I have taken both my dogs here on separate occasions, and each time was an utter disappointment. This time around, my dog was in for vomiting blood for 2 days. It's unfortunately a holiday, so I did not have many options. They took him in and advised I should go home and wait for a phone call from a vet once they've assessed him. 4 hours go by, and no update given whatsoever. I decided to call for myself, only to realize reception had no idea what my dog's name is (whether this is a coincidence or not due to volume of patients, I'm still not surprised). They made it clear my dog was "stable" and that other animals visiting the hospital were taking priority over him. When asked what they were doing to monitor him, they were not able to give me any update other than he has blankets and water. I decided after 6 hours of my dog being left in this hospital and not being seen by a vet, it was time to pick him up as clearly his status was not "emergent" and other animals need to take priority. With their Covid-19 restrictions, they were not clear on how they to hand off of your pets. When trying to get my dog back, one of their staff proceeded to yell at myself and mother over entering the vestibule (both wearing masks) when the staff member was clearly struggling to control my well-behaved 8 year old dog. I received little to no customer service or reassurance that my dog was in good hands. Even after picking my dog up I received ZERO update or status on how he actually was for the entire SIX HOURS he was there. I highly suggest if your animal is stable enough, I would drive to another emergency vet clinic. I am an advocate for all veterinarians, and understand their job is not easy in the slightest, especially since my dog alone has had a multitude of health issues in the past and present. However, this hospital and their staff lack basic customer service skills and compassion towards owners and animals of any kind. Read Less

Let me tell you our horror story about this place...Worst place ever to take your beloved pet....i guess people who took there beloved' pets there were not liked as much by the vet Ashley Cook as my cat Tigger was My cat was taken there on June 2nd as she was pregnant and was having complications in delivering her kittens and the vet had to do a procedure on her as her kittens had died inside.   Tigger ended up not coming home as unfortunately it was going to cost over $4,000 for the procedure which i did not have.(as this was not a planned expense or there was not even any kind of payment plan) when my daughter asked for the cat back to take her to our own vet she was told she could not have her and my daughter told them she did not have the  $4,000 to pay as she did not have that kind of money and it was then suggested by the vet why don't you ask a friend to borrow the money ..when my daughter indicated she knew no one with that kind of money she was then informed "'you have 72 hrs to come up with the money and  if you don't come back "I will pay for the procedure myself and keep your cat"...nice vet.. Also my daughter was made to sign the surrender form because of this and if she did'nt there would be cops at my door to make her sign and she would have to surrender the cat.  Makes you wonder if Ashley (the vet) has done this before as she seemed to have this all down pat at what she did and said and knew what she was doing...when i went in there on June 4th (2 days later=within the 72 hrs) they only had my daughters name in the system and nothing whatsoever about my cat (what's to say the procedure was even $4,000 as there is no proof...nothing was even updated in their system and it was like my cat was not even there), after i told the worker what i knew, i was told by her she would look into it and call me as she did not know what happened and she would also contact the vet to find out where she was as no animals were kept there. I got a call the next morning from the person i spoke to telling me.that i would have to contact  the Humanes Society as she could not help me. as this was within the 72 hrs how come i was not asked to pay (you can see how much Ashley really wanted my cat..more fiishiness. ..how come they had my cat and wanted to keep her) and on top of that they would not talk to me and tell me anything about my cat..and then i hit another barrier.when i called the Humanes Soceity ...but what i don't understand is how this vet can adopt my pet or surrender her to the humanes society as someone will be truly lucky enough to get a beautiful loving cat and they only have to pay the $160 adoption fee, all because i couldn't afford to pay the $4,000 the vet wanted .I'm sorry for this being so long but i had to tell the truth about this place regarding our experience as i would not want this to happen to anyone else ... that is why there is a review section.  Also there is no advocate for us.  just ourselves or we have no recourse just barriers.  we miss our cat. dearly and never ever abused her.  Its really unfortunate she even had to go that vet. .So....I had to share our story about Tigger as unfortunately our story is not a happy one regarding this place.  Too bad I was not informed til after by people who have gone there that have more horror stories about this place but this is my story  and they each have their own to tell...so if you value your pet I would not take them there as you may never get them back.. Last weekend I brought my 2 1/2 year old cat in on Friday night.  He looked very unwell and it all happened so suddenly.  He seemed fine Thursday and Friday we came home to him vomiting green bile, looking swollen, eyes barely open and not very mobile.  The staff was very kind.  I have to absolutely give them that!  When we got him to the vet and out of his carrier he started urinating on himself and there was blood in the urine.  This had not happened previously at home, it was the first incident.  We did however tell the vet, we have 3 other cats so there's no way for us to know if he was regularly using the litter and to keep that in mind.  They tested his urine for UTI and Crystals as I'm assuming that's the most common reason for blood in the urine.  Both test came back negative.  Instead of testing for anything else, they told us it could be stress and sent us home with 3 different meds and a $420 bill.  I called them back both Saturday and Sunday because I wasn't seeing any improvement and I was told it was probably because two of the meds were causing sedation.  They didn't seem overly concerned that he hadn't eaten at all or used his litter at all but was still urinating on himself in the cat carrier he was using as a bed.  Sunday they told me to stop one of the meds that was causing the sedation and that he should pep up.  Monday afternoon, when he still wasn't looking much better, we brough him to our regular vet who was finally open only to have to put him down.  It was such a heartbreaking experience.  He was so young and so loved.  Now a week later, as life is slowly returning to normal, the anger is setting in with this clinic.  As nice as they were when we walked in, I still feel betrayed.  When the urine test came back negative, they should have looked for other possibilities instead of dismissing it to maybe stress???  And then charging us quite the amount and for nothing!!  Prolonging our loved one's suffering?  Or maybe even killing him because he may have survived if he had been diagnosed when the symptoms first started!  For those of you who think there are no options when you're stuck in a bind, let me assure you there are!!  Since this experience, I have been advised that King Hopkins Pet Hospital is also a 24hr clinic, but even better because they are not JUST after hours they are open all 24 hours so you can reach them ANYTIME!  From what I've been told, they're prices are much better and they are just as pleasant of people. Ridiculously expensive prices. They are open and waiting if you are unlucky enough to have an emergency with a furry family member when all other clinics are closed. It is basically the only option for an animal emergency during late hours or holidays. The clinic is Very aware of that and their inflated prices reflect it. They can and will help your animal, they just triple the price to do it. Do they love animals? Probably. But they are in it for lakeside real-estate and champagne in hot-tubs, not love of your animal. Get your funds ready. Read Less

