While experiencing a terrible tragedy I felt as though Ringo and I were surrounded by angels. My sweet little guy passed away suddenly in emergency surgery the other day. His illness was quick and his death was unexpected. From the moment I walked into FSAH with my very unwell Ringo until the very end BOTH of us were in empathetic, kind hands. Thankyou Kim for ensuring Ringo received the best of care. Thankyou Jevona for treating Ringo like he was your own from the moment you met him. Thankyou so much Dr.Murel for trying to help him as quickly as possible as well as doing everything you could to help him but mostly thankyou for ensuring his last bit of time here was in your teams comforting arms and pain free. Thankyou Brittany for being so helpful and kind from the moment we spoke on the phone and for holding space for me as I cried later. I really appreciate you letting me know he had a very peaceful look on his face when he passed. The lovely lady that was thoughtful enough to leave me with some stamped paw prints and tiny memory bottle of his fur, bless your thoughtful heart and thank you. Support this team! They’re awesome. STAY AWAY!Trust your animal's instincts!  My nomally happy-go-lucky Golden cringed getting out of the car, pulled back at the door and I ended up waiting outside for my appointment.  My vet, however, is wonderful but the staff, the hospital and the disorganization, as well as the fact that it is not clean, they mix things up, do not let you know about things that have been ordered arriving, claim they did..(not in this digital age guys!)  I could go on..  And on top of it all, remember, the place is dirty. It is dilema.  Another of my dogs has previously been so traumatized by one of the staff that picking up a soft brush for another dog sends her into hiding for hours.  But I love the vet. This organization will never meet the standards of 'FearFree' or AAHA.FIND ANOTHER VET PRACTICE. I have been taking my cat here for 2 years (since we moved here). He's been well taken care of. I like that I can call and text with lots of questions about Jack, and they get back to me with an answer from the vet. I was worried about my cat when I took him home after having several teeth removed, so I asked like 6 questions over text message. They answered all of them and I felt better. And my cat was fine anyways so I didn't need to worry! I also like that they have a web store, that's convenient. I also like their responsiveness, I can usually get a same day appointment, which has helped when I've been worried about something, and didn't want to have to take him to the emergency vet, which is further away and more expensive. DO NOT COME HERE. Waste of money. I recently bought a puppy and brought him to this vet. Initially, the staff were friendly and even provided a welcome package which was very thoughtful. Our first visit with a new dog cost us $300+ and second $350+. For our second visit which was supposed to just be a booster shot, they charged for a "final puppy exam" in which they just took my dog's temperature and then SEPARATELY charged us for a "ear swab" since my dog had an ear infection. We also quickly realized friends were paying less than $100 on their visits with their new puppies at other places for the same services and shots. For example, neutering alone, this vet charges $492. Others have quoted less than $300 for neutering. We ended up changing vets and went for another check up (which they checked their ears) and including the medicine came out to under $100. The new vet also told us we didn't need blood work, which this place charged us $140 for then said they needed to do it again for $100 just to make sure an issue was OK which they had originally said not to worry about when the results came back. In terms of the service, the doctors were friendly but visits felt rushed and nurses weren't proactive to help. When they told us that my dog needed ear medication, there were no attempts to help us understand how to best apply it / hold him etc. They simply said put some in twice a day. I'll definitely NOT be coming back to this place. Read Less

