Dr. Foster (vet) and Tracey (office manager) recommended that my 10-year-old cat have his teeth cleaned again. In email and during appointments, I raised concerns many times about how poorly the cat responded to anaesthetic in the past and how awful he felt after his previous dental cleaning (also with this clinic). I still have my saved email threads with the business about my concerns. They dismissed my concerns and told me everything would be fine. I brought my cat in for his dental cleaning. At first, they said the procedure went well. But the cat then went into congestive heart failure and died, shortly after the procedure. Our cat lost his life at this clinic following a routine procedure the clinic recommended. Read Less

I've had animals in the past go to other clinics and I can assure you that the costs for examination, medication and procedures are all comparable to this clinic. I've never felt like they were gouging us, and they have always told us the breakdown of costs prior to performing any procedure to get our consent. They care so deeply for every animal here and I've never met such an attentive and loving team. Dr. Foster is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to answer every single question you have (even if it's not related to your current visit). My partner and I both agreed that we've never even had our own doctors treat us with such care and we know that our fur ball is being really well taken care of. Read Less

Everyone here was very kind and considerate of my pet. My appointment took place on time and they attended to my cat's problem very quickly. In retrospect, things moved too quickly. My cat was squatting low to the ground to perhaps favour a soar tummy and hadn't had a poop in a few days. Upon being brought to this clinic, he was put through all sorts of tests (expensive!!!) and everything short of exploratory surgery, which I said no to because I could not afford, was done to him. In the end, it turned out that he was extremely constipated and once cleared out and put on a new cat food diet - with fibre, he was fine and has been ever since. SO, all that AND $3500 to find out that I had a constipated cat!!! Is it possible that cleaning out his system and giving him a new cat food and waiting to see how that went could have saved me at least $3000 of that money? After all, when my kid has a soar tummy and hasn't pooped in days, the doctor doesn't start by poking him with needles, ordering a half dozen tests, and suggesting surgery - thank goodness! My thinking: what a money grab! Read Less

I have taken my dog to see Dr. Foster for 7 years and the doctor has always been straight to the point and full of useful information about and for my dog. I've always liked Dr. Foster. However, I have found in recent years that Tracey, the manager, always tries to upsell me on more tests and shots that even Dr Foster himself had deemed unnecessary (I did not notice this in the first few years from Tracey, only the last 2 or 3). Then, if I decline, she has made me feel guilty if I decide to leave something out, which I find totally unfair. My dog is my pet and it is my ultimate decision on what is best for my dog. Not only that, I recently requested a quote for my dog's annual check up and all required shots. This took a week for them to complete. I called to a few other vets and nearly every other one was able to give me a quote while on the phone with me, and most were around 60% of what Davenport Road charges!! It's as though they charge that amount just because they know well-off people live in the area. Well, they seriously need to consider that not everyone is rich living around there. I have switched my vet for my dog at this time. I'm disappointed because it was nice to have a regular place to go to. On a positive note, the vet techs have always been more than friendly. One even used to deliver my sister's cat's medication from time to time. Read Less

Beware...you'll be in there for an hour getting preached to about caring for your pet and you walk out with a huge bill. Very expensive and not forthcoming about what is being done to the pet. You find out when you get your bill. My dog had diarrhea with the tests being negative and somehow it cost me $500. I thought they were being thoughtful when they offered their gastric food as a sample to help my dog's upset tummy and of course they charged me for it! Recently they sent me an email reminding me of another required check-up and shots and when I asked for a breakdown in costs, they said they would send me an estimate and never did. Myself, my partner and our dog are so grateful for all the staff at this clinic. Stacy and another vet tech, who's name excapes me at the moment, are always very flexible. It makes me feel so much better leaving Norie with people that are fond of her and her just as equally excited to spend time with. From a family on a tight budget: you should ignore the 1-star review from the person complaining about money. Yes, DRAH is moderately more expensive, service-for-service, than some other places in the city. But when you factor in everything that makes this place special--their flexibility with timing and appointments, their attentiveness and attention to detail, Dr. Foster's wealth of knowledge, their care with and handling of the animals--it's pretty clear that this place is a steal. We've been with Dr. Foster and DRAH since 2006. During that time, we've experienced nothing but the very best possible care for our animals. We've been through surgeries, emergency visits, dental cleanings, and countless check-ups. We've been through a long process of diagnostics and treatment for a multi-disease cat struggling with chronic gut problems, skin disease, joint issues, diabetes, and... well, you get the picture. At every step of the way, Dr. Foster and his crew have been remarkably attentive, thorough, efficient, caring and, better yet, successful in treating our animals. They've also worked hard to help us care for our animals on a tight budget. We don't bring in six figures, and DRAH is aware of our situation. In the last 8 years, we've never been offered unnecessary treatments or services to plump up our bill. And Dr. Foster has always been sincerely committed to finding treatment plans for our animals that fit within our budget.Taking proper care of your companion animals can be very expensive. That's just the reality. And we'd rather pay a little bit more money for far better service and care. Read Less

Logically, get a male neutered vs. getting a female spayed will cost less. Correct?Well, any reasonable person would think so.  Not this clinic.I spayed my girl cat in 2007, at a vet clinic near Bloorcourt village. A much more invasive procedure comes with the price tag.  My tip money for two weeks went to the $250 dollar vet bill for second shots and spaying. This is normal, anaesthesia, cutting in, maneuvering a small feline body to do an ovariohysterectomy = money!I took my baby boy cat to the Davenport Rd Vet Clinic in 2010.  I asked for a quote for the neutering, as I realized the prices may be high (considering the first consultation cost $170 unexpected dollars). What was the quote? $500.CRAZY!Do not go here. The care and customer service do not equate to that kind of bill, I don't care how much you love your pet.  The prices are probably high due to location.  Annex, Forest Hill, Yorkville, in the clinic's backyard.  Unfortunately, I am not a doctor making 6 digits.I love my guys, but I found a nicer vet, for a much more reasonable price, in the exact same area. This place just feels like a rip off. Read Less

I had always heard wonderful things of this vet over the past 20 years from good family friends but never had a chance to try out DRAH until I moved into the neighborhood. Myself, my partner and our dog are so grateful for all the staff at this clinic. They have gone above and beyond any expectations you could ever ask for at a vets.I drop my girl, Norie, off there most Fridays to have a medicated bath. Stacy and another vet tech, who's name excapes me at the moment, are always very flexible. It makes me feel so much better leaving Norie with people that are fond of her and her just as equally excited to spend time with. Norie loves her time at DRAH and not only my family but also our friends families think you should try them out! Thanks for everything Davenport Road Animal Hospital, see you next Friday. Read Less

I have been taking my cat to Davenport Road Animal Hospital for 7 yrs.  I find that most online complaints about Drs, hotels etc usually come down to money.  In this case, fees aside, I find Dr Foster to be the best vet I have ever taken my pets to.  Far better than the 2 vets I had before when I Iived in other areas of the city.  I have to move out of the country in 2 yrs and only hope I can find a vet as good as Dr Foster in my new location.  If you want excellent care for your pet see Dr. Foster.  If you want to save money and potentially risk your pet's health find a vet with lower fees.
