I have been going to see Dr. Ellison for the past year or more with my dogs and I can't say enough about his helpfulness and his research into the issues my dog had. He has gone over and above for my dog Tikka. His patient care and explanation of all the options available have been most appreciated. He talks me through all the tests and test results so that I am making the right informed decisions for my pet. I have referred him to friends and people that I meet and I honestly believe my dog would not be here without Dr. Ellison. I can't thank him enough. Read Less

Avoid this place at all cost. I booked an appointment to put down my pet who was acting up. Destroying everything, meowing all hours of the day and night, and acting violent (he is very old). They insisted on taking my credit card number to secure the appointment but assured me that it would not be charged. I went there with my cat, they took him inside for 4 minutes (I timed it) and then came back to me and said that he "appears to be healthy, it would be unethical to euthanize him". Ok fine, I took him with me. 2 days later, I see a charge on my credit card for over $100. What I would like to understand is: - How 4 mins is the equivalent of $100. Especially when they didn't do anything that I had asked them to and I did not ask for an exam. We take our dog to a different vet and the guy charges $40 for a full exam which takes longer than 4 minutes. - Why my card was charged if I was assured that my credit card was only to secure the appointment. I did not authorize a charge nor was I informed of any charge. It just magically appeared on my statement. What's unethical about this entire situation is how they think that they can use my credit card number this way. What's to stop them from putting another $500 on there tomorrow? May as well, they're probably struggling because of COVID. Read Less

Avoid this place at all cost. I booked an appointment to put down my pet who was acting up. Destroying everything, meowing all hours of the day and night, and acting violent (he is very old). We were always totally happy with the care our dog received at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital (he passed away peacefully several years ago after a long and happy life), so when we were caring for a vacationing friend's cat that seemed to be developing skin issues, it was naturally the first place that came to mind. Praise for Blue Cross Animal Hospital! This is one of the best and most caring Veterinary Clinics in Toronto. I am a student in animal care in Durham College and when I got the call that my Uncle's cat Noir was very sick with a partial prolaped rectum and was in pain and unable to pass any bowel movements, I called the Blue Cross last minute knowing they have a reputable emergency department, and asked to be booked as soon as they could fit me in. Within 2 hours, they were able to take Sweet Noir and help her with several enemas. She's doing much better now, and I really Appreciated all the check in calls to see how the was doing from Blue Cross. Read Less

Dr Eaglesome is the best vet. Our kitty has been coming here since she was a kitten and now she is 6y.o! I love most of the vets working here. Everyone is very caring and diligent. However, the prices have gone up considerably in the last 2-3 years, and I no longer feel as though I am paying a fair price. I am now thinking twice about bringing our animals in for care because there have been a number of times where very little has been delivered but the cost has been ridiculous. I believe that the blame falls on the owners rather than the individual vets. I can see the vets trying to reduce costs for customers where they can. (And I suspect that the owners would be furious if they knew this.) However, there are charges where nothing can be done, like the price for urinalysis for the external lab, or prescriptions. It is getting too expensive to have pets in Toronto. Vet care is the prime reason. We are a couple with two incomes and we are still finding it too costly. My review is for the prices and the change in tone I have perceived with the new higher prices. Again, I love the individual vets. Read Less

I love Blue Cross 💜 first, the front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming. They truly care about pets. They always answer calls promptly and accommodate or squeeze us in anytime we need to pay a visit. I’ve seen the front desk staff listen to the concerns of pet owners even if they were talking about personal stuff. They didn’t try to brush them off like other places normally do to save time. The vets are also very caring and compassionate. They don’t recommend things that your dog doesn’t need unlike other hospitals I’ve seen. I choose Blue Cross because I’m comfortable leaving my dogs under their care. I recommend them to anyone needing vet services. Read Less

My cat Luna is a patient at Blue Cross and my dog Toby was a patient. The staff have always been friendly and compared to other vets, I don't feel as if I'm being gouged or any treatments are being pushed on me. When my dog Toby had to be put to sleep, the vet was extremely kind and compassionate, he gave us our options and ultimately helped us decide that the best option for our elderly sick dog was euthanasia. They gave me husband all the time he needed to say good bye and gave him a private room to sit with Toby after he had passed. They have also always given Luna the best care possible and I recommend them to all my clients. I'm unsure where all these negative reviews are coming from, but I have personally never had a bad experience with them and will continue to bring all future pets to this clinic Read Less