Have been with them for 2 years and always have felt uncomfortable, ending the relationship now. Go in for a dog's sore paw and get pushed on a slew of vaccines, tick medication (of which you need to buy two because they won't supply the single medication that covers all fleas and ticks), pain meds, blood work and more. $91 dollars to hear "Nothing you can do but keep him off his leg". This is by far the worst place I've taken my dog. The receptionist was extremely rude on the phone & on our arrival saying "oh, I remember you on the phone" with a snotty attitude. The vet was extremely careless.. On the check up she didn't bother to look at his teeth & barely looked at his ears.. Just touched them & said he's perfectly healthy after I told her about my concerns of his ears sudden smell. My initial visit was because my dogs paws have been badly infected for a while he's been in medications twice before which were both very expensive & both didn't work. She was extremely careless, when I asked her what the problem could be and why he's not getting better get answer was "I don't know, best bet is to try ANOTHER antibiotic & anti-inflammatory, they are more on the expensive side but these are stronger than the last ones".. She doubled the dosage which doubled the price.. She was right, very expensive..but not effective at all. I also needed them to cut his nails because I wasn't comfortable doing it with his paws in pain. First thing she said is she needs to bring him to the back & I told her I wasn't comfortable with that & I wanted to be there. Her reaction was scary. She was just staring at me for a couple of seconds, then walked out & got her assistant. Her assistant was holding my dog as she was cutting my dogs nails. She was very aggressive with him & cut too deep into his vain on his infected paw. For the record, she barely took any length off his nails. He way very scared & in a lot if pain. I wouldn't recommend ANYONE to go to that woman with a sick pet. She does not care one bit. The only sweet girl that was there was the assistant that was there when his nails were being trimmed. She was very gentle & caring with my dog. Read Less

We've been going to Front Street Animal Hospital for years and with 4 different pets so far. They are incredibly compassionate and organized. (My previous vet lost one of my pets files with his complete history.) Front Street Animal Hospital also has another location on Euclid and Dundas which has different medical equipment. The benefit of this set-up is that if you need to have a health issue looked at more in depth it's handy when the help you need is seamless between locations. My favourite part of Front Street Animal Hospital is that all the vets work as a team and share information and ideas to help your pet get the help they need as quickly as possible. When animals can't talk experience is key in getting to the root of the cause. A stitch in time saves 9! The hospital's owner, Dr. Edison Barrientos is passionate about animals and also supporting his team of vets. Read Less

