This was my first time here and won't be back as i was ripped off I had come for ONLY medication for my dog and was told she needed an exam which I wasn't told they'd charge me the exam was $90 and my dogs meds was $150!? I ended having to pay for the 2 minute exam in and meds when I got home I looked it up the tick & flea medication DOES NOT cost $140-150 as petsmart sells the exact same one for $60...I got ripped off Read Less

A couple years ago my cat got sick and needed surgery. It was a scary experience, and I was really worried about the cost. Dr Black took care of everything for a super reasonable price. They even kept her there a bit longer free of charge. When I came to pick her up, she was wandering the clinic like she owned the place. Dr.Black is the most knowledgeable and experienced veterinarian in all of Toronto in my opinion. He was the Vet for our dog Jasper for almost 16 years. Jasper passed away yesterday February 10th, 2017 of severe kidney failure. My wife and I are extremely grateful to Dr Black and his team for all their support during this extremely heart heavy time. After going to busy clinics where I never got to see the same vet twice and every visit seemed to result in an aggressive hard sell of very expensive services, like teeth cleaning under anesthesia, I really appreciate this place. It's one of the few personal clinics remaining in the city. Everyone here knows my dog, and Dr. Black has a confident, kind manner with pets and a reassuring manner with pet owners. Our dog has been Dr. Black's patient for 8 years. We are so glad to have found this clinic. Dr. Black is knowledgeable, professional and trustworthy. Previous vets have tried to sell us unnecessary products and services, but we have never had this kind of experience with Dr. Black. He does not intervene unnecessarily and attends to our dog's needs promptly and expertly. Prices are fair and reasonable. It is also a treat to visit the historically fascinating building. I never write reviews, but I thought I would spread the word to NEVER go to this vet!!!!!! I mean NEVER!!!!!!!!!My Golden had hot spots and sore ears. Which she has had before because she is a golden. We had taken her to another vet in the past prescribed some pills, took a couple days and she was better.At my appointment at Dr. Blacks They take you into this room that looks like it has not been cleaned in years. Then I had to help lift my 85lbs dog onto the counter that was just about my waist height and I had to hold her down while they butchered her!!! Shaved her hot spots and cut her soooo bad she was bleeding everywhere, from the blade. On both her knees, under her arm and on her belly. I asked, 'is this blood from the hot spots?' The nurse said, 'well no'. Worst experience of my life!!!Then he prescribed me pills to help the hot spots. We followed the direction he hand written on the bottle. About a week of being on the pills she started peeing a lot. And I mean a lot, during 1 walk like 10 times. Maybe she is just drinking a lot of water?? I thought..... Cause she usually only pees 4-5 times a day! Then she started peeing blood!! After having an ultrasound and multiple tests at a better Animal Hospital, she has a bladder infection! Dr. Black is the most outstanding vet in Toronto. 2 other hospitals wanted thousand $ to perform test on our Jack named Minnie due to lumps under her skin. They said it was cancer... Dr. Black examined her for 5 minutes and laughed. Fat deposits. Total charge 0$. That was several years ago and Minnie is still great. Still fat deposits! My Terrier Dooby had front teeth which had to be removed. Dooby had a rough time (he's old). Dr. Black kept him next to his bed all night. The cost of his services was 30% of other clinics. It will be a great loss to our community when he retires. We love Dr. Black and his loving staff. What a great man. Read Less

We have been going to Black's for 15 years with four cats and two dogs. Every experience we've had there has been wonderful. The vets are competent and sensible. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. They were perfect when we had to put our very old cat to sleep. Beautiful old building and a real neighbourhood feel to the place. Read Less

I really like Dr. Black.  He's great, and definitely knows his stuff.  I brought my fur baby here and he treated her really well and took care of her boo-boo in no time at all.  His hours aren't great, but he's great, and worth visiting.He's a super genuine, fair, and nice person.  They're lovely here.
