General Info
Barrydowne Animal Hospital was built and opened for practice in 1963 by Dr. Lou Ripa.
Since that time, we have continuously upgraded both the facility, and our ability to
practice.
As technology advanced, we have added the ability to do laser surgery which reduces
blood loss, as well as reducing pain and swelling, and speeds healing. With a therapeutic laser machine we can treat pain associated with arthritis, soft tissue damage and dermatitis etc.
Our digital radiographs allow us to have instant results and avoid toxic chemicals
associated with traditional x-rays. These radiographs, as well as being accessible to our
computer system including our exam room laptops, can also be sent by e-mail to
specialists for consultation if necessary.
Our dental suite, complete with dental x-ray ability, enable us to give dental treatments which we consider a very important element of overall health care.
We believe strongly in preventative health care for your pets, which helps to maintain a
long and healthy life.
By attending seminars, conferences, and other educational pursuits, we strive to give our
patients the best and latest treatments possible.
Our clients should expect and deserve nothing less.

Love this animal hospital!!! I get friendly service almost every time. They are so sweet to my shy pup. They were also the only Vet in Sudbury to do what my dog actually needed done to her. I tried to tell other vets and they would just act like they knew my dog best and then prescribe medicine that my dog wouldn't take. THIS VET didn't, They listened to my concerns and saw what was wrong and addressed it in the way that was needed! They earned my loyalty ever since and that was 4 years ago. My dog will always go here.

Had to go in on July 2nd for an emergency call. The vet misdiagnosed my cats problem and over sold us on meds ($100) and food ($80) . She did not address the problem at hand and assumed my cat was " stressed ". Cat was in distress all night and luckily my vet fixed him up properly the next day. Seems like they want to sell you food and meds to fix medical problems. Make sure to see all fees ahead of time and don't get duped out of $550 like we did.

I can't even give Barrydowne animal hospital one star. This hospital has one thing at the fore front of their minds how to get rich quick. My dog needed a surgery just a little more complicated than a spade they quoted me $3300-$4000, and the vet didn't even go through the procedure with me the receptionist explained the quote and said the only time they can do the surgery is tomorrow if you want to drop the dog off. I got antibiotics from them 42 pills was $200, that's almost $5 a pill. Every time we took our dogs in they where always trying to sell us something. I just didn't trust there professional opinion anymore and there fees are insane. I took my dog to another vet in town the exact surgery cost us $1500.

They were able to see my cat quickly when she started acting up and I couldn't find any openings anywhere. I was a bit surprised by the cost when I went to pay though; I wish I would have been notified in some way and could have agreed to the general examination (with cost) that preceded the examination of the issue, and informed of costs of the few medications prescribed. What if I were not able to pay that amount? Not pleased but not displeased...

We have been taking our Australian Shepherd to Barrydowne Animal Hospital since we got her. We are always so happy with the care that she receives. Any tests (blood work, xrays etc) are only done when necessary and the fees are very reasonable. We wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

Unfortunately my dog has had numerous visits to the doctors in the passed three years. So it's needless to say that she's not a fan of her trips to the vets. But once I am able to get her through the door, the staff at the Barrydowne Animal Hospital make it their goal to make Jade as comfortable as possible. They are so generous with love and treats for her, and information and guidance for me. They're an incredibly knowledgeable staff and they make it very clear that they have your animals best interest at heart.

I have been using Barrydowne Animal Hospital for going on 10 years and can honestly say I have had nothing but positive experiences with them. The new owners have put together a great team including themselves and although I was already satisfied with Barrydownes service they have made a lot of very positive changes and seem to be always looking forward. I am a pet owner that when he has a sick pet he wants to be seen as soon as possible and Barrydowne staff do what they can to make that happen and pleasantly. They do a very good job at assessing your pets health and always give you options on cost and treatment. They have treated me with as much compassion as they can in one of the worst times in a pet owners life and they have shared as much joy and care as they could in one of the best times of a pet owners life. They are and will continue to be my choice of Health Care Professionals for my Pets.

We tried what we thought would help her, but after 2 wks, I decided I love her too much to see her suffer with this mysterious disease she had within her body. She was always my Pretty Girl, and I didn't want her last few days to be uncomfortable for her. RIP Ally cat, I made sure I brushed you and kissed you on your forehead, (made you look pretty) just the way I always did.

I have never heard of such a disturbing and cruel business in my life. Today my friends cat was in here with what was eventually diagnosed to be a broken knee. She was then given the estimated cost for surgery to be around $5,000.00. Being a college student with other bills and debts of her own, she was unable to afford this. Breaking down into tears, she was basically told she had to surrender the cat to the SPCA in order for the cat to get the surgery. The staff at Barrydowne animal hospital acted completely unprofessional and non-empathetic, which you would not expect from 'professionals' dealing with customers sick and/or injured animals on a daily basis. In the end, a comparable vet in the Sudbury area quoted the surgery to be in the range of $1,100, to which payments would be available. So, thanks Barrydowne animal hospital, not only for completely ripping a young girls heart out; but for contributing to the large population of animals already in need of a home, when she was loved where she was. PS: This cat was injured to no fault of the owner, and the cat was properly cared for.

Love this animal hospital!!! I get friendly service almost every time. They are so sweet to my shy pup. They were also the only Vet in Sudbury to do what my dog actually needed done to her. I tried to tell other vets and they would just act like they knew my dog best and then prescribe medicine that my dog wouldn't take. THIS VET didn't, They listened to my concerns and saw what was wrong and addressed it in the way that was needed! They earned my loyalty ever since and that was 4 years ago. My dog will always go here.

Had to go in on July 2nd for an emergency call. The vet misdiagnosed my cats problem and over sold us on meds ($100) and food ($80) . She did not address the problem at hand and assumed my cat was " stressed ". Cat was in distress all night and luckily my vet fixed him up properly the next day. Seems like they want to sell you food and meds to fix medical problems. Make sure to see all fees ahead of time and don't get duped out of $550 like we did.

They were able to see my cat quickly when she started acting up and I couldn't find any openings anywhere. We have been taking our Australian Shepherd to Barrydowne Animal Hospital since we got her. We are always so happy with the care that she receives. Any tests (blood work, xrays etc) are only done when necessary and the fees are very reasonable. We wouldn't consider going anywhere else.

Unfortunately my dog has had numerous visits to the doctors in the passed three years. So it's needless to say that she's not a fan of her trips to the vets. But once I am able to get her through the door, the staff at the Barrydowne Animal Hospital make it their goal to make Jade as comfortable as possible. They are so generous with love and treats for her, and information and guidance for me. The new owners have put together a great team including themselves and although I was already satisfied with Barrydownes service they have made a lot of very positive changes and seem to be always looking forward. I am a pet owner that when he has a sick pet he wants to be seen as soon as possible and Barrydowne staff do what they can to make that happen and pleasantly. In the end, a comparable vet in the Sudbury area quoted the surgery to be in the range of $1,100, to which payments would be available. So, thanks Barrydowne animal hospital, not only for completely ripping a young girls heart out; but for contributing to the large population of animals already in need of a home, when she was loved where she was. PS: This cat was injured to no fault of the owner, and the cat was properly cared for.
