This should have been posted for a while now, but here we go. My dog had a little condition called demodex, which is basically an overactive mite infestation, when he was a puppy. It is not a serious thing at all, and usually results from a suppressed immune system. Considering that he was a puppy at a time, it comes as no surprise at all. The symptom that he was displaying was that his hair started to fall out on his head. It looked worrysome to us, so of course we decided to bring him to the vet for a check up. The vet (Dr. Kimberly Hester) did the test and came back with a solution of giving him some drugs to deal the infestation. She said that if the condition does not clear within a couple of weeks, he would need to get a "chemical bath" to get rid of it. The drugs cost about $200 in total, and the "bath" would have cost hundreds of dollars more. We decided to go online and do some research before giving the pup the prescribed meds and turns out that this medication is basically a poison that the dog absorbs through their body and as a consequence would kill the excess mites. One of the side effects of this medication is that it suppresses the immune system of the dog in their later years. We started to research more and turned out that the proposed "chemical bath" is one of the extreme methods to treat your dog with, as it REALLY impacts their immune system in the long run. Basically, a condition that starts due to an already suppressed immune system is treated in ways that suppress the immune system even more. What's worse is that the vets (professionals that are supposed to take care of the pet's health) make profit on making the pets UNhealthy. It's a complete oxymoron, but I guess it pays the bills, right?
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! At this point, we were doing research intensively and turns out that all that was needed to treat this condition is a solution of water, borox and hydrogen peroxide - completely safe compounds that do not impact the animal's health. We washed the pup with his shampoo and then dumped the solution on him without drying. The condition was resolved after 3 baths. Both compounds together cost less than $10 and the pup is healthy and did not have to go through the immunity suppressing treatments to get rid of it. I don't know whether the vet didn't know about it (which she should have instead of trying to destroy my dog's immunity), or knew about it but didn't tell us, because, hey, she is making money at it. Whatever the case is - it is absolutely disgusting that they wanted us to pay for limiting my time with my dog. I strongly encourage everyone doing their own research on the medications they are giving to their pets, that is prescribed to them by the vets from this clinic. Read Less
