My dog died due to an extraordinarily basic error at Dundas West Animal Hospital. This is neither an exaggeration nor a terrible joke. I wish it was. During a dental cleaning appointment, Dundas West Animal Hospital failed to connect the oxygen tube to the anesthesia machine which resulted in my healthy dog going in to cardiac arrest and suffering severe brain damage. This is a careless and 100% avoidable mistake that cost my dog his life. I had to have him euthanized 24 hours later. Just because the clinic gets some press doesn't mean they don't make life-changing careless mistakes. I thought you should know this since they are one of your top 3 Animal Hospitals. you can see my google review and DWAH response where in they admit responsibility. https://goo.gl/maps/nqe5KWWusk9EivsJ7 Read Less

Quite simply, this is the best animal clinic I've used. As someone who is familiar with healthcare systems, I understand the importance of continuity of care. Realistically though, I've moved several times, which means I've tried at least four clinics across Ontario and Quebec. Although one of those clinics provides comparable medical care, the customer service at Queen West is unparalleled. As others have mentioned, their prices are reasonable and the staff do not pressure or shame pet owners. My commute to the clinic ranges from half an hour to four hours depending on my primary residence, but given my dog's recent diagnosis I find every minute worth it. Since she is asymptomatic, I was shocked by both the diagnosis and the rapid progression of her illness and it took me some time to formulate proper questions. Despite my incessant phone calls, the staff remained incredibly patient, accessible, and informative. The clinic has expanded significantly since I first began using their services nine years ago, but their commitment to quality and customer service is unchanged. I realize that people have busy schedules and that long delays for scheduled appointments can be frustrating. However, if me or my dog had a complex condition that unexpectedly required extra time, I would hope that the doctor or vet would still provide the medical attention needed. Read Less

We love Dundas W animal Hospital, the staff are all beyond friendly. Service is amazing, they call back in a few days to check in on things, and best of all they can run some tests in house instead of sending them to lab (not for everything though) but it's nice to know that for certain testing you don't have to wait a few days to get an answer. They've reffered us to amazing oncologists, without them I don't know where we would be. Thank you for providing top notch veterinary services for dogs and cats, something that is not found easily. I love knowing that my dog can get state of the art medical care when needed. ❤️ Read Less

Dr Scott Bainbridge is utterly amazing. I did a merry and greet with him first and he sat on the floor to get to know my puppy and then proceeded to tell me all the things I needed to know about Yorkie care! That made my choice easy. I quickly found out my Yorkie has a liver disease when she was tested in preparation for her getting fixed - a recommendation that likely added years to my dogs life as I have been able to be proactive in managing her disease. He was incredibly supportive and rational. He helped me decide what things were valuable to do for both testing and ongoing care. There is no pushing unnecessary drugs, tests or treatments on me which is so appreciated. When my dog is not well, I call and can talk to any of the vets on duty either right away or within a short time frame to determine if she needs to come in. They are always right in their decision as well. They also don't charge me for things I've seen others charge for. Not saying they are cheap but none are.. Especially not when they are good. They just don't make you spend money unnecessarily. My pup is 4 years old now and continues to get amazing care. I continue to get amazing advice and support from Dr. Bainbridge. Read Less

I've been going to vets and researching vets for my three cats for over 20 years.  This is, the best, hands down vet I've never been to. They are very accommodating and genuine. They let me wait in an examination room so my cat wouldn't freak out about the dogs in the main waiting room. The price is reasonable considering the exquisite care. Worst vet I have ever been to. Dog had an ear infection and they prescribed an ear drop which needs to be put in twice a day for a week. My dogs ear is already in pain and sensitive and it traumatizes him every time to put in the drops. And it makes me extremely difficult to put it in. After a few days of unsuccessful administration of ear drops, I went in to ask what else could be done. I was told I could buy another medication which is just as effective that only needs to be put in once a week for two weeks. WHAT?! Why did they not offer that the first time. It was also the same price. And the way they handled my dog was very rough even though he was already in so much pain. Read Less