Front Street Animal Hospital-Stellar experience!!! I was very concerned as anyone would be, taking their pet to the vet for dental surgery. My cat Ricky needed to have his teeth cleaned due to gingivitis. Dr.Batruch , Krista, Meaghan and the entire team made sure Ricky was ok as I was concerned about his anxiety levels. I put a pink quartz for love and healing in the carrier with his blanket and toy. Unbeknownst to me the quartz was close to him during surgery and this meant so much to me. And guess what... he was himself within an hour of me bringing him home from a long 12 hour lapse. I gave this vet clinic 1 star because this clinic has no compassion and they should be ashamed to say they care about pets and pet owners. They just wanted my money (over charged) and I was lied to. In one week I spent over $600 at this vet clinic and the vet, Dr. W. prescribed medicine for my pet. Before Dr. W. prescribed the medicine, she told me and I quote, "the medicine will only last a week, so if you need more, don't worry". My pet needs a refill of the same medication for the same issue and Dr. W. refuses to refill my pets med. Dr. W. say my pet needs to have a $100 exam, even though my pet has already been examined and only needs a refill. Typical example of money hungry vet clinic. They thought they could take advantage of me, but I'm smarter than that. I have also heard from other pet owners in my area who have shared similarly stories. I have mixed feelings about this Animal Hospital. I'll tell you why starting from the beginning. My 17 year old cat has a history of benign cysts in her mammary glands that had been either removed or had resolved on their own. However, this new one seemed to be getting larger extremely quickly. One day it split open and I called the Front St Animal Hospital, the closest vet, to bring her in immediately. They were very kind and made the appointment for two hours later. So, my daughter and I brought our cat in. We didn't wait long until an assistant to the vet called us in. However, she was very rough with our cat and seemed not to even like animals. She flinched almost to the point of hitting her when our cat hissed at her. Once the vet came in and the assistant left, I voiced my concerns stating that I didn't like the assistants 'bedside manner' or lack thereof and that her behaviour was rather disturbing. The vet listened intently and asked the assistant to get a muzzle for out cat. That was kind of ridiculous considering it was the assistant that was causing the problems by being rough with our cat. Anyway, the vet was very young and explained she wanted to strip out all of my cat's mammary glands at once and that it would cost over to $5000, perhaps more. I was shocked given the history of our cat's lumps being benign I felt it was too drastic and that a simple lumpectomy of the one lump would suffice. We had a discussion about administering antibiotics since it looked infected and I told them I'd think about it and let them know the next business day. Anyway, we left not very impressed and I was really hesitant to go back for the antibiotics. I called up and asked if we could get the needle antibiotic instead of the oral dose since it was a shorter span and less room for error (namely by me). They agreed and we brought her back in. We had yet another vet and she administered the shot. We were asked to come back yet again in a week or so. We did and it was yet another vet. So, we've had 3 vets and a lousy assistant so far. I was feeling uneasy. This vet was more reasonable - she had only been there a week. Apparently, we did, in fact, have an option of a much less expensive lumpectomy. But she wanted to do the full lumpectomy right away in order to do a biopsy. Again, I said I'd get back to her. I went home a did some research and found that a simple needle biopsy would suffice and would cost 1/10 the price and it wouldn't involve opening her back up a second time if the lump turned out to be malignant. I have to note, that I was telephoned and emailed repeatedly by the clinic asking to bring our cat in. I felt it was a hard sell, especially since they started out with such a huge estimate of over $5000 but then for such an urgent procedure was talked down to under $1500 for everything. One odd thing they did, was order our cat's medical records from her previous vet without direct written consent from me, I don't even know how they figured out who our last vet was unless there's some database. If so, I should have been told of this. To me, all this screamed dishonesty and desperation. They were using different sell tactics to bring our cat in and this was not ethical to me. During this time, I was speaking to a physician acquaintance who was having a similar problem with her dog. She pointed out that the 'c word' should not have even been mentioned the first visit, especially with our cat's history of benign lumps and the vet certainly shouldn't have insisted on a full mammary tract stripping. It was unethical what they did and was a scare tactic. Update: We did go back. Why, you ask. We were tired, confused, and travelling all around the city in the winter with her was horrific. The owner just happened to be in that day, he was to-the -point, generous with his knowledge and time. He immediately did a lung xray, which turned out to show lung cancer. This xray should have been performed way back in November when we first brought her in. It would have stopped the guessing to deal with the task at hand. Within a couple weeks she developed a Super bug which they wouldn't treat her for and likely contributed to her decline. Euthanasia was recommended though the oncologist was within a week. Kiki was in good spirits that morning so I canceled the euthanasia waiting for the oncologist. A tech called back to lecture me on how inhumane I was being. So we stupidly went in. I think Kiki died of shock after the vet put the iv in since the vet ran into the waiting room and said she was passing. I jumped up and ran in. She looked so weak and frail. The vet said 'I better do it now'. Meaning I better inject her. She did and our Kiki died. We opted to have her buried in the pet cemetary but ordered a plaque with her paw print. Several weeks later we got a call saying Kiki's ashes were ready for pick up. Ashes? We didn't order any ashes!? By that time I just felt numb. I just have no words. No words. Read Less

We have been going to Front Street Animal Hospital for maybe two years now. At first I thought that they were good and I could trust them, but now I am feeling that they have become greed driven and not very caring. They used to be reliable when it came to refilling prescriptions, now I find that they have become lazy and indifferent to the well being of our cat. I no longer feel reassured that they will act in our best interest although at first glance one can be deceived by their portrayal of the friendly neighbourhood animal hospital. Their organisation must have decreased significantly since they will communicate one thing to my husband and something different to me thus causing a great deal of upset and confusion. If they have records of what animals require what medications in their computer system, you would think that they would carry a reasonable amount of medication especially if it is for a serious condition. Either they are not entering information in their system or not looking at the information on file. It should not take all day to make sure that they will be able to refill a prescription. How long should it take one to ask the doctor a simple question such as this? They seem to retort that it is my job to keep them in order. How convenient - they can sit around and rake in the money while I chase them and I must make sure I am spoon feeding them at least month in advance. Read Less