I will start by saying that my dog has been going here for a very long time from checkups to ear infections to being spayed. In the past they have done an exceptional job in servicing my dog candy and i ! Unfortunately today i walked out very unhappy, unimpressed, and angry which was very unexpected. I had an appointment just for an annual checkup nothing crazy at 6:20 coming from eglinton and leslie i was running on time on the dvp until i got off and got stuck on the big co...lorful bridge ! it was bumper to bumper moving so slow that when i arrived at bluecross i was probably 7-10 minute late so 6:30. I walk in the receptionist greets me, weighs candy and tells me to have a seat. After watching two doctors help two customers with their pets before me at 6:58 the receptionist comes over to tell me they can't see candy because i was late and they close at seven and offered to reschedule my appointment. I was so upset and mad i didn't want to take it out on her because it was not her fault so i just said sorry i cant and left. I myself work in the hair industry and this is certainly not how we treat our customers ! I understand that i was late and if they had told me i missed my appointment when i walked in i would've been more than glad to reschedule but certainly not after almost 30 minute of waiting ! Very unprofessional and clearly you guys don't care about my business. As a client i'm giving you guys my business and clearly you guys don't care since you basically kicked me out two minutes before closing and made me wait 30 minutes to tell me you couldn't take me anymore ! I've only had good experiences coming to this vet clinic after going through a few other vets with terrible experiences. Their prices are reasonable, the staff is very professional and friendly and the vets do seem like the truly cared. Had a cat put down there once and they were so kind and so sad for me as well, which really resonated with me. I took my cat to the vet there recently for her outdoor shots and was very well treated and so was my cat. Had her spay there and they did an excellent job, no complaints or any emergencies afterword. They always follow up the next day with a phone call, which is an added bonus and sign they truly care. I do recommend this place to other people because I love it! I like how they make their recommendations but don't push you into buying their products. Read Less

