My friend takes her little dog to get her nails cut and for all other vet necessities at this clinic here in Welland. If my friend tries to cut her doggies nails she turns friom a cute little dog to some maniac animal that would attack her as soon as she saw the trimmers. But I was totally shock at when my friend took her to this clinic to get her naiils done she walked in and sat there while these people trimmed her nails...if I had not seen it... Main West Animal Hospital was there right away when I needed them. I called in the morning after having been at the ER Vet Hospital the evening before. They brought me in with Keisha within a 1/2 hr, took blood work and processed it in-house right away. It turned out she had pancreatitis. They gave her an injection for pain, told me of an over the counter med I could buy myself to help her and gave me instructions on how to modify her diet. They have also called me to follow up on how she is doing. I would highly recommend them. Read Less

I'm torn about this place. I love Dr. Bohn, he's the best - knows his stuff, is thorough and realistic.. BUT the only thing that drives me nuts is the CONSTANT up-selling at this clinic. These past two weeks (definitely not the first time) I have had constant text message and FIVE voicemail "reminders" about my Pet needing a wellness checkup.. or vaccines.. yadda yadda.. it never ends. Im surprised they havent asked me to sign up for Dog Yoga yet. I know there is definitely incentives for the frontline staff to sell and book appointments, but its TOO MUCH. Recently they just went ahead and left a message that they booked me in for a rabies vaccine, without me even requesting it. I was out of country, and now this creates work for me - the customer - to call back and say I don't want it - then get a subtle guilt trip from the somewhat condescending girl on the other end. Yesterday I picked up flea/tick meds yesterday, and sure enough I couldn't get out of there without them guilting me into a heartworm check and then their scripted story on how a few dogs died last year. YES, I GET IT. I am a good pet owner, but sometimes we need to draw a line because I have spent well over $5,000 - $10,000k last year on my pets alone. Great clinic.. but c'mon guys, let's ease up on the up sells.. I shouldn't have to leave your business frustrated and somewhat shamed that I havent booked my pet in for every darn vaccine, wellness checkup, fecal test, or god knows what else you require of us. I know it can be disguised as "genuine care for your pet".. but.. yeah.. not my first time at the rodeo. It shouldnt be money first, then service, it should be the other way around.. and I just feel like a big ol' wallet to this establishment. Read Less

Great caring staff. Staff who are constantly educating themselves to stay on top of all procedures and the best care for our animals. You never know when your loved one will need a surgery or procedure, and if they do i feel confident, honoured and safe knowing dr bahn will be there. Read Less

Excellent staff, all the way from the receptionists to the techs to the veterinarians. Always kind, compassionate and caring from beginning to end, no matter the species (MainWest cares for my rats, cats and dog). Dr Bahn in particular is fantastic and has saved 3 of my rats lives, including giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to my baby boy, Bowie! Today was our first visit to Main West Animal Hospital. We had a consult regarding our dog's torn ACL. The doctor took his time with us and answered all of our questions (we had a lot of questions) I did a lot of research on my dog's injury, so I knew a little bit of what I was talking about. The doctor was patient and thorough, explaining all of our options. We live in Niagara Falls and could have went locally however this place was recommended by a friend. One of the few places that will see guinea pigs in the Niagara area. Dr. Amanda was great with Luke! Very knowledgeable and comfortable seeing guinea pigs. Having read mixed information about guinea pigs and bunnies playing together (because of spreading viruses to each other leading to more serious conditions), I took my guinea pig into Dr. Amanda at Main West. She did a general examination of Luke and took the time to answer all my questions regarding my concerns. I was not impressed with the Main West Animal Hospital for a couple of reasons, but when I thought my dog had a stroke, we called a couple of different vets in the area and they refused to look at her as she was not a patient. :( We called Main West and they said to bring her right in. This was my first time at Main West Animal Hospital. Every employee welcomed me as I walked in. The receptionist was very helpful and personable. The vet was extremely thorough with his examination of my girl Kiwi (bunny). He answered all of my questions and was very patient with me. He treated Kiwi with care and kindness. Love this animal hospital. We have gone to see multiple vets there over the past couple of years and have found the service to be warm, caring, thorough, and focused on our pets needs and best interest. Treatment options were always explained in detail and generally they recommend to try the simplest way to deal with a problem first. Our dog was having some discomfort so we took her to our regular vet. It seemed as though she was suffering with some nerve damage of some sort. Our vet put her on a round of prednisone and tramadol. This all happened June 24/16. To make a long story short. She's been on this steroid since then and hasn't gotten any better she's actually getting worse. I did some research about animal chiropractic and thought this could maybe help her. We took her to see Dr Bhan yesterday and in the short hour that we were there he did more for her than her regular vet has since June. We will definitely be taking our fur baby back to see him going forward. We are very pleased!! Read Less

