My puppies died because of them. I brought in four newborn puppies who seemed very weak they told me the puppies were too cold and would start eating when warmed also said they give them a shot to hydrate them and sent us home saying they should be fine. In two hours with a heating lamp two of the puppies had died. I called them back at noon they said their vet was leaving and I should find a 24 hour clinic so I rushed them to Cavan on the way there the other two died. I brought the puppies in and the vet at Cavan said the puppies were cold because they were on the brink of death and they should have been tube fed as the were to weak to even latch. I’m disgusted by the way our situation was handled and the fact that they would lie about no longer having a vet there despite them still being open. If they had properly diagnosed my puppies they would still be alive. Read Less

I highly recommend Dr. Thompson, she has always gone above and beyond for the care of my pets for over 20 years. (She's been the vet for 3 dogs and 6 cats over that time.) Especially when talking through difficult decisions like whether to operate on our senior dog to remove a malignant tumour twice (different locations). However, there seems to be a huge discrepancy between the quality of care that Dr. Thompson offers versus the other vets who work there. They seem apprehensive to suggest anything treatment wise if there is even a small chance it didn't work and they felt it might make them look bad. This was to the point that they refused to give any treatments to my pets. If you're told there is nothing they can do for your pet by another vet, I'd suggest getting a second opinion from her. I am not surprised at all of the bad reviews. Until recently, I was a loyal customer of Jackson Creek and although the service has not been good over the past year, the staff were always friendly when you finally got to speak with them. Absolutely impossible to get through; after recordings you almost feel guilty that you've called when they ask you "is this an emergency or can you hold" EVERY single time you call!!! Recently, I cancelled surgery for my Boston Terrier hours before the procedure because I was informed at the last minute when I arrived for surgery that the technician I requested to work with the vet was not in. This is after I repeatedly was told that she would be in on that day; In fact, I was prepared to have the surgery done only when this specific technician was able to assist my vet. When I got home and called to speak to the vet to explain my frustration, my call was never returned. I followed up with a letter to the vet, and never received a response! Not surprised to see all the low ratings; this experience has encouraged me to seek alternative vet care for my dogs. Read Less

My dog died because of them. Went in with her having difficulty breathing, they put her on oxygen briefly, did a blood test they said was all normal, took x-rays and sent us home saying they couldn't interpret the x-rays themselves they had to be sent off but we'd have results in 24 hours. We called multiple times.. no results within 24, 36 hours, we kept calling and 44 hours after our appointment she died in my wife's arms on our way to the vet office. We had no idea she was so close to death, why would they send her home with just pills? Why didn't they care enough about her to get the results in the 24 hours promised? We will be filing a complaint with the veterinary board against this practise and Dr. Randa in particular. Read Less

To Teena and all others that have had a bad experience at the Jackson Creek Vet clinic or its sister clinic at Burnham Mansion, It saddens me to read how many of us there are. Our circumstances were similar to Teena's, except we had a young pug named Elliott that we rushed to Jackson Creek for emergency attention. The smiles and friendly attitude that some of the testimonials claim will have them return with their pets again, cannot hide the loses of others that are sharing their experiences. Read ALL the testimonials before proceeding. I urge you to contact me if you have had a bad experience at Jackson Creek Vet Clinic in Peterborough, Ont. I have been coming to this vet for years. I had no bad experiences before but now I realize it is because I always had a credit card or cash available at times of those emergencies or procedures. My family took in a senior cat and have loved her for 6 more years. She was not a patient herself at this vet office but several other of our cats have and very recently I spent several hundred dollars on my other cat who is a patient. We tried everything we could for our senior girl when she quickly became ill unexpectedly and it was obvious she had reached a point of no return. I did not want her to suffer. I called Jacksons Creek as I saw them as our vet. I had only 100 to my name until my next pay within a few days. I asked if they could put her down humanely and was callously told "we dont do that and you need to apply for medic aid". I was beside myself trying to comfort my baby and she suffered as I had no humane option available to me. It was horrific to watch and explain to my teenage children who questioned how people who claim to care about animals could turn their backs for money that this was now what our vet has become. I understand it is a business and cannot do free stuff all the time. I was not asking freebies rather to give all I had and to come in next pay. I have spent hundreds here. A human doctor would not let a person die inhumanely because they had no money in that moment. But my vet didnt care about my fur baby!! Hours later they called to see how our application was going for medic aid and I said my baby had died. They said sorry and call ended. Sorry??!! Ya you bet they are sorry. Sorry excuses. This is not a vet who truly cares for a pet rather whether that pets owner has a big enough wallet. I want a vet that cares about my babies and myself to trust that I would be good for payment given my history and years as a client and that this was a second unexpected emergency and was in a tough spot in that moment. I was so hurt by this treatment but now I am just really angry. I will tell everyone I know both professionally and personally not to give their business to Jacksons Creek Vet Services rather choose a vet that cares for all pets equally. This is not the place it used to be. Not even remotely close. Shame on you! Read Less