My experience was pleasant with all the specialists at this animal hospital, but my experience with Dr. A Swarney was exceptionally positive. She treated me and my pet as a family member, not as a patient. Incredibly kind and knowledgeable people. They offered us the best care. They performed a number of tests, and immediate care was provided with no appointment made. All it took was a phone call, and they accepted me. After having such a bad and unprofessional and money-hungry experience at the Woodbridge Animal Hospital at Hwy 7 and Martin Grove, it was great to be received so well and to know that there is a good hospital like that where they actually care about animals. They performed a number of lab tests, and provided me with shots and pills for the same price as Woodbridge Animal Hospital charged just for a visit with no tests performed. Avoid Woodbridge Animal Hospital! They are scammers! All it took was one visit, and my pet feels better. 10/10 would go again! I highly recommend anyone who cares about their pet to go to this place! My cat had a tumour in his eye two years ago and is just about the most timid thing on the planet. The vet was incredibly understanding and patient with the him and our decision for the enucleation procedure. The costs, methods, and alternatives were laid out for us on our first visit and we were encouraged to take our time deciding. Every step was taken to try to make him feel better along the way including appropriate post-op medication for what I call the ultimate scaredy-cat. Can't recommend this animal hospital enough. One of the only places that was open the afternoon NYE. We needed to go for an emergency appointment. Can't remember which vet but he had a UK accent and he was so friendly and professional. He could have pushed us to get an IV or xray but all we paid for was consultation and meds at a reasonable price. This place has lost it's care and become a cash grab over the years. I own two dogs and a cat and due to service i had received during my last visit I will be pulling all my pets out of this animal clinic. I feel very ripped off and cheated and not valued. My dog had developed glaucoma in one of her eyes and after seeing a specialist I had decided to have the surgery at my vet (blue cross) because of the savings due to the difference of having a specialist perform the surgery and a normal vet. On the day of the surgery I had taken time off work and brought my dog in for drop off but the tech suddenly felt uncomfortable about performing the surgery because my dog was experiencing a honking cough. They wanted me to leave her for X-rays so that they can figure out what was the problem and whether it was safe to go through with the surgery. Prior to the surgery I was given a high and a low estimate for the surgery. High was if she had to stay for 2 days of stay. I came back that afternoon to pick up my dog and get the results of the X-ray. I found out later that it was the owner/vet that had seen me for this. She told me that it was just a collapse trachea and that it was safe to operate. But I was then faced with the dilemma of losing a day of work to operate the next day. She then gave me the option to leave my dog tonight so I don't need to drop her off again for the charge of ward stay which is roughly $50. And so I paid for the X-rays and left my dog overnight. The next day I waited and waited nervously to hear if everything went smoothly. Finally around late 4pm I got the phone call that everything was good and that she is able to go home. I got there at 6pm. While paying for my bill I noticed it was way more than the Low estimate and only looking closely at my bill did I realize I was billed for 3 hospitalization stays. I brought this to the clerks attention and she went to talk to the vet. She came back and dropped it to 2 nights of hospitalized stay plus a ward stay. I then explained that last night was a ward stay and I should only be billed for at most one ward and one hospital not two because she only stayed for one overnight. They told me that I would have to wait 15 mins to talk to the vet again or they can leave her a message and they will reimburse me next time. So I decided to leave because my dog was shivering and shaken. That night my dog had a reaction to the synthetic opium drug they had prescribed for pain called Tramadol. I spend the whole night researching as she was crying non stop and I couldn't handle it. I read that some owners accidentally kill their dogs because they think it is not working and end up overdosing their dogs. The next day I called back to talk about my bill and the drug and was very rudely addressed by a worker on the phone she basically said in a very aggressive tone "NO YOUR DOG STAYED FOR TWO NIGHTS OF STAY BECAUSE YOU PICKED HER UP LATE IN THE EVENING." I wanted to tell her that I was only called around 4pm almost 5pm. I decided to not fight with her because I wanted a different pain drug for my dog. They wanted me to come pick it up but I live at the other end of the city and wanted them to fax it to a vet closer to me. They took forever. The other vet finally called and told me they are closing in 15 mins which I wouldn't make it in time. I never got the drugs. I was so unhappy with the whole experience that I decided to email the entire ordeal to blue cross, and try to get my money back. I was returned with a "your bill is correct but we will refund your ward stay. However you requested for a prescription fax so we will be deducting that off your refund. You now have $30 credit."I couldn't believe the service. They billed me for 3 nights of stay in different forms when my dog only stayed overnight for one night. And they billed me for faxing a prescription, when they hadn't even told me there would be a fee, also when the drug they gave my dog gave her a reaction, that is known by the online community. There is even a video of a dog crying horribly on YouTube exactly the same way my dog was from Tramadol. I literally went back cashed out the credit on dog food and I'm never going back. I had an excellent experience with Blue Cross Vet with my two terrier dogs Bear and Nala. I moved my dogs to Australia with me and the quarantine was lengthy and very complicated, over 6-months of tests and vaccines and lodging result forms with the government for approval. I could not have done it without the help of Christina McClean. Christina knew exactly what to do every step of the way, and she went well and truly above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly for me. Blue Cross called me with appointment reminders and followed up after treatments. My dogs and I were well looked after, and highly recommend Blue Cross Animal Hospital and Christina for anyone wishing to travel overseas with their beloved! Read Less

I am so happy with this vet. They have seen three of my pets. When my elderly cat was going downhill, the vet was understanding, helpful, and honest about what procedures are reasonable for a old cat. My experience with other vets is that they would try to sell you procedures that are unnecessary / not appropriate. This doesn't happen at Blue Cross! They will counsel you about the procedures and there is never any sales pressure. I also love that there is a separate receptionist for answering the phone, so when you there in person, you don't have to wait for someone to finish with a phone call in order to help you. All around, an excellent vet! Read Less

