Leaside Animal Clinic killed my cat! I brought my 6-month-old cat in to treat a bad infection in his paw back in Oct 2018. Dr Ruth Weintrop prescribed an antibiotic which didn't work, then she prescribed the same antibiotic and still it didn't work. Then she prescribed x-rays, blood tests, swab tests, etc. After more than $1,000 of additional bills, my cat was still not cured. 8 weeks later, my cat was still limping around in pain & suffering. At this point, she tells me that there's another antibiotic. This other antibiotic was the correct one and it cured my cat's infection after just one round of treatment. Fast forward 4 years later, my cat collapses and is having problems breathing. I take him in immediately to see his new vet, and after several expensive exams costing over $1,000, he is diagnosed with a heart condition and is given months to live. I was told that his heart condition could have been caused by a prolonged infection. After 20 months and more than $2,500 of medications, my cat passes away from heart failure after turning just 6 years old. Dr Ruth Weintrop milked me for as much money as she could and, in the process, she killed my cat. Wtf Ruth, if you knew there were 2 antibiotics to treat my cat's infection (aerobic & anaerobic), why didn't you give my cat the other antibiotic after the first one didn't work. You gave him the same antibiotic twice and then waited 8 weeks later, and after I spent an additional $1,000 plus on useless tests, before giving him the correct other antibiotic. During this 8-week delay, my cat continued to suffer and the infection got into his heart & damaged it beyond repair causing his premature death 5.5 years later. Read Less

Front desk staffs were not friendly and gave a bad first impression of your clinic to prospect. I came in to buy an e collar for my cat on Tuesday July 16, 2019 at 5:15 p.m.  The front desk receptionist were eyeing me up and down and when I asked for the collar, the receptionist gave me an attitude of "you called but you didn't tell me you are coming for the cones" and asked another vet tech to get the cone for me. They gave me two choices: 10 cm one that look well used and a 12 cm one that look somewhat new. I would choose the 10 cm but I did not want to pay for a used one (ew).Paid for the bigger one, said thanks and all I got was silence with cut eye looks from your receptionist. I told them I would bring my cat to this vet because it was highly rated and very closed to my new home but after my front desk experience, it's a shame that my pet and I have to look for another vet as they do not know how to treat their prospect at Leaside Animal Clinic. I've been here 3 times, twice for routine procedures, and once for a potential medical issue. The two times for routine stuff (vaccinations, poop check) were great, it was easy and everything went smoothly. But the one negative experience - my cat (4 months old at the time) was not using his litter box. I called about it and they asked me to bring him in. I told the vet (sorry I don't recall the name but she has short hair) that he wasn't in any pain, he just didn't seem interested in using the box. She informed me that he likely had crystals which is a reoccurring issue, and would need special diet for life and possibly surgery. I was given a quote of $3000, and said they would take him overnight to observe and run tests. I was only a cat owner for 2 months at the time, and was scared, so I agreed as that was what I thought was best. I took my cat back the next day, and the tests came back negative for everything and no surgical procedures were required, and ended up costing me $600. It turned out, the only problem was, he didn't like the new litter I had used. When we went home he had no problem using the litter box at all. I could have solved this problem for $15 for new cat litter.I will say that they asked me for consent for every procedure he went through. But if an experience vet is saying things to an inexperienced cat owner, you're going to listen to them. She spent time explaining in detail what urine crystals and I was pretty much convinced. I felt like she wanted to find a problem. She didn't even recommend me to try changing the cat litter before running all these tests and having my 4 month kitten stay overnight.Obviously I am glad that he didn't have any medical problems, but I feel a little gypped about that whole event. I guess I will be a little more hesitant about bringing him to the vet in the future. All my other visits with the younger vet (again sorry I don't recall the name) were greats and I really liked her. I will continue coming here in the future but I will be more clear and confident about what I want and don't want. Read Less

