Got a puppy and the next day it was vomiting worms. My girlfriend called around and found Carp Road to be open and they were willing to take the dog in for an exam a few hours later. Met with the vet who did a small sales pitch but backed off after we said no and has been nothing but professional since. We always know what we're getting into pricewise. When we get a diagnosis all options are explained to us from the cheapest to the one where we have to remortgage the house, no surprises. Our dog loves seeing the vet and has seen 2 of the vets at this clinic, both of them are treated with high energy and kisses from her. I would be hard pressed to bring my dog to another vet if Carp Road was within a reasonable distance and was open. Read Less

Twice in the past two weeks our family has needed emergency vet care and both times Carp Road AH came through. Tried three other vets in the area including "our vet" and no one else could see the pet same day EXCEPT Carp Road AH. We will not be returning to "our vet's office". I brought my cat here for a medical emergency and was made to feel like an idiot at the front desk, being asked "you know that we are appointment only?" After repeating my story with clear desperation she said she would check with one of the veterinarians to see if they could fit me in. My cat had ripped out several claws and filed the rest down to nothing overnight. The entire house was covered in blood. I also noticed some strange behaviour in the time between when I woke up, and taking him to the hospital; he would suddenly foam at the mouth and act crazy, running and jumping into walls essentially. I was told he likely got into some place new and had a "traumatic experience" as he couldn't get out or down from wherever he got into. He dismissed my concerns of acting crazy or foaming at the mouth as "stress". I was told to do nothing about his bleeding paws except watch for infection over the next few weeks. It wasn't until later that night, some panicked googling, and a 4am trip to the ER including a $1200 overnight stay that it became apparent something was seriously wrong. Dr Mathieu Grenier misdiagnosed Complex Partial Seizures with potential life threatening consequences. Thank god for the vets at VCA Canada Ottawa Veterinary Hospital on Boyd Ave, who took the issue seriously. Read Less

My dog broke her leg today while walking in a dog park. I picked her up as she was in pain and drove as fast as I could to this animal hospital. I had been carrying the dog for about 10 minutes (its a 45 pound Berner puppy) out of the forest. I am currently recovering from an ankle surgery myself, where I had 6 pins put in my leg earlier this month. I arrived at the hospital in quite a panic, and was told that they were closing soon and they would be unable to assist me and my poor puppy Finley. I think this is unacceptable, the staff member was rude to me as I tried to lay down Finley (I was at a breaking point physically). I told him I had carried her barking and screaming for a while, while obviously in pain myself. He looked at me and said "dont put that dog down here, you have to go somewhere else". I explained I was struggling and I myself am recovering from an injury, to which he made a face as so to say I was lying to him. Don't bring your dog here. In a moment like this, when you really need help, they might be closing. First and last visit to this "hospital". Read Less

Dog passed out on the lawn, but it was a bad time for them because the doctor was on lunch that Saturday at the time I called. An emergency fee + 15 minutes of their time costed $400 to have our dog put down. Googling around I'm finding that $150 is more normal. Always ask for the price over the phone before going! Ask for a quote or a guess if you're dealing with an ailment. And write a review when you're disgruntled over cost. It's the only thing you can do to fight back against this type of private unregulated health system. If not predictable, you're out of luck, because walking into a vet office is like writing a blank cheque. One extra star for the clay paw imprint, which I did like though. Read Less

I have been taking my dogs to Carp Rd Animal Hospital for almost 8 yrs. 5 yrs ago we had to say good bye to our Sheltie. The staff and Vet were wonderful. I continue to bring my 14 yr old Toy Poodle there. She has been a healthy dog until last summer. Dr.Oliarnyk has been giving her wonderful care. My dog isn't sick per se, but does have health issues related to aging. I am convinced that Dr.Oliarnyk has prolonged the life of my dog. My husband and I often discuss the great care given to our dog vs the care humans get from their Drs. The staff are very pleasant and thorough. Veterinary care is expensive. I find that asking about medication and procedural costs ahead of time helps me to make informed and practical decisions for me and my dog. Read Less