Every pet owner knows how stressful a visit to the vet can be for their beloved fur children. That's why I was so pleased when the staff at Blue Cross put in extra effort to ensure that my cat felt comfortable during his examination. I was an emotional wreck when I got his diagnosis, but the team did a great job of offering genuine empathy and support. They provided me with advice that I use on a daily basis to maintain my cat's health and I've called in on a few occasions to ask for help, which they are always happy to provide. I have also used their pet boarding service - They took good care of my cat and gave him all his special meals and scheduled medication. At my request, they provided me with a detailed report of everything that happened while he was under their care. The cost is on the higher end - Especially for prescription medications. As a result, I prefer to get the prescriptions refilled elsewhere. However, I will continue to bring my pets here for check-ups as the expertise, service and dedication of the vets, techs and admin staff is worth the money. Read Less

I wouldn't hesitate to go back there again, or to recommend it to anyone else and would definitely consider making it my regular vet clinic. Another plus: FREE nail trim and deworming.Another plus: friendly and interactive with the animals.Minus: $$ I was quoted $78+tx and I ended up with a bill of $132.@# I was charged for a prescription of ear drops "as a precaution".  Plus they gave my very healthy and active puppy one shot of vaccination.  No sticker for his booklet.  I have to go back in three weeks to get one.  And did I mention he hasn't been the same since.  I hope he didn't catch something in that waiting room we were in for 40 minutes before being seen.  :-/ Now to be fair,  they maybe better than many other places and probably cheaper.  I have heard McLean's clinic are close in price and Rexdale animal clinic came highly highly recommended but too far from me. I'm a long time client of the Blue Cross Animal Hospital (20 years) and my pets have always been treated well, but most recently during a crisis with my young dog I reached a new level of gratefulness and appreciation at the level of compassion and professionalism I experienced by the Veterinarians and support staff there. My dog was seriously injured and traumatized, and frankly so was I from 48 hours of searching for him in the wilderness. Regardless, I called them from out of town to say we were on our way and even though we didn't have an appointment they made the time and spent hours taking care of all our needs. When I called the next day to say we'd had a rough night and needed a review and extra support, no problem, they made time and the next night was better. I could not have asked for more from any caring professional and I know I will be seeing more of this team over the next several weeks. If this is the quality of care you wish for your K-9 or feline companion, look no further. Read Less

