I am super impressed with the service I received on November 26th. I called at 6 as I was unsure about if it was an emergency or not, I was given amazing advice and reassurance. They had me come at 8 and my cat was in within minutes, I was called three times in my 15 minute wait and they let me go home to wait as I live close. I had two calls in the 1.5 hours he was there, very clearly explained each step before doing anything. Provided me a clear prognosis and future care needs. I was given really clear explanations and direction. Offered if we had any concerns over the next few days of med we could bring him in for a quick check no charge unless it had progressed. 4 days later and out little man is doing great. I am so thankful for the friendly and helpful staff at the VCA Canada Ottawa Veterinary Hospital on Boyd. I took my dog to his regular vet this morning to remove a hard item attached to the pad of his foot. My regular vet was unsuccessful in removing the item and advised me that I needed to take him to a vet hospital as he would require anesthesia to remove the item. I phoned two other 24 hour vet hospitals in the area and neither were friendly or seemed very helpful. I contacted the vet hospital on Boyd and they were very friendly and helpful. We did not have to wait very long once we arrived at the clinic before they took our dog, Tigger. Amazingly we got a call within a few minutes advising that they were able to remove the item from his foot and we could take him home. We were also advised that since it only took a couple of minutes there would be no charge. Our family is very appreciate of the outstanding and friendly service, especially in light of the fact our regular vet was unable to assist us. Read Less

If I could give a 0 I would. We waited over 9 hours in the parking lot. We were told to wait. The service we received was incompetent and careless and the treatment our dog received almost criminal. Our dog lost movement in his back end and was in pain. The vet called us after 6 hours and stated that his unsteady back end may have been because of their slippery floors. They placed him between the doors when done. When I got to the doors he was trying to walk but kept falling over. It was heartbreaking to see. They gave me back a dog that was in pain, could't walk and now dehydrated. He was shaking with spasms in his legs and whimpered all the way home. They gave me enough pain medication for only 2 days. The next day when I called to question the medication amount they suggested I bring him back to be examined again. We took our dog to our vet and it was determined that our dog had injured his back. STAY AWAY! GO TO YELP AND READ ABOUT THE PETS THAT OTHERS SAY HAVE DIED HERE DUE TO BAD CARE! I recently brought my cat to this vet office because he had a large soft lump appearing on his forehead. I had a terrible experience at the 900 Boyd Ave VCA vet that made me feel I MUST post a review here to warn people about this vet office's methods and in my opinion, conduct that was rude, deliberately deceptive and designed to extract as many fees as possible. I am on a low fixed income and this means I have to be very careful when it comes to vet fees. I must make the most cost effective choices to provide the best course of treatment that my limited budget can support. I explained this clearly at the outset of the visit and was assured that these priorities would be applied when deciding how to proceed. THEY DID NOT DO THIS! In fact they performed an expensive test on my cat without even telling me or getting my approval. The vet deceptively told me he needed his assistant to help him hold the cat while he examined the cat's eye. When he returned a few minutes later he had completed an expensive test on my cat without ever having notified me or asked my permission. That alone, in my opinion, indicates a breach of trust, and a level of dishonesty that I find shocking and reprehensible. For this reason alone I would say "STAY AWAY!". But there is more. The doctor prescribed antibiotic eyedrops despite the fact that he had determined there was no eye infection, but rather, this was a soft tissue infection in the flesh above his eye. When the vet provided the eye drops, I questioned why a general oral antibiotic would not be better for a flesh infection than eyedrops. He said no, the eyedrops were better. I accepted his guidance. I should not have; the eye drops did NOTHING! (when I later visited another vet, without my asking, they recommended an oral antibiotic as the proper first line of treatment). Also, only near the end of the visit when they are printing up my bill, the doctor only then mentions that another office visit IN FIVE DAYS would likely be required! That is when I realized this place had no interest in providing cost-effective solutions to someone on a limited budget but was primarily concerned with extracting maximum fees from me. After waiting five days with no improvement in my cat, I called and requested that since the cat's condition had not changed in the short five days that had passed, would they please prescribe oral antibiotics and just let me come pick them up to avoid the $125 office visit fee which I did not have and had made that clear from the beginning. This request