I took my cat in recently and found the visit to be infuriating. The vet gave off a strong impression that billing as many tests as possible was more important that explaining the potential reasons for my cats symptoms. I paid almost $100 and received no advice, other than a list of possible exams I could pay for. I was not told why the testing was necessary or advisable, nor given an explanation of the probability of the different outcomes, not advised what the results of the tests might tell us, or whether the potential issues are even treatable. I inquired specifically about what one of the suggested tests, (that ranged in the $200 mark), would tell us and how if knowing the results would define next steps and I was told simply "I'll get into the details when the results are in". The vagueness and opacity of the answer astounded me. When I bring an animal to a vets office I expect that I am paying for the vet's expertise and education, which I will do gladly. Instead the vet defaulted to quoting test options without bothering to explain the value or provide any insight into potential causes of my cats symptoms and whether the causes are even treatable. I'm not interested in testing for the sake of testing if either way the results could not be treated and I was given the impression this was the vets objective. Overall it was a very negative experience and I left feeling totally ripped off. I understand you have a lovely shiny facility and therefore significant overhead costs but I'd rather deal with a more humble office with professionals that are honest and informative rather than fear mongering in nature. I have brought my two cats, Rusty and Ruby, to Dundas West Animal Hospital for about 3 months now. I have been really pleased with the clinic, particularly with their follow up - ie. calling after an appointment to make sure medication is working. Yesterday I was especially impressed when I took my cat in to be spayed. I left a few questions for the vet, and Dr. Lizete actually took the time to call me and answer the questions! She also called after the spay to share the results (they were checking for a polyp). Also the Vet Techs and office staff are excellent, which is important. They are very friendly, and take the time to answer questions. And they obviously love animals! Most recently I've been impressed with Zoe, Natalie and Stephanie, but all the staff are great. I do wish the prices were a bit less....but I'd say the after-care you get is worth the money! Read Less

Our dog, Lola, is people and dog reactive. I can't say enough about how accommodating the team at DWAH are and how much it helps to reduce both her stress and ours. This includes reserving the largest room for us, reducing the total amount of time Lola had to spend in the clinic by having Dr. Valdmanis chat with us and take history before bringing her in, and being very patient with our protocols until Lola was ready for her bloodwork. It makes a huge difference for us and for Lola's quality of life for the week following her appointment. Read Less

Thought it was high time to give the folks at Dundas West a review. Our 2 year old dog has been through quite the ordeal over the past 7 months. He's been going to Dundas West since we first got him and when last spring he had a ranula caused by a stick puncture wound from playing fetch we became in regular contact with the hospital. Though we needed a surgeon and were referred to another clinic for the possible operation it was Dr. Lane at Dundas West who followed up time and again checking on our pooch. She spent an extraordinary amount of time reviewing the case for us and ensuring we were following all the proper steps. Her expertise, friendly demeanor and most of all her care for our pup was truly appreciated and above our expectations. We've had the pleasure of seeing much of the staff here throughout the two years and can not compliment them enough and thank them for their continued care. I highly recommend Dundas West Animal Hospital. Read Less