I have been taking my cats to Blue Cross Animal Hospital for over 20 years! Now we live in Scarborough, but it's worth the trek across town to maintain the trusting relationship that we have established with Dr. Eaglesome. She has taken our cat through some very challenging health issues, and we have emerged victorious! We  recently adopted a retired greyhound - and have taken her to Blue Cross for her check up and shots.  The veterinarian phoned personally to follow up with the blood test results.  My own doctor's office doesn't do this!  I have been recommending Blue Cross to my friends for years. The final straw was when they gave us the wrong medication for our dog which entail if was taken would of caused servere damage or even death with the medications he is on. Over the years I have taken 2 cats and one dog ( see pic) here.  I got my first cat 20+ years ago and made the rounds to many downtown vets before finding Blue Cross and from then on for me it was a no brainer to take my second cat and now my dog here.This may sounds crazy but it's one of the few vet's I've been to where I actually feel like they love animals and even though ownership and vets have changed over the years I have consistently dealt with people who have a down to earth, no-nonsense, straightforward approach. They are caring and humane but do not guilt or pressure you into every test and operation out there which in my opinion is actually not humane. They give you options, and they give their opinion without playing on your emotions.One of my cats and my dog has had to spend some time in the hospital and they called me regularly throughout to give me updates. With my dog,  at 6 months of age she did require an operation as she has an extreme sock fetish. The day after she was not ready to come home yet and was still pretty drugged but they thought she seemed a bit down so they suggested that I come hang out in the back with her for a while to perk her up, which I did. I felt like they would have let me stay all afternoon. I spent a few hours with her and she was given the ok to come home the next morning. Even after that experience, she still gets excited when we go in there, actually as soon as she realizes that we're close by on Danforth. If that's not a ringing endorsement I don't know what is. I have been taking my dogs and cats here for nearly 7 years now and highly recommend the Blue Cross Animal Hospital to anyone who wants excellent health care for their pets at a great price. Dr. Eagelsome & Dr. O'Meara are both amazing, compassionate, straightforward and friendly vets who seem to truly care about the animals they are treating. I always try to book my appointments with either of them because my dogs, who are normally very nervous around strangers, are completely at ease with both of them. The staff at the front desk are also very friendly and great to deal with!I am moving across the city very soon but will still be making the trip to the Blue Cross when ever my pets need veterinary care because I love this clinic so much. I've been a client for two years and my experience has been hit or miss but the misses now outweigh our good experiences.1. Our very first experience was absolutely terrible. The vet only did a cursory examination and merely glanced at her nose, ears and eyes. I did complain via email and it was very promptly addressed. A credit was applied to our account and we were introduced to another vet who did a fantastic job of looking over our puppy. He thoroughly examined her ears, nose, eyes, pubic area, heartbeat (told us she had a heart murmor which was subsequently disputed by other vets at the hospital at subsequent visits ... sigh). But I felt he did what he should have done.2. Her spay was well priced and we didn't have any issues with the surgery or the healing. Well done.3. She reacted adversely to her adult DHPP vaccine and they provided good post-injection support. The next year, she was given a two year DHPP vaccine by a fantastic vet that spent so much time discussing the issue with me and explaining why she was going with a two year vaccine.4. On the most recent visit one year later, the doctor gave her another DHPP vaccine shot instead of her annual rabies shot. I only realized this at the end of the day when reviewing the invoice (my wife had taken her to the vet) and I spoke to the vet and he apologized for his error. Given how poorly she reacted the first time and the care that the vet provided in administering the shot in the second year, I would have expected both the front office staff and the vet to be extremely conscientious in treating her.I've written to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital about my most recent issue and am considering lodging a formal complaint against the Hospital and the vet but will wait for their response. Avoid this place at all cost. I booked an appointment to put down my pet who was acting up. Destroying everything, meowing all hours of the day and night, and acting violent (he is very old). They insisted on taking my credit card number to secure the appointment but assured me that it would not be charged. I went there with my cat, they took him inside for 4 minutes (I timed it) and then came back to me and said that he "appears to be healthy, it would be unethical to euthanize him". Ok fine, I took him with me. 2 days later, I see a charge on my credit card for over $100. What I would like to understand is: - How 4 mins is the equivalent of $100. Especially when they didn't do anything that I had asked them to and I did not ask for an exam. We take our dog to a different vet and the guy charges $40 for a full exam which takes longer than 4 minutes. - Why my card was charged if I was assured that my credit card was only to secure the appointment. I did not authorize a charge nor was I informed of any charge. It just magically appeared on my statement. What's unethical about this entire situation is how they think that they can use my credit card number this way. What's to stop them from putting another $500 on there tomorrow? May as well, they're probably struggling because of COVID. Read Less

I am a student in animal care in Durham College and when I got the call that my Uncle's cat Noir was very sick with a partial prolaped rectum and was in pain and unable to pass any bowel movements, I called the Blue Cross last minute knowing they have a reputable emergency department, and asked to be booked as soon as they could fit me in. Within 2 hours, they were able to take Sweet Noir and help her with several enemas. I love most of the vets working here. Everyone is very caring and diligent. However, the prices have gone up considerably in the last 2-3 years, and I no longer feel as though I am paying a fair price. I am now thinking twice about bringing our animals in for care because there have been a number of times where very little has been delivered but the cost has been ridiculous. I believe that the blame falls on the owners rather than the individual vets. I can see the vets trying to reduce costs for customers where they can. (And I suspect that the owners would be furious if they knew this.) However, there are charges where nothing can be done, like the price for urinalysis for the external lab, or prescriptions. It is getting too expensive to have pets in Toronto. Vet care is the prime reason. We are a couple with two incomes and we are still finding it too costly. My review is for the prices and the change in tone I have perceived with the new higher prices. Again, I love the individual vets. Read Less

I love Blue Cross 💜 first, the front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming. They truly care about pets. They always answer calls promptly and accommodate or squeeze us in anytime we need to pay a visit. I’ve seen the front desk staff listen to the concerns of pet owners even if they were talking about personal stuff. They didn’t try to brush them off like other places normally do to save time. The vets are also very caring and compassionate. They don’t recommend things that your dog doesn’t need unlike other hospitals I’ve seen. I choose Blue Cross because I’m comfortable leaving my dogs under their care. I recommend them to anyone needing vet services. Read Less