Receptionists and technition were lovely people and dealt fairly with us. The pricing for a check up was reasonable and the 24 hour service makes them very attractive. Vet was not to the point with us though, instead of giving us a concise explanation of the problems facing our cat, continued to dramatize the situation seemingly to get us to spend money. Vet continued to pressure for very expensive options and tried to force us to spend money by opening the packages for equipment before giving us the estimate we had asked for. Overall, impression of the clinic was that they were more concerned about making money but everyone was very knowledgable in their fields. Read Less

If I could give no stars I would. We took our year old dog to this vet as he ate a chunk of a bone and it needed to be removed. They did the surgery that night and we were able to take him home 36 hours later. His first 24 hours at home we noticed his stomach and nuts were swelling and he wouldn't eat. We took him back in and were told he has fluid in his stomach and not to worry about it, they said he would take treats from them so sent us home and told us to monitor him. Took him back the next night and requested to have the fluid removed and they refused to and said they would monitor him as he is dehydrated from still not eating anything really. The following day we requested again for the fluid to come out as he's only getting worse and they told us that they could take a sample but it would need to be sent away and would take 5 days to get it back. We then said we don't have 5 days, he's getting worse as the days go on. We contacted other local vets and they said that the fluid should have been removed and we need to get it looked after ASAP. We went in the following morning to get our dog to take him else where and the owner was there and offered to FINALLY do the surgery to remove the fluid (4 days since it was first discovered). They rushed him into surgery and when she opened him up we were told that copious amounts of fluid poured out of him and when it stopped she couldn't tell what any of his organs were because they had let the fluid stay inside him for so long that his insides were literally rotten. Instead of putting him to sleep she sewed him back up and told us we would need a miracle for him to survive. Three times his body shut down and they brought him back and on the fourth we told them to let him pass. During the 12 hours after surgery to when he passed- they were to concerned about neutering one of the staff member cats that my spouse has to sit there with our dog and hand pump oxygen into him because they felt getting their staff members cat was more important. A couple of the vets had zero sympathy and were making jokes. For a $6800 vet bill I would expect better service and our dog to not have passed away due to poor care while at the vet. I would never want another animal or family to have to go through what we did so I would recommend going to a different vet. Its impossible to understand how an animals whole insides could rot to the extent that a vet couldn't tell what any of his organs were while he was in their care for days. Save yourself and your pet the risk and avoid going here!! Read Less

I honestly didn’t even want to give one star. The vet that I had was very uncaring and seemed disgusted by my cat. I was told that my cat had appendicitis and spent a rediculous amount of money on medication. Come to find out that cats don’t even have an appendix!!! One pain medication that I received were all different dosages which is very dangerous! It was a very high level pain medication. They didn’t even give me enough medication for infection to finish the week out so I had to go back and get more. I don’t drive and they wouldnt compensate me for a cab to get there to get the medication. Then once I got there it took them about 15 mind to find it! Won’t be back! **update review sees bottom** We took both our dogs in to get them checked up and their shots. (We had a nice Female Vet) Our one dog is 11 the Vet gave him a good look over and figured he was in good health (that was not a surprise). Our other dog was still a puppy at 1ish again the Vet gave a good look over him as well. The Vet answered our questions. We did not feel pressured in to anything we did not want. We did need flea treatment so we bought that. ** Update ** On a return visit to bring in our cat for flea treatment a few days latter our experience was very different. - Our cat had never been in this hospital before. (We had Male Vet) He did not seem to give our 6 year old cat a proper look over, eg he did not take the temperature, look at her eyes, in her ears. He spent a lot of time talking about his issues or things that were not related to the reason why we were there. When I asked questions I did not receive answers only unrelated stories. When it came time for him to suggest what flea treatments to get he did not seem to know the products or how many doses come in a box. Needless to say we were left not knowing what to think of our visit. We are still not sure if we will return or not. We are looking for other Vets** Read Less

