarrhea. Yes, I know it is not the most appropriate way to open a review but it is the only occasion that reminds me of Usher Animal Hospital. It was fall 2012. I had just moved to Canada when one day my old gorgeous English cocker Spaniel, suddenly and strangely, got sick. She went almost unconscious, shaking, shivering, vomiting and yes, diarrhea, a bloody one, right in the middle of my small living room. She couldn’t even walk so I had to carry her. In my utter despair, I rushed into the closest animal hospital around which was Usher Animal Hospital. There was a lady, in her late 50’s, in charge for reception. Having my dog in her agonies, with blood all over her lower part, in my arms, I begged her for an emergency appointment with the doctor. She said the doctor was so busy but she could fit me in for the next morning. She then asked me for the symptoms. I told the entire story: vomit, shake, bloody diarrhea. “Excuse me?” she said, holding her head up for the first time to look at me. I repeated. She rolled her eyes and corrected my pronunciation for diarrhea. I apologized for my poor English and told her that I was just a newcomer and English was not my first language. “Then I believe you need to improve your English,” said she. I still regret that I didn’t bother her with correcting the way I pronounced the name of that body part through which a bloody diarrhea came out. I should have written this review back then but at that time I was not able to write effectively in English. I listened to her advice and worked on my English. This is the first thing I wrote confidently thanks to the bloody diarrhea and the lady behind the reception desk at Usher Animal Hospital. Read Less

I brought my new kitty to Usher animal hospital after adopting him since he had some very bad scabs on his face that developed worse after a couple days of having him. Usher animal hospital is conveniently around the corner from my place so I naturally just took him there, I was delighted with how much everyone who works there genuinely do care about the animals and you can tell they really enjoy being there. The vet discussed what the options were for my kitty, and she was careful about not over prescribing antibiotics for him. I was very happy with how she did not want to just overload medication. Lovely place and lovely people, definitely recommend! Read Less

We took our vizsla puppy to see Dr Wozniak, knowing she has a vizsla herself, because they're a unique breed. We had such an amazing experience! She really took her time with us and made us feel valued as part of a team caring for our puppy. She patiently answered all our questions, and at no point made us feel judged or silly as new puppy parents. She made recommendations based on scientific evidence and also personal experience, and made us feel comfortable regardless of the decision we made. The receptionist Patti and vet tech Vanessa were also so wonderful and it's obvious they actually love dogs and ours in particular! The prices are on par with what we've seen at other veterinary clinics in the GTA. We will continue to visit this clinic for many years I hope! Read Less

We have been a client of Usher Animal Hospital for 7 years. The veterinary care is excellent- but arguably all veterinary clinics provide good care. Our main complaint is the lack of transparency with respect to additional charges. 2 months ago our dog had a full physical examination for his heart worm medication and engorged anal glands at a cost of over $300. Today, they would not give a rabies vaccine without performing a full repeat physical on a healthy 7 year old dog for an additional charge of $80 for the physical exam alone. They were not willing to negotiate and instead, perhaps charge a "recall fee", the customer service from the office manager was poor. A couple of years ago, we experienced a similar situation where we paid close to $400 for a parasite infection and were asked to bring our pet back for a check up, only to be charged an additional $200-$300 for a repeat check-up, there was no mention of this "repeat check-up"charge before the appointment. We have moved to a different veterinary clinic as the customer service is lacking and the prices are high. Read Less

