I had to unexpectedly board my 14 year old, diabetic cat for 10 days. The team at Animal Haus was very receptive and capable of meeting his needs. I received daily updates about him and while it was an extra fee, the webcam access was reassuring as well. The people here clearly care about animals and their well being. It's not an inexpensive option, but it is money well spent. Read Less

Response from the owner 4 months ago Hi Darla, thanks for your feedback. Our clinic follows the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association fee guide, and we are most definitely focused on the pets. Multiple pets can definitely be expensive, and it's why we strongly recommend pet insurance. It's my understanding that the doctor did provide a complimentary exam for one of your pets at your last visit, and our lead technician spent time explaining your invoice to you? Feel free to call me if you'd like to discuss this further. We hope you're happy with your new clinic of choice.

They used to be great. But for last two years, their services has not been honest. We’ve been contacted to bring in our pet for yearly checkup/vaccine. When we booked the appointment, they do not check whether the vaccine is needed or not, and told us that our pet is due for both. Turns out vaccine is not needed for 2 more years. The checkup consists of 40 min of waiting, 5 min of examination and a bill of close to $100 just for that 5 min check up. It’s not too expensive, however, the service we’ve received definitely does not match that cost. On top of this, the doctor noticed that our pet needs toilet relief, yet offer no help for that. It ended up with our pet relieving itself on the way home due to holding for too long. Will we return next year? I am not too sure. Read Less

We switched to QWAH after a bad experience with another vet and we couldn't be more thrilled with the difference. Very welcoming, very informative of options, costs, expectations for side effects. The new facilities are fantastic, always clean and well lit. When my pup needed emergency surgery they accommodated him immediately, broke everything down very clearly and were incredibly helpful with deciding on further care. They are also fantastic with phone follow-ups to check in after any presenting concerns from appointments. If we are ever walking by my pup actually pulls me there, not letting us continue until we stop in to say hi because they treat him so well. Read Less

I had previously given Queen west 5 stars when I started with them in 2011. They were great, however after bringing a concerning lump to their attention for 2 years and nothing, I went for a second opinion and had a biopsy come back as a stage 2 Mast cell tumor (as well as a shoddy nail cut that resulted in 2 split nails shortly after, one of which needed to be removed). If a fancy reno and coffee bar is important to you, enjoy this vet office. however, if you care more about you pets well being, try a vets office less dedicated to beautification and ability to offer you a latte while they butcher your pets nails or ignore symptoms you bring them and one that is focused on your pet. Anyone who has tried to travel overseas knows that CFIA has demanding standards, but Queen West came through with documentation that was provided within hours of request. Amazing experience through and through with DWAH.1. Through Leto's puppyhood and initial checkups they were patient, understanding, and thorough. They happily handled my various panicky moments as a first-time dog owner with grace and dignity. They were always incredibly warm, welcoming, and friendly with Leto (who, as a result, LOVES coming to the vet).2. On two separate occasions (a case of giardia and a sprained shoulder), the staff made room for me to be seen by a vet within fifteen minutes of showing up unannounced. They were swift, prompt, and responded to my concerns immediately and professionally.3. Their follow-ups and correspondence are beyond reproach, using phone, email, and text to keep me up to date.4. Huge shout out to Dr. Bainbridge in particular, who counselled me as I endeavoured to address Leto's suitability as a running companion. He patiently answered questions, worked with me to explain x ray results, and thoroughly addressed all my concerns.Their staff is always super friendly and their office is clean and bright. They are also flexible and accommodating--for example, allowing me to drop Leto off in the morning for an examination and returning after work for the follow-up appointment. All told, they have helped me raise my dog from a ten-week pup to a happy, healthy, handsome sixteen-month-old retriever. I look forward to working with them for years to come and recommend them unreservedly. They have free coffee, too. Read Less

I've been taking my cat here since he was a baby and I have always loved the service. Even though I've moved a bit farther away I still plan on bringing him here. A year and a half ago he suffered from a bladder blockage and had to be given a catheter for the weekend. It was extremely stressful for me and my cat, I am but a wee single 20-something, and the DWAH staff was more than accommodating. He would continue to show strange symptoms for 1-2 weeks after his treatment, and I would call DWAH constantly with my worries. They would let me bring him in every morning to monitor his progress while I was at work as I was terrified to leave him alone at home in case he blocked again (re-occurring blockages are common). Seriously, looking back on it they probably thought I was SO crazy but they were so kind to me and empathetic. He's now so much better and super healthy! It was an expensive process and I don't doubt that there are other vets that could provide slightly lower costs, however the service made it worth it for me. There are some concerns in the reviews on here about price gouging and providing unnecessary tests. This is honestly something that occurs with most veterinarians and I think there's a bigger issue (lack of adequate & reliable pet health care insurance). The best thing you can do is build a relationship and understanding with your vet and vet techs, and ask the right questions to ensure only the mandatory tests are being done.I think the only negative thing I can say is there is one veterinarian in particular is pretty forward with these additional treatments without really asking. She once walked in with a booster in hand and said "I'm going to give him this shot for ___[insert whatever disease here]___ now" and then its done within seconds, before I can really process what's going on. Then it's not only an extra cost but they've also given my cat medication that I didn't approve or fully understand. I would've agreed to it most likely but just would like to be given a moment to think about it. Read Less