As a first time dog owner, I brought my dog to Jackson's Creek looking for quality care. They never informed me about fleas/ticks, and in his first year my dog got fleas and spread them to my girlfriend's dog. The following year I was taking my dog to an outdoor dog daycare that required a list of vaccines. When I called to get this I found out that he was behind on some of his vaccines, and Jackson's Creek had never called to inform me. I asked them to please call me in the future, as they should have done, and they agreed that they would, and that was their "usual practice". When I brought him in to get his vaccines I found out he was actually behind on even MORE, that they had not informed me about on the phone. On another occasion, my dog had kennel cough (because they did not call me to update his Bordatella vaccine, yet again), and I brought him in to get looked at. They asked me multiple times why I was in, and I had to reiterate why to multiple people. They asked if he had any vomiting and I clearly said no. They prescribed him meds for his kennel cough and we left. The vet had barely any interactions with my dog, and nobody there seemed like "dog lovers". After all of this I decided enough was enough, and I would be switching him to where my girlfriend takes her dog (Otonabee Animal Hospital), and had Jackson's Creek forward them his information. After his initial visit at OAH, the vet said "he must've been vomiting when he had kennel cough?" And I answered no, and questioned why. She said the meds they had prescribed him were specifically for vomiting. Clearly a money grab. I also found out when they switched his file over, that Jackson's Creek had my dog's birthday listed as the completely wrong date and month. When I take him to OAH everyone greets myself and my dog, and they are friendly, helpful, and informative - all things that Jackson's Creek was not. I will never recommend Jackson's Creek to any pet owner, as I would never want someone else to go through the stresses of fleas, kennel cough, and unnecessary medication purchases, like I did. I 100% recommend Otonabee Animal Hospital, and leaving Jackson's Creek for OAH was the best decision I have made for my dog and myself. Read Less

If I could give a "negative stars" review I would. I was followed home one day by a stray cat who adopted our family. We took her in & shortly after found out she was pregnant. She started bleeding from her "baby-maker" and was lethargic & obviously in pain. We rushed her to one of the only 24 hour vets in the area where they quoted us $1300.00 to save our cat. The kittens had died inside her and without receiving the surgery that day, she would die. It simply wasn't affordable, but we offered to pay half upfront and the rest over the course of a week's time & no leniency was given. The pet insurance companies referred to us by the veterinary clinic would not insure my family because they own a thriving, self-employed business. Even though, we own a home, new vehicles... etc & have many other types of insurance! ANYWAY - I kept stating at the visit that since they assumed the kittens had died, that all I cared about was saving my cat. They sent me away crying, saying they could do NOTHING for her. I took her to another vet clinic in town and they performed the life-saving procedure (WHICH WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IT WAS ESSENTIALLY A SPAYING OPERATION SINCE THE KITTENS DID NOT SURVIVE THE PREGNANCY) for $340.00. She is now healthy and thriving. The NEXT DAY, Jackson's Creek called me back and said they could perform a spay surgery for $450.00 but the kittens would not make it. I told them OVER AND OVER ALL I CARED ABOUT WAS KEEPING MY CAT ALIVE. IT WAS THEIR VET WHO TOLD ME THE KITTENS WERE DEAD IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT STILL TRIED TO GIVE HER A $1300.00 C SECTION SURGERY AND TURNED US AWAY, AS SHE WOULD HAVE DIED THAT DAY WITHOUT THE SURGERY. THEY ONLY OFFERED THE OTHER PROCRDURE THE DAY AFTER IT WAS DONE AT ANOTHER CLINIC FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST. I will NEVER be back to this veterinary clinic. Read Less

