Dr Neely is fantastic! Our maltese/bichon mix Milo has been experiencing a lot of skin issues (itchy/swollen eyelids, chewing at paws, etc) over 6 months that three previous vets couldn't pinpoint the cause of, and that had forced us to keep him wearing a cone almost 24 hours a day. Heather was patient, kind, and listened to every data point we could think of in order to get a comprehensive view of the situation. She identified that he's experiencing allergies and not only found us a medication that cleared all the symptoms almost immediately, but also recommended dietary and environment changes, and referred us to a place to do allergy testing. Heather has been so helpful, very responsive, and clearly really cares about the pets in her clinic. Thank you, Heather! Read Less

Usually I hate going to the vet. It's expensive, worrisome, and stressful for your pet. But at Davisville Park Animal Hospital, I've had nothing but good experiences (mind you, my kitten is fairly healthy). The main veterinarian is an absolute delight. He's conscientious about people spending outlandish amounts on tests and remedies, and so he is always suggesting a plan of action - from what you can do at home to determine if there's a problem, and as a last resort, outlining what the more expensive procedures and tests will be. I've always felt welcome at this clinic and well-taken care of. Would highly recommend! Read Less

We love Davisville Park Animal Hospital. We've been bringing our mini Labradoodle there since she was a pup and have only positive things to say about them. Our puppy who is now 7 months, loves going there because she gets huge, warm greetings from the very friendly and approachable staff. You can really feel the genuine love they have for animals. I could not be more happier with Dr. Steve Avery and his staff. Our pup just had her puppy teeth extracted and I felt so comfortable knowing she was in great hands. I love how they do a follow up call the next day after any visit to make sure everything is okay. I'am grateful and blessed that our pup is in such great hands! Read Less

I began taking my dog and cat to this Dr. Steve Avery's clinic soon after he opened his doors for business in the Mt. Pleasant and Davisville area. It's now been about 5 years and there are so many reasons why I trust him with caring for my pets! I left my other vet after about 15 years going there because Dr. Avery manages his clinic not only as a business (as it's understood he is entitled to operate a profitable business) but he also truly cares for our pets! Dr. Avery discourages unnecessary costly tests or treatments and encourages non-intrusive treatments and natural remedies as much as possible! For example, for a year my dog showed signs with yelping from intermittent lower back pain for about a year at the age of 8 which at the time, Dr. Avery suggested that, for an otherwise very healthy and active mini-poodle in perfect weight (form), the pain was likely due to a pinched nerve. If that was the case, he said an MRI would serve no purpose as it wouldn't show such a problem. We did do x-rays to make sure there were no bone deformities (and there were none...not even any arthritis signs). So he recommended a natural Glucosamine along with a natural regularly injected substance call Cartorphen instead of chemical medications to try in case there was minimal arthritis causing this problem. When that didn't help, he recommended a very gentle human-used medication called Gabapentin. But that did not help. During this period of time, I consulted a holsitic/integrated vet to help my dog and Dr. Avery was more than glad to communicate with this holistic vet. Dr. Avery is also always willing to learn new information about new approaches to treatment or pet management and assess the possibilities of non-standard veterinarian pet health management that I may learn from other sources. By a year into it, my poor little dog's femur dislocated from her hip (which meant that the intermittent pain she had for a year was due to a microscopic misalignment of her femur in her hip joint that didn't show up in the x-ray). But with surgery, she's been totally fine since (almost 2 years now)!! Point being, Dr. Avery didn't rush to have me spend large amounts of money for an MRI when he didn't think it would provide any useful information or unnecessary treatments. Also, for all his services, his price compared to my last vet and a couple of others is often 1/2 of what the others charge. I can go on and on ...of how Dr. Avery is a caring, competent veterinarian. I wouldn't take my dog and cat to any other veterinarian! Read Less

Unlike may "competitors" they will not ever be frivolous with your pets health or your money. Always willing to answer questions and thoroughly explain. You will always leave there confident and secure in their abilities to care for your pets and your knowledge of how to keep your "kids" is the best of health. Wish I could give 10 stars!! I had an excellent experience at this vet clinic! Everyone was extremely friendly to myself and my cat. My cat had an infected wound on his hind leg. He was showing no serious signs of infection, but his leg was swollen, slightly tender and a bit red. I had taken him to the vet down the street in which was a big mistake as they were rude and unhelpful. Anyways, once I arrived here, the vet was extremely honest, performed the exact procedures that I asked and did the best she could to help heal the infection within my budget range. In addition, they were very nice with allowing me to be in the examination room and they also were amazing with interacting with my cat. They offered him treats to stay still and gave him a mild sedative medication to help with pain. When I came to pick my cat up he was purring and looked happy (mind you he was probably a little high from the medication but still). Overall, excellent service and I am very happy to have found this vet! Read Less

I quite like Davisville Park Animal Hospital. All staff are very professional and caring. It is evident that they care deeply for dogs and cats. I especially like that all procedures and/or tests are clearly explained and various options provided (pros and cons). I have never felt pressured to 'have to' do something without a clear understanding. It is evident that Dr. Avery truly cares for the animals he treats. I have never felt that my dog or cat are just a number, and I have never felt rushed. The location is great and just what the area needed. I have no hesitation in recommending Davisville Park Animal Hospital to anyone who is looking for a professional, dedicated and caring animal clinic. Read Less

We've been seen by Dr. Avery several times, and once by Dr. Norwich. Each experience was excellent. Both these Drs go well above expectations. It is very clear that Dr. Avery has selected the right career for himself. He's fantastic at all aspects of his job, and that includes being extremely gentle and calming with a nervous cat and also with a very nervous new cat owner. His diagnosis and treatment of my cat's skin issue was bang on. He even called me a couple of weeks later to see how we were doing. As for Dr. Norwich, when we saw her, we were there for a specific vaccination, but she took the time to review our entire file and follow up with me on the issues from our previous visits. I really appreciated that. She also was able to make my cat completely at ease with her. I just totally trust this team. The front end staff are also very good both in person and on the telephone. I took in our 18 month old Silver Labrador Blue for a second opinion on an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury since we had received multiple conflicting opinions from our previous veterinary clinic.  Dr. Stephen Avery took nearly an hour and did a thorough exam and carefully explained both the surgical and non-surgical alternatives and potential outcomes.  For now we are going to go with the non-surgical approach since it appears to be only a partial tear and Blue is relatively young.  This will include anti-inflammatories, Glucosamine supplements and movement restrictions in the near term.  He even referred us to a canine physiotherapy clinic with a good record with these types of injuries.   Well it's been 2 months now and Blue is just fine.  We have continued the anti-inflammatories, Glucosamine supplements and movement restrictions and he seems to have completely recovered.  I am sure he will never have full range of motion in that knee and he will always favor the other one when he sits but that is what would have happened even with the $3000 surgery.  I will NEVER take my boys to any vet in Toronto OTHER THAN Dr. Stephen Avery.  He is our hero! After disappointing experiences with three different vet hospitals over the past couple of years I am pleased our search is finally over. Dr. Avery is an excellent communicator - extremely patient, straight-forward with his advice and sincerely interested in our dogs. The clinic's decor is fresh and clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. I feel confident our young dog and our old-timer will not be over-medicated on the one hand, nor neglected on the other. The Veterinarians and staff are Gold Standard. They are not only highly skilled and knowledgeable but also caring and compassionate. They do what they do for the love of the animals in their care.

Unlike several other vets we've dealt with, Dr. Avery conscientiously advises based on the pets' needs, not the needs of his bottom line. Read Less