Dundas West Animal Hospital has always been very good to us. Their front desk staff is friendly and helpful,  and any of their vets and techs have been great.  We just went through a long process with our cat who had IBS and other issues, and they were always professional and caring. The vets would inform and recommend treatments to us, but if we said no, there was never any pressure. We didn't want our friend to go through any more hardship then necessary, just to confirm what we already knew. When it came time to pass him along to the great cat park in the sky, the staff were all wonderful, caring, and helpful. We now have a new friend, and we will definitely bring her to DWVH for her care. Worst vet experience. My dog was diagnosed with diabetes and I was advised to order insulin '24 to 48 hours in advance' of when I needed it. I ordered the insulin 48 hours in advance of when I needed it, following up the next day. I was told it wasn't there, fine. I followed up twice the following day and when I called the third time, apologizing for being annoying, I was told they ordered the syringes instead of the insulin. I'm glad someone checked my order to see what was really going on with it the last time I called. They put aside some other insulin and syringes for me to pick up instead (which I paid full price for, no discount given). For some reason I was also charged for four canisters of the original insulin order (even though I was told only one was on order for me) so I called for a credit and was told that would be fine. A week later when I called to follow up on the credit, I'm told I need to come in to do it. Would have been nice to know last week, you guys! This vet cannot handle a modern situation with two dog owners who don't live together . Even though I was the one ordering and paying for the insulin, they would leave a message on my ex's voicemail, not mine. But they would call me back regarding other things so it was always inconsistent. When I complained about their constant miscommunication, the person on the phone said they can only have one main contact. I guess they don't need my business then! Lastly, my dog had a bump on his leg that was told may be cancerous (after spending money on x-rays, biopsy and an ultrasound $$$$$$$) only to find the bump disappeared a few weeks later so it was likely due to an injury. I will never bring my dog here again. ***I truly appreciate your response and processing my credit over the phone. Since I've called repeatedly and left my name/number over and over and was paying for Dexter's bills I'm surprised no one mentioned to me that I was just an emergency contact and not a co-owner. I'm glad that will be sorted out shortly as well. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.*** Read Less

All the staff I encountered are super nice, attentive, and seem to truly love their job and the animals they work with. My dog is pretty timid when at the vet, and they were incredibly understanding, kind, and patient with him, and answered many of my questions before they even escaped my mouth. They do a good job and I feel like my pets get good care, but I cannot get over how much I feel overcharged for their services. Not only that, I greatly dislike how much of an up-sell they will do on you to try to get you to buy more things. After my appointment I get an email, asking how things are going with the pet. I have twice told them that their course of treatment weren't working for my pet. Picked this vet since they have great hours (open til 8pm on weekdays, open Sat), easy to get an appointment, and near downtown (cat used to be in the suburbs, with family).  Nice website too (that's how I found them...google) Brought my cat there since he was newly-diagnosed with diabetes but previous vet was too far away to bring to frequent apptmts.  Reception staff & vet assistant seemed professional and helpful. Dr. Folosea was thorough (good physical exam of the cat), informative, and pretty abreast of current vet literature on feline diabetes (I am a physician, so I understand the importance of staying current).  Much more so than my cat's previous vet.  Also, UNLIKE previous vet, this vet didn't push unnecessary expensive tests, push expensive prescription-brand food (just mentioned it was an option...but not pushy), nor unnecessarily-frequent followup visits. Overall, I didn't feel rushed at all...and vet explained all aspects of feline diabetes well (eg. diet changes, advantages of certain insulin over others, diabetes complications and their presentation in cats, etc). Vet tech also helpful in showing how to easily check cat sugars myself (since I told them I preferred to check blood glucose at home, instead of bringing cat in each time we wanted to titrate insulin dose).I think this office demonstrated good rapport, knowledge, empathetic staff, modern waiting room, and free street parking (as long as not during rush hour..even then, there's Green P parking close by across the street).  I don't do that many reviews, but figured it was worthwhile to spend a few minutes to write this (since pets are often important to their owners, and hard to find thorough vets that don't charge unnecessarily).I plan to bring my cat back here. When I first got my kitten, I was a little hesitant to go to Dundas West Animal hospital because although they're in my neighbourhood, they seemed like a high-end, pricy animal hospital, and I'm a student who needs to save money. My friends at work insisted I bring my cat here because they took care of one of my friend's cat when the cat had a health emergency, and they facilitated the adoptions of the kittens of another friend's cat.Being a first time cat owner, I booked Tobias' first appointment too soon after I adopted him, and it was still too early for his second set of shots. The technician told me he would waive the check-up fee the next time I went in, so that I wouldn't have to pay again when I brought Tobias back for his shots. I had to unexpectedly board my 14 year old, diabetic cat for 10 days. The team at Animal Haus was very receptive and capable of meeting his needs.

Read Less

I thought that that was nice of them and it helped me trust that they wouldn't charge me for unnecessary things. The staff is very professional and friendly, and Tobias is happy and healthy, so I can't ask for more. I definitely recommend Dundas West Animal Hospital. Read Less