I had a sick kitty that had to be seen right away.  When I called for an appointment I was told they were booked up but would squeeze her in due to the serious nature of her symptoms.  I was impressed with how caring the doctor was and the staff called me the next day to check in on her.  I have been to other vets before and have never been made to feel so cared for! RUN, don't walk, AWAY from this place if your pet is ill and requires anything more than a simple vaccination. Beginning of May I took my cat to see Dr. Bohn at Main West as she wasn't eating or drinking and clearly was in pain with reduced mobility. He examined her, asked me what I thought was wrong (??) and then took a blood test only for it to be normal results. He sent me home with her and some pain meds. A few days later she was much worst and could barely lift her head. I called the Main West vet again and suggested maybe she should have X-rays as something is obviously causing her pain and difficulty breathing. I took her there for X-rays in the morning and had an apt to see Dr.Bohn later that afternoon. They said they would keep here there and monitor her for the afternoon while we waited for our apt later in the day. That afternoon I got a call from another vet at Main West, Dr Amanda Salazar, and she told me she was available and to come down and she would review the results of the X-ray with me. Not sure why we never saw Dr.Bohn again...felt like he abandoned us when there were more serious issues to deal with. Dr.Salazar basically didn't know what was wrong and just suggested a bunch of possibilities and said the heart looks large but hard to say why and there is fluid on the lungs but not enough to take a sample. Ultimately no diagnosis and I should just monitor her and touchbase in a week. I asked her point blank if this is very serious and she just casually said "I know its frustrating that we don't know". When she was on the table I looked at my cat and her eye was all blood in the pupil which the vet had never even noticed. This suggests she likely never examined my cat that whole afternoon she was in their care. Upon my prompting the vet then looked at her eye and suggested drops to prevent glaucoma and diet food to help her lose weight. Seriously?! My cat's breathing was clearly strained and she was in obvious pain and their suggestion is eye drops and kibble for an animal that isn't even eating??!!. Again we were sent home and told to give her pain meds and eye drops. That night her breathing became even more strained and she couldn't walk or lift her head. I was so frustrated at Main West Vet's inability to diagnose the problem and help my pet so I began searching online for other vets with more experience. I called Dunnville Veterinarian Clinic and they understood that I needed a diagnosis and got me an apt that same day. I was only there a short time and Dr.Bob was kind and knowledgable and after looking at the X-rays that were taken from Main West Vet he knew things did not look good. To confirm they did an ultrasound (immediately and for a reasonable amount of $ too) but sadly her lung was collapsed but worst yet she also had a tumour on her heart. There was nothing more to do for her and I had to put her down. The vets in Dunnville were highly efficient, kind, and knowledgable and I would highly recommend them to anyone that truly cares about their pet. Keep in mind Main West Vet bills totalled a whopping $828 for onsite blood test and X-ray, no diagnosis, and kept her in pain for several additional days only for me to go to another vet and have to put her down THE VERY NEXT DAY!!  How can they feel good about sending home any animal that clearly is in distress and do nothing for them. Leaving an animal to suffer is just cruel. Worst yet a Main West admin person called me the day after I had to put my cat down to ask how she was!! At that point they already knew I had gone to another vet (I had them transfer the file over) and the Dunnville clinic had already corresponded about the outcome with them. They added insult to injury!!To summarize, if all you require is kibble, vaccinations, or flea meds you are probable safe enough in going to Main West Vet. It is a very busy clinic with a constant lineup of people paying big bucks for cookie cutter treatment and they will coochy-coo your pet. It is important to note that I absolutely don't blame Main West because my pet was ill and ultimately died. (That's life.) What does make me sick to my stomach about the treatment we received at Main West is their nonchalant attitude about an animal in pain, and overly expensive costs for things that clearly didn't help them to provide a diagnosis. It seems they are more concerned with dealing with everyday (volume) pet issues to push as many customers through their door and make as much money as possible. I hope nobody else has their pet endure the days of pain that my cat went through just to have to find another vet to do their job. Read Less