It's Sunday, 2 PM. We have an 18 year old cat with end-stage renal failure. She will be put down in two days. We've been giving her SC fluids since August. I just realized that we didn't close off our line to her fluids after giving them to her last night and our bag is empty. Leaside Animal Hospital is not our vet clinic simply due to proximity, but they're one of the closest clinics open on Sunday. I called them and explained my situation and asked if we could buy a bag. I was put on hold and the technician came back to say that, no, since we are not clients, they will not sell us a bag. I asked why and she said that we could give our cat too much fluid. I explained that we've been doing this since August and it is our second cat that's had renal failure. She still said no. Attached is a photo of our cat, who we love dearly. I hope the veterinarian looks at this photo before he or she denies a pet parent of what is a simple, humanitarian request. A vet should use some logic before denying something as simple as a bag of sub q fluid, which, if my cat doesn't get, will suffer from the effects of dehydration. Shame on you. Read Less

My experience with the staff and their incredible compassion for my cat's situation and the emotional affect it had on me was so moving and so appreciated. My cat Phoenix was in their care for colon surgery and for 9 days after facing extreme highs and lows in his fight to recover. I am eternally grateful for all the wondful care and compassion. All the doctors, nurses and staff were so kind and sweet to Phoenie and I, and especially patient with me during this emotional rollercoaster, allowing me to camp out in their waiting room, call 5 times a day for kitty updates, and visit everyday. It is obvious to me that every person on staff loves their job, the animals and has an incredible amount of respect for what they do and the lives that they impact. Thank you so much for saving my baby. He means the world to me and I have your team to thank for his survival and life ahead. Thank u from the bottom if our hearts. Love Lindsey and PhoenixRead Less

I have been a client since 1991. First with my beloved Humane Society brown tabby, Kochi, who lived to be 19. Dr Kennedy is a master at quality of life care of geriatric cats with little blood testing or intervention. Then I adopted Mikey, an older bichon frise from rescue in 2009. He needed a lot of dental care and extractions, which Dr Kennedy is a pro at. He sadly developed liver cancer and passed in 2013, always loved and protected. A wonderful, magical 4 years together. Now I have adopted Yankee, a 6 year old lhasa apso from rescue who needed cataract surgery. I chose the VEC for this, and Leaside has worked very well with his speciality dr. to coordinate supportive care. They really went the extra mile and learned a new procedure when he developed the terrible complication of glaucoma. Extraordinary care. I can't recommend them enough. I have worked with Dr Kennedy, Dr Went. Dr Weintrop, and Dr Munger. i have alsoc8464f7826641df659f2558194a64b740a614438 worked with every vet tech. They are the very best.Read Less

Read Less

After trying a few vets in the city, this might just be the best veterinarian in Toronto. Prices are reasonable and the care is excellent! Keep it up.

I brought my cat for his annual check in. I hesitated about the shots because I didn't know how much they would cost but it was decent. Dr. Kennedy seemed to truly care for my cat and he didn't try to escape and didn't look in pain when she gave him the shots. The receptionist was also very friendly and for those reasons, I will be back. Only downside is that AC didn't seem to work very well or they need better ventilation.

I have been a client at Leaside Animal Clinic almost from the very day they opened 35 years ago. My 4 legged "kids" have had the best "Vets" & "Vet Techs" look after them all these years. They are the most phenomenal group of compassionate, caring, & intelligent professionals I've ever had the pleasure to deal with. If they don't have an answer to what is ailing your "kid", they have no problem sending you to someone who does. Their main concern is your "kid" & to a fanatic animal lover such as myself , their compassion , love & desire to help my "kids" is way up there on the totem pole !!! There score out of 10, is 10 !!! I have been coming to Leaside Animal Clinic since 1992 - with my first pets. Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Weintrop (along with the other Doctors and Technicians). They have been there for us for the most routine and most emotionally intense days of life with my pets. I have always felt they took the utmost care for my little guys and were kind and caring for my pet parent emotions as well. I have never been to another clinic (except an Emergency Clinic); I am sure other clinics are great but I would highly recommend Leaside Animal Clinic!! P.S. I cannot say enough great things about this Animal Clinic!! I have used three others over the years and this one is superior in every way:-))) I've seen all the vets and every visit has been awesome. The vet techs are amazing, the reception staff friendly and knowledgable, and everyone here really cares. They cared for my cat through his old age, and were wonderful with him and me when his time was up. Then they answered questions for me when I was deciding on a new pet and now they look after my new dogs health needs:-)))) We can't walk past there without him trying to pull me in:-)))They also explain the fees every step if the way so there are no surprises at the end of the visit:-))Awesome!!!