I've been going to Front St Vet for the last 5 years, and there is good reason for that. They are compassionate and easily one of the most affordable vets in the city. Vet care is by no means cheap- but it's nice to know they have incredibly fair pricing. Never have I felt pressure to purchase additional exams/ teeth cleaning/ blood work etc. It's not a 'sales environment'. Dr. Batruch is highly recommended by myself. They truly care about your relationship with them by consistently following up to insure the treatment plans are working. They are always on time, and reception has always been pleasant. I recommend Front St to all of my furry friend pet owners! Keep up the great work (and hopefully I don't have to visit soon! ;) ) Your friends, Ashley & Zoe.Read Less

My dog hasn't been feeling great and I needed a vet that was close by (walking distance), since she won't go in the car. I heard about this place through a friend. I called around 9am, got an appt the same day. When we got there, we were checked in, Nika was weighed and we waited for our appt time to come. I was early. When the dr saw Nika, she was great! She was friendly, she listened. She advised. She thoroughly checked over Nika. She didn't push anything on me. I love this place. She came out at the end and gave Nika a treat personally. Great service. We will be back for blood work next week. I'm very happy with this animal clinic. I highly recommend, even if you aren't sure what's wrong with your pet. Other vet clinics haven't been this way in the past. This is a 5 star for us! Read Less

This clinic scares me. I've been there three times and my dog woke up this morning yelping and crying from a bacterial infection they can't seem to treat. I asked the vet if it could be related to how dirty the streets are down town from people who don't pick up after their pet. She dismissed that and started into a long list of expensive x-rays, ultra-sounds etc. The worst part is in our discussion about possibilities we talked about socializing dogs and she told me that "not all dogs are pack animals." Not all dogs are pack animals? How do those who are not pack animals get out of the deal? I left when she said that. My dog is in agony and the vet doesn't know about pack mentality and how strong it is in the dogs instinct. No wonder you can't figure out what's wrong with him. If you go to this clinic I surely hope you don't take advice on training. It will cause serious problems for your dog. This kind of advice has been given to many owners and I meet their dogs on death row at the SPCA. Read Less

Nothing but purrfect things to say about this clinic! Last September my cat Leo suffered from constipation and developed some urinary crystals. The previous vet was amazing, but far from my new condo. I was looking for a new vet close by and decided to go to this clinic based on the good reviews on Yelp. Leo and I first time was for his annual check-up and we were assigned to Dr. Sun. She is extremely kind yet straight forward, has great knowledge and takes the time to listen to all of my questions. And believe me, I do ask a lot of questions. I am sort of a mamma bear when it comes to my cat. After the check-up, she said she would come up with a plan to reduce my cat's crystals and maintaining his weight. I got a e-mail from her the next morning with a detailed plan and portion ratio. She even replied to my further inquiries within the hour. The staff is truly wonderful. They know what products, food or techniques is good for your pet depending on the situation, you can tell they really care about their patients and owners. Read Less