I have twice told them that their course of treatment weren't working for my pet. If there was an award for most unscrupulous veterinarian of the decade, it would go to Toronto vet Scott Bainbridge. When you step in here, you're not paying for animal care - your buying into a marketing plan.Over the years, Bainbridge has set out to position himself as Toronto's leading expert on animal care and come across as a celebrity vet.By appearing in many local media outlets, he's managed to manufacture artificial trust and familiarity among pet owners and uses this to......that's right - charge DOUBLE what other highly-skilled and qualified vets in Toronto would charge you. Here's a run-down of what you can expect when you get into the hospital for the pre-exam:Scott will essentially run a shell game recommending a huge spate of safety precautions  he and his team need to take and run your bill right up fast.I took my cat in for what was a diagnosed hernia and yet, he insisted with an insistence on endless "testing" - that's where the big money's at in the vet game, I guess, as it's least time-consuming and light on resources. When I took my cat to another vet, she quickly assured me it was really just a hernia (fatty deposit hernia - rare) and proceeded to correct the situation very well, for half of what Bainbridge had offered. Finally I took my cat elsewhere for surgery, as I could clearly see during the exam that Scott doesn't care about my pet or my feelings regarding her issues. FREE TIP: If he says "now I'm going to do this..." ask him how much he'll charge you for it. Seriously, when I left the clinic, I was shocked at the audacious charges he racked up - $380 for a routine check-up that would have run me a whole lot less elsewhere. It really is too bad that there are some vets that have no qualms about trying to manipulate you when you're in a emotionally stressed state.Worst of all, it turns out one of my former co-workers went through the same story, and I remember her telling it, but I failed to retain Bainbridge's name, which would have saved me a lot of time and money. Now, if you're the type of person who gets off on paying double or triple the market rate because it boosts your ego, go right ahead and give your money to Bainbridge. However, if you sincerely love your pet and have a general affection for animals, you're not in the right place at the Dundas West Animal Hospital. When I got my very first dog, I did a lot of research regarding various veterinary clinics in the West end of the city and based on recommendations I read, I chose Roncy Village Vet Clinic.  My dog is now 15 months old and I have been very happy with the team here, everyone is always so caring & loving towards my dog.  I have needed a fair amount of advice and have a lot of dumb questions sometimes and they have always been professional answering all of my questions and concerns about my dog's health.  It really is very reassuring to have a team of vets that I can trust and knowing that they will always be there to take care of my puppy (who is very big in size, but still a puppy at heart). There is free street parking very close, paid street parking right out front the door, and it's quite convenient to get to by car or streetcar. A year ago our dog tested positive for Lyme disease, with lab results ordered through this clinic by Scott Bainbridge at our insistence. At that time he told us he did not want to order the test as Lyme disease is non existent in Toronto. The test came back from the Lab with a resounding positive and the side effects of the lyme were cleared up within 2 days of doxycycline treatment (and a further 30-45 days to take down antigen levels). Unfortunately there have been a couple subsequent flare ups since and each time I have had to fight tooth and nail to have the correct treatment prescribed. On our last visit  (05/06/14) this vet refused treatment again suggesting the arthritis like joint pain was more likely a torn ACL than Lyme. When pressed as to why he refused to script for Lyme, we were told he did not believe our dog had Lyme as there were no cases of Lyme in Toronto (or Ontario for that matter) and he could become quite famous and write a paper on it if it were indeed the case. THIS IS WITH A POSITIVE LYME DISEASE TEST LAB RESULT IN HER FILE!Needless to say we have transferred care to another clinic where her lyme disease can be properly managed in a timely manner..FYI Bainbridge's former partner at the clinic (before the split in the veterinary practice) completed his masters thesis on Lyme Disease...I'm quite at a loss as to how the staff at Dundas West Clinic can continue to deny the existence of lyme disease existence in Toronto.   That's a shockingly poor level of care.when quick diagnosis and treatment is key to keeping the damage of the disease at a minimum. Picked this vet since they have great hours (open til 8pm on weekdays, open Sat), easy to get an appointment, and near downtown (cat used to be in the suburbs, with family).  Nice website too (that's how I found them...google) Brought my cat there since he was newly-diagnosed with diabetes but previous vet was too far away to bring to frequent apptmts.  Reception staff & vet assistant seemed professional and helpful. Dr. Folosea was thorough (good physical exam of the cat), informative, and pretty abreast of current vet literature on feline diabetes (I am a physician, so I understand the importance of staying current).  Much more so than my cat's previous vet.  Also, UNLIKE previous vet, this vet didn't push unnecessary expensive tests, push expensive prescription-brand food (just mentioned it was an option...but not pushy), nor unnecessarily-frequent followup visits. Overall, I didn't feel rushed at all...and vet explained all aspects of feline diabetes well (eg. diet changes, advantages of certain insulin over others, diabetes complications and their presentation in cats, etc). Vet tech also helpful in showing how to easily check cat sugars myself (since I told them I preferred to check blood glucose at home, instead of bringing cat in each time we wanted to titrate insulin dose).I think this office demonstrated good rapport, knowledge, empathetic staff, modern waiting room, and free street parking (as long as not during rush hour..even then, there's Green P parking close by across the street).  I don't do that many reviews, but figured it was worthwhile to spend a few minutes to write this (since pets are often important to their owners, and hard to find thorough vets that don't charge unnecessarily).I plan to bring my cat back here. When I first got my kitten, I was a little hesitant to go to Dundas West Animal hospital because although they're in my neighbourhood, they seemed like a high-end, pricy animal hospital, and I'm a student who needs to save money. My friends at work insisted I bring my cat here because they took care of one of my friend's cat when the cat had a health emergency, and they facilitated the adoptions of the kittens of another friend's cat.Being a first time cat owner, I booked Tobias' first appointment too soon after I adopted him, and it was still too early for his second set of shots. The technician told me he would waive the check-up fee the next time I went in, so that I wouldn't have to pay again when I brought Tobias back for his shots. I thought that that was nice of them and it helped me trust that they wouldn't charge me for unnecessary things. The staff is very professional and friendly, and Tobias is happy and healthy, so I can't ask for more. I definitely recommend Dundas West Animal Hospital. Read Less

