Dr. Bureau is a wonderful veterinarian, and I have had many visits/opportunities on which I base my review.
My beloved cat of 13 years was diagnosed with aggressive mouth cancer. I was heartbroken. Dr. Bureau provided me with several treatment options, but was very frank about how much time I could possibly be buying. I decided to have her put down, because the cancer was already blocking most of my cat's throat, and she wasn't able to eat anymore, only licking the juices from the canned food. She already lost weight.
The day I put her down, Dr. Bureau saw how upset I was and was very patient, giving me the time I needed, and again, offering a temporary solution to keep her a little bit longer. I decided I couldn't prolong my cat's suffering, so I had her put down. Dr. Bureau prepped my cat and then came to get me, to allow me to be with her during her final moments. When it over, Dr. Bureau patiently stood by and allowed me to cry and cry.
Dr. Bureau went over and above for my dog as well. During the time my cat was being diagnosed/tested, my dog was also being tested for cancer for a growth on her behind. Everything was happening at the same time, and DESPITE having pet insurance for the dog (because I was only going to be covered if the growth tested positive...read between the lines of your polices, people), Dr. Bureau was kind enough to lower the prices of some items, as costs were quickly rising for the cat and dog.
On another occasion, my dog was suffering through a bought of diarrhea (about one week). When I called in, Dr. Bureau was out of country, so I left a message for her to call me back when she was back in the country. I received a call that same day and Dr. Bureau arranged to have some medication ready for me to be picked up the next day. I took the dog in to see her when she returned and made payment for the medication at that time.
A few months after my cat passed away, I adopted a stray kitten. The neutering went well without any complications. Just under the two year mark of my new cat, he became ill with (I didn't know this at the time, but did some online research) a urinary infection/blockage, which is fatal for male cats. I called the vet on a Friday night at 10:00 p.m. fully expecting to leave a message on voicemail. I was surprised when Dr. Bureau picked up the phone. We made an appointment for first thing the next day. The next morning, my cat was listless, not moving, just his eyes. I quickly put him in his crate and raced down to the appointment earlier than for what it was scheduled. I entered the clinic in tears, explained to the receptionist that something was really wrong with my cat. The receptionist made a call and Dr. Bureau came right over (she wasn't in the office yet). She made a quick assessment, gave me a couple of treatment options based on whether she could unblock him herself, but prepared me to take him to the emergency vet clinic in the event that she couldn't. Thankfully, she managed to unblock him and she managed to save him. He was in very bad condition infection wise, and we just managed to get him on time. He was kept a couple of nights on watch, flushed with IV and antibiotics. As you can imagine, expenses were rising, but again, Dr. Bureau worked with me and helped me a bit on the pricing.
Since then, my dog has gone in for another surgery to remove a growth from in her ear and on her leg. Again, surgery went smoothly.
I also adopted another cat from THS. She was a bit a of a mess health wise. Dr. Bureau was able to determine that was she was allergic to the type of prescription food she was on, which was making her ears bald. We changed up the food, still prescription, and voila...the fur on her ears grew back.
I have 100% trust in Dr. Bureau with my animals, which I love dearly. I honestly don't understand the bad reviews. That certainly hasn't been my experience. Read Less