My cat Luna is a patient at Blue Cross and my dog Toby was a patient. The staff have always been friendly and compared to other vets, I don't feel as if I'm being gouged or any treatments are being pushed on me. When my dog Toby had to be put to sleep, the vet was extremely kind and compassionate, he gave us our options and ultimately helped us decide that the best option for our elderly sick dog was euthanasia. They gave me husband all the time he needed to say good bye and gave him a private room to sit with Toby after he had passed. They have also always given Luna the best care possible and I recommend them to all my clients. I'm unsure where all these negative reviews are coming from, but I have personally never had a bad experience with them and will continue to bring all future pets to this clinic Read Less

I walk in the receptionist greets me, weighs candy and tells me to have a seat. After watching two doctors help two customers with their pets before me at 6:58 the receptionist comes over to tell me they can't see candy because i was late and they close at seven and offered to reschedule my appointment. I was so upset and mad i didn't want to take it out on her because it was not her fault so i just said sorry i cant and left. I myself work in the hair industry and this is certainly not how we treat our customers ! I understand that i was late and if they had told me i missed my appointment when i walked in i would've been more than glad to reschedule but certainly not after almost 30 minute of waiting ! Very unprofessional and clearly you guys don't care about my business. As a client i'm giving you guys my business and clearly you guys don't care since you basically kicked me out two minutes before closing and made me wait 30 minutes to tell me you couldn't take me anymore ! I've only had good experiences coming to this vet clinic after going through a few other vets with terrible experiences. Their prices are reasonable, the staff is very professional and friendly and the vets do seem like the truly cared. Had a cat put down there once and they were so kind and so sad for me as well, which really resonated with me. I took my cat to the vet there recently for her outdoor shots and was very well treated and so was my cat. Had her spay there and they did an excellent job, no complaints or any emergencies afterword. They always follow up the next day with a phone call, which is an added bonus and sign they truly care. I do recommend this place to other people because I love it! I like how they make their recommendations but don't push you into buying their products. Read Less