On Thursday, July 12 I brought my cat in because I believed something was lodged in his throat and that he was choking. Symptoms came on fast and it definitely sounded like a blocked airway in my opinion. But when I had got there not only did I wait for an hour and a half to see the vet which at 11:30 at night with no one else in the waiting room seemed ridiculous, considering he could barely breathe, and I told them I believe he had something stuck in his throat. I could hea...r them laughing in the back about unrelated things. A technician had come in and basically told me that it was an upper respiratory infection before she had even done any sort of real test, listen to the lungs do any x-rays or anything. I kind of find it hard to believe only because all my cats (I have 4) had been vaccinated for the upper respiratory infection, and I told her that. Then the vet comes in and takes him and does an x-ray just to rule out asthma in the lungs which the x-ray did but at no point ever was she willing to do an x-ray on the throat she told me that he was definitely not choking on something she pumped him full of antibiotics and steroids and sent us on our way. Four days goes by and my cat is still choking and hacking and puking, so I take him to my vet today and She immediately does an x-ray on his throat and sure enough there something lodged in it and has been for the last for 5 days. He’s lost 3 pounds and has a high fever. We were rushed to the Scarborough animal hospital where they tried to get it out but then had to go to the Toronto hospital where he is now because he needs an internal specialist to remove this item because it’s gotten so deep and almost into his lungs and is going to cost us between five and $10,000 to remove it. I realize that surgery was probably the outcome regardless of whether she had caught it or not but the fact that she was so dismissive to me and made me feel like an idiot like I didn’t know the difference between coughing and choking and that she wouldn’t even do an x-ray to rule out the possibility even though I was willing to pay. I am so angry right now that my poor cat has been in such agony for five days that I will never go back to the animal hospital and I urge you all to do the same. My husband has already called and told the clinic and we are waiting for the directors phone call on Thursday but we are not happy to say the least. See more Read Less