Read Less

Bainbridge. Read Less

After a few days of unsuccessful administration of ear drops, I went in to ask what else could be done. I was told I could buy another medication which is just as effective that only needs to be put in once a week for two weeks. WHAT?! Why did they not offer that the first time. I came here today after discovering a lump on my dog's chest--a pretty nerve wracking situation that had me facing a lot of inner turmoil. Thankfully it turned out to be lipoma, and pup is fine. (phew!) The service here was really fantastic though, and definitely put my mind at ease through the entire process. They were able to get me in the same morning I called to see Dr. Ferguson, and once I was there I was met with a pristine, clean, friendly environment. All the staff I encountered are super nice, attentive, and seem to truly love their job and the animals they work with. My dog is pretty timid when at the vet, and they were incredibly understanding, kind, and patient with him, and answered many of my questions before they even escaped my mouth. All in all, this is the kind of vet you want to take your dog to, because they truly do seem to care about you and your pet's well being. Read Less

Dr. Mark and the team at Roncy have been my dog's primary vet for the last 7 years.  They have been absolutely fantastic.  Our dog has animal aggression issues and they always make a special effort to ensure our visits are painless. They always follow up with phone calls to make sure the treatment is going well, and have never recommended any unecessary procedures. My only complaint is now that we are moving out of the city, they can't come with us.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Roncy to anyone looking for a great vet. Read Less

Had a nice experience there when our dog got her bladder stone removed.  My dog HATES going to the vet.  At any moment, she will run to the door.  The technicians/vet tried their best to make her feel ok and relaxed.  Even the girls at the front desk would give her kisses.  Really nice.  They would also call me at home after the surgery to make sure that she was ok.  As well as acknowledge any pictures sent via email.  When we found that there was a stone, our surgery was booked for the next morning to take it out!  I really appreciate that they jumped quickly to "fix" my dog.  I'll definitely recommend this place. Everyone here is obviously an animal lover - they're so good to my kittens (Ruthie & Harry). While they may seem a little pricier than other clinics for spay and neuter, they're one of the only clinics offering laparoscopic surgeries for female cats which are much less invasive- well worth the cost for true cat lovers. They are also very patient, offering suggestions and ideas on how to deal with various kitty challenges. Conveniently located on the 504 streetcar path, close to street parking and Dundas W subway station. I believe they also do fostering for pets when their owners are away and one of their staff members runs a pet sitting service- great for that added convenience. Highly recommend!! Read Less

When the vet tech tried to talk to me about their own probiotic, I told her I wasn't interested in that brand, and she said no more. As for their prices, they are about the same as any good vet in Toronto, no more, no less. I am very happy I switched to this vet, and most of all I am very happy that they titre test, rather than routinely vaccinate. Read Less

This place isn't my favourite but it's the closest option that I have, seeing as I don't have a car, live in the area, and rely on public transit to get my cats to the vet. They do a good job and I feel like my pets get good care, but I cannot get over how much I feel overcharged for their services. Not only that, I greatly dislike how much of an up-sell they will do on you to try to get you to buy more things. After my appointment I get an email, asking how things are going with the pet. I have twice told them that their course of treatment weren't working for my pet. It took a few weeks to get a response back from them after that - not sure if they expect people to say everything is good? They give decent care, just try to avoid buying into additional things...