My experience was pleasant with all the specialists at this animal hospital, but my experience with Dr. A Swarney was exceptionally positive. She treated me and my pet as a family member, not as a patient. Incredibly kind and knowledgeable people. They offered us the best care. They performed a number of tests, and immediate care was provided with no appointment made. All it took was a phone call, and they accepted me. After having such a bad and unprofessional and money-hungry experience at the Woodbridge Animal Hospital at Hwy 7 and Martin Grove, it was great to be received so well and to know that there is a good hospital like that where they actually care about animals. They performed a number of lab tests, and provided me with shots and pills for the same price as Woodbridge Animal Hospital charged just for a visit with no tests performed. Avoid Woodbridge Animal Hospital! They are scammers! All it took was one visit, and my pet feels better. 10/10 would go again! I highly recommend anyone who cares about their pet to go to this place! My cat had a tumour in his eye two years ago and is just about the most timid thing on the planet. The vet was incredibly understanding and patient with the him and our decision for the enucleation procedure. The costs, methods, and alternatives were laid out for us on our first visit and we were encouraged to take our time deciding. Every step was taken to try to make him feel better along the way including appropriate post-op medication for what I call the ultimate scaredy-cat. Can't recommend this animal hospital enough. This place has lost it's care and become a cash grab over the years. I own two dogs and a cat and due to service i had received during my last visit I will be pulling all my pets out of this animal clinic. I feel very ripped off and cheated and not valued. My dog had developed glaucoma in one of her eyes and after seeing a specialist I had decided to have the surgery at my vet (blue cross) because of the savings due to the difference of having a specialist perform the surgery and a normal vet. On the day of the surgery I had taken time off work and brought my dog in for drop off but the tech suddenly felt uncomfortable about performing the surgery because my dog was experiencing a honking cough. They wanted me to leave her for X-rays so that they can figure out what was the problem and whether it was safe to go through with the surgery. Prior to the surgery I was given a high and a low estimate for the surgery. High was if she had to stay for 2 days of stay. I came back that afternoon to pick up my dog and get the results of the X-ray. I found out later that it was the owner/vet that had seen me for this. She told me that it was just a collapse trachea and that it was safe to operate. But I was then faced with the dilemma of losing a day of work to operate the next day. She then gave me the option to leave my dog tonight so I don't need to drop her off again for the charge of ward stay which is roughly $50. And so I paid for the X-rays and left my dog overnight. The next day I waited and waited nervously to hear if everything went smoothly. Finally around late 4pm I got the phone call that everything was good and that she is able to go home. I got there at 6pm. While paying for my bill I noticed it was way more than the Low estimate and only looking closely at my bill did I realize I was billed for 3 hospitalization stays. I brought this to the clerks attention and she went to talk to the vet. She came back and dropped it to 2 nights of hospitalized stay plus a ward stay. I then explained that last night was a ward stay and I should only be billed for at most one ward and one hospital not two because she only stayed for one overnight. They told me that I would have to wait 15 mins to talk to the vet again or they can leave her a message and they will reimburse me next time. So I decided to leave because my dog was shivering and shaken. That night my dog had a reaction to the synthetic opium drug they had prescribed for pain called Tramadol. I spend the whole night researching as she was crying non stop and I couldn't handle it. I read that some owners accidentally kill their dogs because they think it is not working and end up overdosing their dogs. The next day I called back to talk about my bill and the drug and was very rudely addressed by a worker on the phone she basically said in a very aggressive tone "NO YOUR DOG STAYED FOR TWO NIGHTS OF STAY BECAUSE YOU PICKED HER UP LATE IN THE EVENING." I wanted to tell her that I was only called around 4pm almost 5pm. I decided to not fight with her because I wanted a different pain drug for my dog. They wanted me to come pick it up but I live at the other end of the city and wanted them to fax it to a vet closer to me. They took forever. The other vet finally called and told me they are closing in 15 mins which I wouldn't make it in time. I never got the drugs. I was so unhappy with the whole experience that I decided to email the entire ordeal to blue cross, and try to get my money back. I was returned with a "your bill is correct but we will refund your ward stay. However you requested for a prescription fax so we will be deducting that off your refund. You now have $30 credit."I couldn't believe the service. They billed me for 3 nights of stay in different forms when my dog only stayed overnight for one night. And they billed me for faxing a prescription, when they hadn't even told me there would be a fee, also when the drug they gave my dog gave her a reaction, that is known by the online community. There is even a video of a dog crying horribly on YouTube exactly the same way my dog was from Tramadol. I literally went back cashed out the credit on dog food and I'm never going back. I could not have done it without the help of Christina McClean. Christina knew exactly what to do every step of the way, and she went well and truly above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly for me. When my elderly cat was going downhill, the vet was understanding, helpful, and honest about what procedures are reasonable for a old cat. My experience with other vets is that they would try to sell you procedures that are unnecessary / not appropriate. This doesn't happen at Blue Cross! They will counsel you about the procedures and there is never any sales pressure. I also love that there is a separate receptionist for answering the phone, so when you there in person, you don't have to wait for someone to finish with a phone call in order to help you. Every pet owner knows how stressful a visit to the vet can be for their beloved fur children. That's why I was so pleased when the staff at Blue Cross put in extra effort to ensure that my cat felt comfortable during his examination. I was an emotional wreck when I got his diagnosis, but the team did a great job of offering genuine empathy and support. They provided me with advice that I use on a daily basis to maintain my cat's health and I've called in on a few occasions to ask for help, which they are always happy to provide. I have also used their pet boarding service - They took good care of my cat and gave him all his special meals and scheduled medication. At my request, they provided me with a detailed report of everything that happened while he was under their care. The cost is on the higher end - Especially for prescription medications. As a result, I prefer to get the prescriptions refilled elsewhere. However, I will continue to bring my pets here for check-ups as the expertise, service and dedication of the vets, techs and admin staff is worth the money. Read Less