I couldn't be more impressed. Dr. Wozniak and the whole team go well beyond providing the BEST care for my Roxanne. I have been a pet owner for 38 years and even worked at a veterinary office for 6  years. The Usher team is the most cohesive and caring team of animal lovers I have every met. They consistently demonstrate a passion, love and interest in how she's doing every day. I have never experienced such a level of customer service, coming from pure commitment and concern for the well-being of an animal and the owner. Roxy has become quite ill, and after a couple poor experiences with other veterinary hospitals, I was referred to Usher. Dr. Wozniak didn't just assess and treat Roxy, she took the time to explain all the options in a way that took into account my own concerns. Finally, my cat is being treated properly.Roxy recently, spent a few nights at the clinic. Dr. Wozniak called me every day with an update. On each call she took time, and demonstrated obvious patience and she explained the treatment options an outcomes. There was no rushing - just care and patience. I was invited to visit Roxy one afternoon. I think everyone in the whole clinic stopped by to tell me what a wonderful and friendly cat she was. It wasn't the flattery that impressed me (although it was nice ;) but rather that EVERYONE at the clinic knew who I was, who my cat was, why she was in, and had spent enough time with her or talking about her to comment on her unique personality! When I did visit, my kitty was purring and happy and my mind was put at ease. It's obvious why Patti has been with Dr. Usher and the clinic for so long! She is no-nonsense, 100% on the ball and ready to leap to her feet to help and care and support. When I call the clinic she immediately knows my voice and immediately asks after Roxy's health. Natasha, Fernanda, Courtney, Meaghan, Dustin and Jemal - everyone has been wonderful. The clinic is clean and inviting, my appointments run on time, phone calls are returned, the treatment has been thorough but not over-done. The clinic has been VERY fair about costs and generous with their time. I could go on and on.Thank your Dr Usher, Dr. Wozniack and the entire team!!! Read Less

1) $80 consultation fee?!  ridiculous2) brought cat in for possible fleas, doctor checked for fleas and said there were none, but still said the cat should have a round of flea meds ($$)3) since doctor is giving flea meds, doctor then says the cat will also need a round of deworming meds ($$).4) proceeded to say no to many other suggested tests/meds (and should have said no to other meds, but felt like we shouldn't)5) doctor doesn't even suggest that cat may be acting out in stress (new kitten introduced at home) - with skin twitching and excessive back and tail grooming (ie feline hyperesthesia). Cat proceeded to puke when she got home after the stress of going to the vet! :(It is unacceptable when veterinary practices are more like sales companies than doctors. We wanted to try it though since it's a 5 minute walk from our home. We've had far better care and service at the Downtown Animal Hospital - although it's also quite expensive. Next week we're bringing our kitten to the Bathurst Dupont Animal Hospital. We've heard great things about that place. Read Less

Doc Greg Usher is probably the best veterinarian in Toronto and I sincerely wish that I'd found him sooner. What makes him the best?I've honestly never seen a vet have a better interaction with a canine as this.  During her visit, my dog had her nails clipped, two shots in the derriere, her ears and eyes probed, and a long thermometer shoved up her butt.  Even after all that, THIS is her favourite place.  She won't shut the hell out about how awesome it was.  I came home one night last week to find that she'd destroyed my pillow and arranged the feathers to spell G R E G.  Seriously, take your dog here, it's worth every loonie. The Usher Animal Hospital has been absolutely wonderful to my cat! When you walk in the Hospital, it doesn't even smell of animals (big bonus points here).  The place is completely clean and spotless.  The staff that work behind the desk are very helpful and kind.  Every time I walk in, they always call me "Mittens' Mom".  Even if I am running in to grab more cat food and Mittens is busy sleeping at home, they still remember me.The vets are amazing. Very thorough and explain everything.  You do not feel intimidated at all.  What I really like is that when you go in to see the vet, they have a tech in there as well.  They are very patient, talk to the animal and have the kindest touch. As Mittens has a very overactive thyorid, we have been in the vet's office a few times.  If I am taking him in just to have his blood tested, I can do so any Saturday between 1 & 2 pm and a tech will come take him and bring him back peaceful and calm.  You can also request to have your pet's nails trimmed, and they will do so for free.  The previous vet I took Mittens too, they would SHAVE him to withdraw blood and were wwaayy too rough with him.The Usher Animal Hospital is pricey (as most vets are), but the way they treat Mittens, and their level of customer service, it is worth every penny.