I wanted to thank the staff and vet for thier compassion and amazing service yesterday for my wee dog Chance. The vet was out of her car and came over to us to tell us to come right in, before she even got in the doors herself. They have a way of calming your fears and when a cat was brought in on worse condition they were prompt at getting it rushed in to care. The vet was thorough and reassuring that my dog was not dying as I thought in panic mode . My dog was handle with gentle hands and not just flopped around like a rag doll. Which I've seen happen before. Prices are fair and I would recommend this clinic with the highest regard. Truly want to thank each staff member for the care and consideration given to us Best of luck to all who have to endure that helpless feeling when our pets are in distress. We lost our Boo approximately 3 years ago.  Do not take your fur baby!!! I repeat! Do not take your fur baby! From the moment I went in they took my boo ... they came to me suggested oxygen did well and take him to our regular vet over the next few days.... a few minutes later i'm standing in a room waiting and the vet comes in and says have you ever seen him rub his face on the ground? I said yes usually itching had sinus issues.I paid almost $400 (ps not my final bill that was the bill for entry and for oxygen - added charges to put him down brought it to almost 1000 - then so devasted the next day paid for private cremation, foot prints and his own cedar box for his remains), stood their waiting in the room for him to come out. OMG they brought me my baby he was paralized, his rectum popped could move one paw and his head.I was crying so badly and told the female vet my husband didn't even know I left the house - her advise to me? "Welll you could take him home overnight for observation and take him to your regular vet tomorrow." AUFKM??? He was paralized! DO NOT TAKE YOUR FUR BABY HERE! I was so excited when I checked to see where the closest emergency animal hospital was - do not risk it GO TO TORONTO! Three animals passed or were put down while I was there -  I believe my BOO was ill .. I believe he suffered a stroke or seizure - but my boo was alone and this vet I allowed to put a needle in my babies arm to put him down .. he took a breathe and another etc .. the female vet ran out of the room and got another needle because until a few months ago just found out she popped the vein no catheter - so my boos execution took almost 10 minutes - and a word to the vet if I could sue you I would in a heart beat! If anyone has bad experiences and is taking them to court I would give a sworn statement in a minute. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FUR BABIES HERE! Read Less

Over all very helpful and informative, and prices are good. We had a grooming accident at home with our shihtzu, I was completely panicked. We showed up to the clinic and they assured me it was alright and made me feel much better. They were kind to both myself as well as my furbaby, she loved it there. We left with a lot of information we were unaware of before we had went that all of our animals will benefit from in the future. My cat has been treated by ACE twice in the past eight years and has received excellent care. The first time I called when my cat had eaten a lily they were very helpful and after we hung up they did some further research and called me back from their call display to tell me to come in urgently. Because of their excellent care and follow up I had 8 more years with my beloved pet. A few days ago I noticed my cat was failing quickly so we rushed him over. They provided prompt, excellent care. Dr. Barber had treated him with the lily in 08 and remembered us from 8 years ago. This time we found out he was in kidney failure. Dr. Barber patiently and sympathetically explained all of our options and the pros and cons of each. We were able to take him home for one last night before returning to say goodbye. Dr. Varley saw us the next day and she was so kind and empathetic. Every single staff member was exceedingly kind and sympathetic and made the worst day of my life bearable. Yes is it s bit more expensive but they are very upfront with the fees and your options. They also have an in-house lab so you get test results quickly and can act right away. Read Less

My cat started exhibiting some strange behaviour and we decided to bring him to the Animal Emergency Clinic, just to be safe. When we arrived, we signed in and the receptionist explained what was going to happen and asked me some questions. We were shown into a room where they examined my cat, Buster, and the vet discussed some options with us as to what may be wrong. One of her hypotheses ended up being right when he was later diagnosed with a fatal disease, but she gave us a few options and some treatment options as well. They did bloodwork quickly and Buster was back with me shortly thereafter. While they weren't able to help Buster in the long-term, they did help to provide me with a lot of useful information to take away and instructions for what to do should the issues get worse. I would recommend this clinic to anyone who cannot get to their regular clinic. Beware, the prices are steep but for the well being of your pet, its well worth it! Read Less

This had got to be the greatest vet ever! I only wish it was a regular vet opened 7 days a week instead of an emergency after-hours clinic.  We brought our dog here one Sunday afternoon after she was constantly vomiting.  They were very kind and empathetic to our needs.  We had already brought her to our vet and did blood work, xrays etc...but no cause to the vomiting/abdominal pain was found.  The emergency clinic was very forgiving with certain fees as they saw the previous medical records adding up to almost $1000!  The staff, vet tech and vet were so caring and kind to my dog.  They gave us many options, kept her for a few hours to monitor, repeated xrays, gave antibiotics and even prepared us gently for letting go.  Fortunately, my dog survived!  I truly love this place and wish I never wasted any time going all the way to the Emergency Clinic in Toronto (on Sheppard Ave) where they charge you for every little thing (gauze, needle, piece of kleenex, water etc...I'm exaggerating...but that's how I felt!  It's truly a damn shame!)  Anyway, I really respect this place and the people who work here.  They really care about your pet and will do everything possible to help!

Read Less

So disappointed in this place. My cat had crystals and a blockage and they treated him and catheterized him for 24 hours. We brought him home the next day only to have it block again. After spending a large sum of money, they charged me to unblock him again. While performing the procedure, we were in the adjoining room listening to them talk about my cat like he didn’t matter. The vet even said to me that I should consider euthanizing him. Took him to my regular vet who is now treating him and keeping him catheterized for a few days to ensure he can urinate and come home for good. Read Less

From arrival to picking up Wilson's ashes and ink paw prints, we had an excellent experience during a very difficult time for our family. Thank you all, so much. The Tomkinson Family Read Less