I'm a long time client of the Blue Cross Animal Hospital (20 years) and my pets have always been treated well, but most recently during a crisis with my young dog I reached a new level of gratefulness and appreciation at the level of compassion and professionalism I experienced by the Veterinarians and support staff there. My dog was seriously injured and traumatized, and frankly so was I from 48 hours of searching for him in the wilderness. Regardless, I called them from out of town to say we were on our way and even though we didn't have an appointment they made the time and spent hours taking care of all our needs. When I called the next day to say we'd had a rough night and needed a review and extra support, no problem, they made time and the next night was better. I could not have asked for more from any caring professional and I know I will be seeing more of this team over the next several weeks. Over the years I have taken 2 cats and one dog ( see pic) here.  I got my first cat 20+ years ago and made the rounds to many downtown vets before finding Blue Cross and from then on for me it was a no brainer to take my second cat and now my dog here.This may sounds crazy but it's one of the few vet's I've been to where I actually feel like they love animals and even though ownership and vets have changed over the years I have consistently dealt with people who have a down to earth, no-nonsense, straightforward approach. They are caring and humane but do not guilt or pressure you into every test and operation out there which in my opinion is actually not humane. They give you options, and they give their opinion without playing on your emotions.One of my cats and my dog has had to spend some time in the hospital and they called me regularly throughout to give me updates. With my dog,  at 6 months of age she did require an operation as she has an extreme sock fetish. The day after she was not ready to come home yet and was still pretty drugged but they thought she seemed a bit down so they suggested that I come hang out in the back with her for a while to perk her up, which I did. I felt like they would have let me stay all afternoon. I spent a few hours with her and she was given the ok to come home the next morning. Even after that experience, she still gets excited when we go in there, actually as soon as she realizes that we're close by on Danforth. If that's not a ringing endorsement I don't know what is. I have been taking my dogs and cats here for nearly 7 years now and highly recommend the Blue Cross Animal Hospital to anyone who wants excellent health care for their pets at a great price. Dr. Eagelsome & Dr. O'Meara are both amazing, compassionate, straightforward and friendly vets who seem to truly care about the animals they are treating. I always try to book my appointments with either of them because my dogs, who are normally very nervous around strangers, are completely at ease with both of them. The staff at the front desk are also very friendly and great to deal with!I am moving across the city very soon but will still be making the trip to the Blue Cross when ever my pets need veterinary care because I love this clinic so much. I've been a client for two years and my experience has been hit or miss but the misses now outweigh our good experiences.1. Our very first experience was absolutely terrible. The vet only did a cursory examination and merely glanced at her nose, ears and eyes. I did complain via email and it was very promptly addressed. A credit was applied to our account and we were introduced to another vet who did a fantastic job of looking over our puppy. He thoroughly examined her ears, nose, eyes, pubic area, heartbeat (told us she had a heart murmor which was subsequently disputed by other vets at the hospital at subsequent visits ... sigh). But I felt he did what he should have done.2. Her spay was well priced and we didn't have any issues with the surgery or the healing. Well done.3. She reacted adversely to her adult DHPP vaccine and they provided good post-injection support. The next year, she was given a two year DHPP vaccine by a fantastic vet that spent so much time discussing the issue with me and explaining why she was going with a two year vaccine.4. On the most recent visit one year later, the doctor gave her another DHPP vaccine shot instead of her annual rabies shot. I only realized this at the end of the day when reviewing the invoice (my wife had taken her to the vet) and I spoke to the vet and he apologized for his error. Given how poorly she reacted the first time and the care that the vet provided in administering the shot in the second year, I would have expected both the front office staff and the vet to be extremely conscientious in treating her.I've written to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital about my most recent issue and am considering lodging a formal complaint against the Hospital and the vet but will wait for their response. I've been going to Blue Cross for years with my dogs even though it's out of the way for me. It's worth the drive. Dr.Tanney (sp?) was a life-saver. Literally. Now Dr.Eaglesome is our vet and she is absolutely wonderful. She is so compassionate and straightforward. Her honesty and integrity really stand out. My dogs drag me in the door to get to her and the rest of the staff, who are amazing. I love these people and wouldn't trust anyone else with my dogs. Read Less