I CANNOT FIND THE WORDS TO EXPRESS MY ANGER AND FRUSTRATION THAT THIS CLINIC HAS CAUSED OVER THE LAST 22 DAYS OF TREATMENT OF OUR FAMILY DOG SEAMUS. BEING A 24 HR CLINIC SOUNDS IMPRESSIVE HOWEVER THIS MEANS THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL VETS WORKING VARIOUS SHIFTS AND UNFORTUNATELY LITTLE TO NO COMMUNICATION HAPPENS WHEN SHIFTS ARE TRANSITIONING. NO-ONE ASSESSED AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, JUST KEPT TREATING SYMPTOMS AND CHARGING AND CHARGING FOR MEDS, TREATMENTS AND ANYTHING ELSE THEY COULD CHARGE FOR. AFTER 20 DAYS IF REPEATED VISITS AND $1600. WE STILL HAD NO DIAGNOSIS. AFTER VOICING MY FRUSTRATION THE OWNER, DR THOMPSON AGREED TO MEET WITH ME. FINALLY THERE WAS AN EXPLANATION OF THE PROBABLE ISSUES. BOTTOM LINE, IT WAS DECIDED SEAMUS NEEDED TO BE PUT DOWN. MY DAUGHTER, WHO WAS THE CLOSEST TO SEAMUS CAME WITH ME TO THE APPOINTMENT. WHAT FOLLOWED WAS HORRIFIC. A SEDATIVE WAS GIVEN FIRST WHICH WAS TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE EUTHANASIA. THE VET AND THE TECHNICIAN TOOK SEAMUS TO THE BACK TO INSERT A DECATHETOR. IT TOOK 40 MINUTES FOR THEM TO FIND A VEIN, AND WHEN THEY RETURNED THEY STARTED TO INJECT THE EUTHANASIA, BUT THE VET COULDN'T GET THE NEEDLE TO DISCHARGE. HE KEPT PUSHING, THEN TRIED WITH 2 HANDS. IT STARTED TO GO IN, BUT THEN SEAMUS STARTED TO YELP AND WRENCH WITH PAIN. THE VET CONTINUED TO EMPTY THE SYRINGE, BUT IT WAS NOT GOING INTO A VEIN BUT INTO HIS FLESH. EVERYONE WAS PANICKING AND WE WERE FREAKING OUT. THE VET LEFT THE ROOM AND AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I WENT TO SEE WHAT HE WAS DOING AND HE WAS ON THE PHONE WITH ANOTHER VET TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT TO DO. THE EUTHANASIA DID NOTHING AND WHEN HE RETURNED HE SAID THAT THE OPTION NOW WAS TO INJECT DIRECTLY INTO THE HEART OR KIDNEY....."WHICH WOULD YOU PREFER"? "I DON'T KNOW, I'M NOW THE EXPERT HERE, YOU DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE DOG". HE INSISTED ON US CHOOSING. WE CHOSE KIDNEYS, BUT HE COULDN'T LOCATE THE KIDNEYS, SO HE FINALLY INJECTED INTO THE HEART. AFTER EXACTLY 90 MINUTES OF HELL FOR THE DOG AND US, SEAMUS WAS FINALLY AT PEACE. THE VET TECHNICIAN WAS EXCELLENT AND TRIED HER BEST TO EXPLAIN THE ISSUES DURING THE PROCESS. THE VET RESEMBLED A DEER LOST IN THE HEADLIGHTS AND WAS IN OVER HIS ROOKIE HEAD. HAVING TO PUT DOWN YOUR FAMILY PET OF 12 YEARS IS HARD ENOUGH; THIS CLINIC MADE IT A HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR AS AS WE LIVE. MY DAUGHTER IS TRAUMATIZED AT HAVING TO WITNESS THIS HAPPEN TO HER BEST PAL THAT SHE HAS HAD SINCE GRADE 3. SEAMUS IS OUR THIRD DOG, THE PREVIOUS 2 HAD ALSO LIVED LONG LIVES AND WE'RE EUTHANIZED BY PROFESSIONAL VETS WITHOUT ISSUE IN ABOUT10 MINUTES FROM ARRIVAL. THIS EXPERIENCE WAS SHOCKING AND I AM WRITING THIS LENGTHY REVIEW TO ASSIST OTHERS IN MAKING INFORMED CHOICES WHEN PICKING A VET TO TREAT THEIR PRECIOUS PETS. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO JACKSON PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL. Read Less

I unfortunately no longer bring my pup to this vet as I moved away but I am writing this review because I have yet to find another clinic that I enjoy and appreciate more than Jackson Creek. I have lived in two other cities now where I left clinics after my dogs annual checkup feeling disappointed and thinking about how much I miss this clinic. All of the staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful every time we visited. I have a fearful rescue who needs a little TLC and our vet (who If I recall correctly is also the owner, Jodi Thompson) at Jackson Creek was absolutely amazing. Everyone throughout our visit took the time to say hello, and not only make our dog feel welcome but us to. I am even considering making the drive from Toronto back to continue receiving the great service. Read Less

Read Less

Our circumstances were similar to Teena's, except we had a young pug named Elliott that we rushed to Jackson Creek for emergency attention.

Read Less

Read Less

I am shocked by the great reviews this place has received... I have had very different experiences with this clinic when I needed to bring my cat in. They were extremely disorganized, did not communicate amongst eachother as colleagues ( which caused many problems and a lot of confusion) and seemed as though their goal was trying to squeeze as much money out of me that they could. Read Less

I give this clinic a 2 thumbs up. I was visiting family and had to take my shih tzu in because she was sick. The super friendly caring staff took care of my baby right away and even sent all of the information to my vet in North Bay. They made a point of explaining everything in terms that a not clinical person can understand. I would recommend this clinic to anyone!!

Read Less