I was hesitant to request an appointment as I had done so in the past and it took a while for them to contact me. However, I was told by a friend that he brought his cat here and he liked them. I made the vet tech aware that my cat was quite ill (it was Thursday around noon), and she gave me an appointment for Saturday, rather than expressing the urgency of the situation and suggesting I take him elsewhere. If I had not taken my cat to an emergency vet, he would have died. When he was released from the emergency vet and to be promptly followed up by Front Street (Sunday), I was not given an appointment until Tuesday. Following my visit with the vet I was given a prescription for insulin with the incorrect syringes ordered (by the vet Tech).  I called in the next day to point out the error as I was aware they'd be ordering both, and was told their supplier doesn't supply the medication anyway (which is almost 30$ cheaper if I buy from a regular pharmacy and syringes are 1/2 the price at another vet). No one had called me beforehand to inform me about their inability to get the medication (insulin).  There was no indication that they accepted responsibility for the mistake of mixing up the insulin and the syringes, and no apology for not letting me know they were unable to get the medication. In the meantime, I was sitting at home with a sick cat biding time until I could start administering insulin.  Regarding their mistake in the prescription, understandably, there is a serious problem with administering a 100 unit/ml medication with a 40 unit/ml syringe. diabeticcatcare.com provides a conversion chart for the opposite medication/syringe, but advises, "Never try to do the reverse and use U40 needles with U100 insulin - this is dangerous!'  I was sent home without medication for my pet (who was seriously ill), and no future appointment booked, but rather, was told to wait until the medication came in and then we would schedule an appointment for him to be kept at the clinic throughout the day to be monitored (for up to 3 days) - which was certainly NOT required. Noted again, the medication he required could have been picked up at a regular pharmacy (Lantus insulin U100/ml) and administered the same day. Finally, the vet tech suggested that I should be feeding my diabetic cat dry food. Everything else I have read and been advised by other vets states otherwise, that dry food, even if it is specific for a diabetic diet, should be avoided.I will most certainly not be taking my pets to this clinic again (Rather, I have found a great vet at the Spadina Animal Hospital). Front Street Animal Hospital is overpriced ( Front St. Animal Hospital VS  Elsewhere:  medication $97 vs $70; syringes $37 vs $77; cat food/can $2.06 vx $1.99), unaccountable, and irresponsible. I was recommended to Front Street Vet by a friend of a colleague. I had also wanted to check them out because I live so close by.The friend raved about one vet in particular, Dr. Sun, and luckily my appointment was with her. Upon arriving my carrier broke and they offered to check the back for an extra to give to me! Thought that was nice. One of the vet tech's actually fixed the carrier for me before the appointment so I didn't need a new one. When I saw Dr. Sun, she gave me very straight forward, realistic advice. She handled my cat very well and gave me many alternatives that were price friendly. Conversing with her was easy and she was very attentive. She understood my concerns very clearly and was easy to talk to. She "gets it".Will now be taking my other kitty there too. Great spot. A little note: the street parking (paid) is super convenient in front of the building but you can't park there between the hours of 4-6pm. Nothing but pawsitives about this place!Friendly, knowledgeable and compassionate staff.  My very first visit here was just over a year ago for my elderly dog who had several chronic problems.  First of all, I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg for his assessment as my previous clinic was quite costly.  I was pleasantly surprised that his visit was significantly less than what I was use to paying for elsewhere.  At the time, he saw Dr. Juan who was very helpful, phoned me at home to follow up and never pressured me to run any unnecessary tests or start additional medications.  When the time came to say goodbye to my little fellow, the vets helped me weigh the pros and cons before I made my decision.  They explained the entire procedure, thanked me for allowing them to be a part of his care, reassured me that I was making the right decision and made sure that his passing was peaceful.  During such a difficult time, overall it was a positive experience.  Dr. Sun even sent me a handwritten sympathy card.I currently bring my other dog to this clinic and she loves the attention she gets from the staff and the treats!  They are very thorough and have even sent me follow up e-mails with information or suggestions that we discussed in person.Front St. Animal Hospital offers grooming services which I haven't used, but have had my dog's nails clipped here when we've stopped in for an appointment. They sell the usual prescription and special diet foods as well as some supplements.Location is easy to get to via Bathurst St. Car or a quick walk for Cityplace residents over the Puente de Luz footbridge (takes you from Cityplace to the foot of Portland and Front St.) Read Less

