This is an unfortunate review because it really shouldn't reflect the support staff at this hospital, but rather the disgusting excuse for a veterinarian, Dr. Marsig. I've been coming to the Animal Hospital of Unionville for the past three years - everyone at the hospital loves my dog and is always very excited to see him. He has been there a lot lately, he has had 2 TPLO surgeries on both hind legs starting in January. The surgeon who performed the surgery did an amazing job and I would highly recommend her. However, upon follow-up after the second surgery the veterinarian became very aggressive with my dog. 10 days after surgery we came in to have his stitches removed and the vet wrestled my dog (who just had TWO leg surgeries) to the ground. When my dog yelped with pain and tried to wiggle his way out of his grasp, the vet asked for further backup because he wasn't satisfied trying a more gentle approach (which is how we removed his first set of stitches). They finally got the dog calm and decided he needed to be sedated for another week to ensure he was healing correctly, I agreed. The vet prescribed my 39kg dog three, 25mg pills to be consumed all at once and only once per day. His appointment was late on Friday so I decided to give him his first round of sedatives early Saturday morning. My dog was sedated to the point of unresponsiveness and when I called the vet Saturday afternoon to express my concern I was told "he's fine" and "that's completely normal". My dog continued to be so drugged he was unable to stand for over 24hrs. He did not get up to eat or relieve himself in the backyard due to the fact that if he stood he would fall over from extreme dizziness. On Monday I expressed my concern with the vet and all he could offer was his apologies and stated that maybe that dose was a bit much. Today I took my dog for his four week follow up to ensure that his joints are moving well and everything is healing according to plan. Unfortunately Dr. Marsig continued to be aggressive with my dog who is still healing from a very extensive leg surgery. He, again, wrestled my dog to the ground while the nurse tried to hold him still. My dog, again, yelped continuously in pain, tried to escape from the vets hold and eventually nipped him. Dr. Marsig in a fit of rage grabbed the muzzle and again tried to wrestle my dog to the ground, I pled with the vet to get him to stop and try to give him a treat so he wouldn't get scared while he examined him and he refused. He continued to pin my dog down while he yelped in pain and tried to escape the vets grip. I ended up leaving in complete disgust while Dr. Marsig chased me out trying to apologize for the way things went down. I had looked past the first incident and complete disregard for my dogs healing legs and even looked past the fact that he drugged him past the point of coherence for more than a day, I wasn't willing to look past this incident. If this is the treatment animals receive in front of their owners, imagine the treatment they receive behind closed doors. In case this review isn't enough to deter you from this hospital - just ask the support staff that witnessed the owner of the hospital's behaviour with my dog on more than one occasion. Read Less
