Unfortunately we had to bring our 18 year old cat to the clinic to be put sleep. She was very old and in pain and our regular vet was on vacation. The team treated us with the greatest compassion, they were factual when we needed it and never made us feel rushed into making any of the difficult decisions we needed to make that evening. We lost a very dear member of our family that night and the team made it the best experience it could have been. Thank you. Read Less

I had to take my miniture Australian Doodle to the Kawartha Emergency Veterinarian Clinic last Monday. He was bitten my another dog. I could not get into my Vet as they were closed. When I got there they took Bailey in while we waited in the car, as we were not allowed to go in with him. They were to call us when the Vet had seen him. In less than five minutes someone came out of the clinic and left the door ajar. Bailey came out looking for us. Luckily there were no cars driving into the parking lot at the time. An assistant came out and got Bailey and took him in again. When the Vet called us, we were told he had two puncture wounds and a pocket of fluid. We asked if he could be put on antibiotics and the pocket incised and we could see our Vet the next day. She told us that Bailey would only get worse if she did not do surgery right away. We were then told we would have to preauthorize for $1700 for the surgery and medications. We told her to go ahead. I can't believe how big the incisions were. They were each 2 inches long and 2 drain incisions 1inch in length. There was no need for these incisions to be so large. We were told to keep him quiet and no jumping or running. Well on the Wednesday Bailey jumped up into the car when we had to go out and did not want to leave him alone. When we came home the incisions were opened up. The stitches should not have come undone that easily. Now after seeing our Vet on Thursday. The drain is out and we have 4 open wounds. We have to flush the wounds twice daily and fingers crossed no infection occurs. Not impressed with the amount of the bill, and the service we received. Jan. Hlywka. Read Less

After hearing horror stories about the pricing for emergency vet care, I drove to Kvec with a pit in my stomach not knowing if I could afford the injuries our cat had somehow obtained. I was so comforted by the staff and pleasantly surprised when I was not judged or lectured for having a barn cat. A selection of treatment options were laid out along with their prognosis, and I chose what I felt I could afford that would still give Stanley a comfortable recovery. When I returned to pickup my cat, I was informed that the more involved procedure had taken place, and I began to panic as that is not what I had budgeted for. BUT I was only charged for what had been agreed upon! Thank God I found an Emergency clinic that put the well being of the animal above the almighty buck! Dr. Parker and staff deserve the highest praise. I am so grateful that they understood I was doing the best I could for a cat that had been dumped at our farm, and wormed his way into our hearts. I attended KVEC on 01/23/2018 with my 2.5yo Bedlington Terrier named Howie who was suffering from suspected poisoning from an ingested substance. We were attended to by Dr. van den Mulen who quickly and confidently liased with the Poison Control Center using our reference number. The care offered to us at KVEC was second to none. Howie was safe and well cared for. KVEC forwarded records promptly to my home veterinarian for follow up. As a professional groomer there are many things I look for in a pet care facility and KVEC checked all of my boxes. Dr. van den Mulen also offered to fill out any necessary paperwork for his insurance. I must say I was surprised at the low cost of the emergency service I received. Emergency veterinary care is a specialized service that uses many expensive pieces of equipment, expensive drugs, requires talented and highly trained staff, and a state of the art facility - none of these things listed are inexpensive. The price I paid was below expected, and I would confidently refer any of my clients to KVEC in the event of an emergency. Thank you from Howie and I! Chris at Comar Bedlington Terriers Reg’d. Perhaps I WOULD have been pleased with the actual service/care, however ... I contacted KVEC upon the recommendation of my then regular vet whose office was about to close when I called regarding my 19-year-old cat needing to be euthanized. I was calling at 4:45 p.m. and they close at 5 and had hoped that they would stay a bit late, but they were not able to. I asked if they thought the cat might just pass away peacefully during the night or if I should wait until morning and bring her in - they said that more than likely things would not go well and I would have an "emergency" situation on my hands late at night with the cat suffering, and family panicking. I phoned KVEC and was quoted $350.00 to euthanize the cat, and something in the range of additional $300 - $700 for cremation, depending on whether I wanted her cremated with other pets, or a private cremation. I was simply not prepared to pay $350.00 just for an injection to euthanize the cat - and I certainly wasn't going to pay hundreds for cremation (we would bury her ourselves). I decided that we would have to wait until the next day to go to our regular vet. Unfortunately, indeed, hours later I did not feel that we could wait through the night ... and at 11 p.m. I recalled having driven past a 24 hour vet clinic near Cavan (on drives to/from Port Perry). Sure enough Cavan Hills Animal Hospital is open 24/7 and I called them: Their price was $150 for euthanasia (less than half the price of KVEC) and cremation costs were also less than half the cost. We drove to Cavan shortly after midnight - and while it was all very sad, we felt the staff were caring, kind and gentle .. and, also importantly, we didn't feel we were taken advantage of financially in order to make a quick buck off of our pets' suffering and our desperation to get help for her. The next day I phoned my regular vet to ask if they were aware of the pricing charged by KVEC: Indeed they were NOT aware of this, and they were quite shocked and surprised. They assured me that their own prices are NOT anywhere near that, had I been able to wait until the next day, and that they would now rethink where they refer after hours emergencies to (presumably they now recommend Cavan Hills). A happy ending, though: When at Cavan Hills there was a small kitten in a cage in the waiting area - he had been abandoned in the parking lot. We came back the next day and took him home with us. So, while sadly one kitty's life was over (after a long life for a cat - 19 years) there was another kitty in need of a home. Read Less

KVEC was excellent in the care of Ozzy our 13 year old lab (& his pawrents). Oz was diagnosed with Idiopathic Geriatric Vestibular Disease. On the telephone, when I called and in person, they were calm and thorough. Dr. Sandy Jones, explained what she was looking for in her testing and what the results were. She explained very thoroughly her diagnosis, treatment and recommendations. We thought we were going to lose our beloved Oz, but happy to report he is progressing as Dr. Jones explained. A heartfelt thank you!!! Read Less

We had to say goodbye to our kitty in April. The staff at KVEC were wonderful. They thorougly explained what was going on, answered our questions clearly, and made sure we were aware of what options were available to us. They made this very difficult time a little easier. We also received a card in the mail a few days later, which was a lovely gesture. Thank you KVEC for taking such great care of our cat. Read Less

We have required the services of the Kawartha Veterinary Clinic twice over the past month for each of our two cats. On both occasions we received the most compassionate care from Dr. Sandy Jones. Unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to put our beloved cat Codie down and Dr. Jones could not have been more patient, understanding and thorough as we went through this extremely heartbreaking process. Yesterday we received a card from Dr. Jones and we so appreciated her reaching out to us. I highly recommend the services of KVEC and those of Dr. Jones. Read Less

I recently took my dog to the Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic for some skin issues as my regular veterinarian was closed. They were all extremely knowledgeable, and compassionate. My dog is quite fearful of new surroundings and people and they all took the time to make him feel so welcomed and comfortable!! I would never hesitate to take my dog back to the Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Hospital, or refer a friend to go there! Thank you to the team at Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Hospital, my boy feels better than ever!!! Read Less

I cannot say enough good things about this place. We had to bring our sick Jack Russell in on a Friday night and unfortunately had to put her down 2 days later. The staff, including Dr. Chomko, Dr. Dell and Katie were so supportive in helping us make a very difficult and heartbreaking decision. They treated us (and our dog) with such compassion, even though they'd never met us before. They went above and beyond what we could have ever expected from an emergency clinic, including the card we received in the mail with their sympathies. Thank you so very much, from the bottom of my heart! Read Less