My dog and I love the staff at the Front Stree Animal Hospital. They are always pleasant, friendly and extremely helpful. The actual vets themselves, I have my reservations. They charge a lot and the results are often inconclusive. Maybe it is the nature of their practice since animals cannot really tell you when/if they're sick or where it hurts. Easy to get an appointment, and you actually talk to the vet, not the tech. They also don't make you wait for ages, and the vets are actually on schedule. Such a treat! I also appreciated not being rushed, and feeling like the vet was actually listening to what I was asking. I consider this clinic a NON PILL PUSHING one, unlike certain other vet clinics in the area. They're also understanding of alternative feeding methods (ie. raw diet), which is a vet relationship deal-breaker for me. My dog needed needed his rabies shot as well as another booster so I brought him to the Front Street Animal Hospital simply because it's located near where I live. When I called for an appointment the girl who answered the phone was very pleasant and informative. Because this was my dog's first visit to this vet he had to have a general exam in addition to the vaccines. The total cost for the exam, rabies shot, and two other shots (I forget what they were for) was about $130. The exam included nail trimming which was great because they did a much better job than where I had been taking him. The clinic is very clean and everyone that works there fawned over my little dog. Perhaps they do this for all the animals that come in, but I think he liked the attention. The doctor explained everything to me and let be be in the room for the vaccines. He then had to take my dog to a separate room for a vaccine given in the nose (ouch) and to have his nails clipped.  When my dog had a small allergic reaction to one of the vaccines I called the clinic and left a message with the receptionist. The vet called me back without delay and told me to come in and he'd take a look at him. Read Less

This clinic is a great example of a business model that attempts to maximize average per visit cost and engages in sales tactics that prey on an owners fear, uncertainty and doubt. For a visit they tried to make cost $600. Would not recommend. Read Less

Read Less

Not only that, but they are flexible and able to accommodate our pup's uniqueness (e.g., a 60lb lab who does NOT enjoy anal gland expressions and requires 3 technicians to complete the task!). Very very happy and if you are concerned about your pets whiskers, anxiety, any little thing, speak up and tell them. It doesn't hurt to be up-front. I have one question for front street vet clinic. What is more important to you, quality service or quantity service? Read Less

Many vets in the city want to get you and your pet in and out as quick as possible. Front Street Animal Hospital is different - they actually care. They take the time to explain things to you and do not pressure you to make decisions you are not comfortable with.Within minutes of meeting my dog for the first time, Dr. Elduayen was able to tell me everything about my dog - some things I was shocked that he knew right away. Like previous reviews have mentioned, the staff here are extremely friendly and patient. I've done grooming here a few times also and they do a fantastic job. Read Less

Just wish they have more doctors there for second or third opinion before more work (and some involves heavy-lifting) is done.Location is superb and I heard it is way better than the clinic on Spadina. So I'm sticking to it till another pet clinic opens up =) Read Less

I would like to comment this vet for providing care to the family dog during his end of days.  They provided honest and heart-felt suggestions and didn't lead me down the garden path as to the the reality of the situation. They are generally open a lot and the vet went above and beyond trying to find the right surgeon to help but alas it was too late for my poor old friend. The sad news is that my dog is no more.  An aggressive cancer got him after 14 years.I would highly recommend this clinic as they clearly love animals and have the animal's best interest in mind rather than their pocket book. I recommend this clinic to all dog owners, who lack trust in vet dr/clinics, due to previous experiences -- they'll help you believe again! Read Less

Read Less

My cat (twitpic.com/paiha) used to have bad breath. He also used to have skin problems. He used to lick himself in his bathing suit area until there were bare patches where there used to be fur. He was a sad sight, and you could smell him across the room.  Enter Front Street Animal Hospital. The good:- It's close to where I used to live.  - They really like my cat and when he escaped from the exam room they weren't too stressed about where he could get to.- They tricked him into getting in his cat carrier without incident (usually... this comes with incident).- They clipped his nails while he was under the anesthetic getting his teeth pulled. The cons:- It's far from where I live now.- The cat food they have convinced me to buy for him is very expensive compared to grocery store cat foods and they never have big bags of old fat cat food in stock so I have to go back more often because his food only comes in little bags.I would take Fins here anytime he needed to see a vet.  I like them, they have debit and take credit cards and they showed genuine affection towards my cat.