was referred to management, and two days later they called me clearly indicating oral antibiotics would not be recommended and they would provide no further medication until I paid for another office visit (just five days from the last one and with zero change in the cat's condition!). Also, when this doctor called me, I allowed her to speak her piece without interruption until she finished. But, when I began to respond by laying out the same concerns I've mentioned in this review, she cut me off repeatedly and eventually just began speaking over me. I had to tell her I was hanging up because she would not let me speak. Another indication that something is going on at this office that renders them unable to treat people ethically or even with common courtesy. In closing, I went to another vet that charged much less for the office visit than the 900 Boyd Ave VCA location. This new vet examined my animal and provided ORAL ANTIBIOTICS! The new vet also assured me they would never perform a test on my animal without my permission because this is blatantly unethical (in my opinion, it's fraud). I would mention that the new vet provided excellent service that was geared to my resources and provided a more effective solution in a single visit and all at a cost that was 40% less than my first wasted visit to 900 Boyd Ave VCA where the priorities seemed to be more about themselves and their fees, not the clients and the animals. This by far is the best Vet Clinic I have been to. From the clerks at the front desk to the doctors service is always friendly and helpful. They truly do care about your pet. Recommend it to any who is looking for a vet. The only downside is, if you go on emergency at night they only have one Doctor and the wait time can be long. Amazing and caring staff! I came here in an emergency as my cat was peeing blood, He had been seen by a vet practice close to home on Friday because he was constantly peeing and didn’t do much and kept peeing. This emergency vet hospital is worth the money as I came home with about 4 meds to get him better and they are there for you 24 hours a day! I had to euthanize my old and sick 16 year old cat yesterday. My paycheque was non existent and they did a humane euthanisa. The vet let me and my friend stay with my cat throughout the whole thing when she didn't have too. I honestly can't thank her enough. The office is also beautiful and well cleaned. Absolutely amazing staff! My pet was unable to walk, his back legs were completely immobilized. I was prepared to say goodbye to my furbaby, the staff was amazing. Immediately came to help me got me a towel and I was able to lay my dog down, helped me all the way. I was in to see a very within about an hour of waiting (keep in mind it was a Sunday and about 6 people before me). When we got into see the vet he suggested a few things but didn’t want to put my baby down yet, he gave us a dosage of steroids and Now he is walking, running, jumping climbing stairs better than before. I highly highly recommend, as mentioned before it is a little pricey but I didn’t mind, without them my pooch would of had to suffer until Monday when my regular vets opened! This is the best veterinarian office I've found in Ottawa. They are fairly pricey but are open 24/7, have extremely friendly staff, knowledgeable doctors, and is a genuine office. I recommend this practice over most others in Ottawa. Read Less

Brought our puppy there at 1 in the morning after she ate an entire tray of fudge. Every vet that treated her was very nice and professional. We had follow up phone calls the next day and we were able to pick her up late the next day. Last Thursday night, I brought my precious dog Chelsea in because she was having difficulty breathing. I'm very sad to say that she passed away while they were trying desperately to save her. The staff was very compassionate. They set up a room so that I could have my family come in and spend some time with her to say good bye. Not our usual vet clinic, so cannot rate day-to-day care, but can commend the clinic for their wonderful, compassionate attention when we had to euthanize our beloved senior dog unexpectedly over the weekend. They were very understanding of our situation and immediately took us into a room so we could speak privately. I was disappointed by the other animal hospital in Ottawa which is located next to my home. I tried to bring my dog to Ottawa Veterinary Hospital then. You know what? I would like to rate them 6-star if i could do. The receptionists were friendly. First time, i met Dr. Lo and she was great. Second time, I met Dr. Wallar and he was awesome! They took time to check up my puppy from head to paws. They gave me advices and some options for me to choose what is the best for my pet and my finance. They have helped my dog out twice now and I am so thankful to have this service available at anytime for emergency situations. My first time there was for an infected abscess that was getting out of control and the second time all they did was provide me advise on how to deal with my dog who just got skunked in the face. Since nothing is open at midnight when these things happen, i was able to drop in and purchase their skunk-off shampoo, which was a real life savor for my dog and me!
