Dr Sweetman is the only Veterinarian in Windsor who cares for exotic pets like Bearded dragons. She is excellent. She answers questions and has saved my Bearded dragon Lucy when she had a respiratory infection by prescribing antibiotic injections. Frog the bearded dragon has a necrotic tail tip. First off, Dr. Kate Sweetman is very good. Ive been taking my ferrets there for years. However recently, I had an incident Im not happy about. I brought my ferrets in for a check up and approximately a week later noticed they had fleas. Seeing as my ferrets do not go outdoors and have no contact with other animals, the most probable explanation is that one of them picked up a flea at the clinic. I called to notify them and was told that however likely it was they picked up a flea from the clinic, it is also possible I myself carried a flea into my home via my clothing. *insert laugh* In this way, they absolve themselves of any responsibility and in the end, I had to pay 150$ for flea medication for both ferrets. As a loyal customer, this seemed shady and unfair. I will continue taking my ferrets to Dr Sweetman because she provides good care but just a warning for those of you taking your pets to the clinic during flea season.. try to limit their movement to minimize the chances of coming home with fleas and then having to pay out the whazoo. Approximately 1 1/2 months ago, I brought my 36 YEAR old cockatiel to see Dr. Kate. He had fallen off of his perch, and was having difficulty climbing back on. After a VERY thorough and gentle exam, Dr. Kate discovered he had severe arthritis in his back, along with a broken wing. She carefully went through options what might be able to be done, but said his age and physical issues may not be to his advantage. This was said with a fantastic bedside manner. At no time did she speak to me like I was illiterate, nor was she racist. Calling out the race card, without any validation, does not reflect well on that finger pointing. Also, some haters out there do not understand the complexities of dealing with creatures...fur or feather. By the way, Dr Kate has returned EVERY one of my inquiries, not once ignoring my concerns. Dr. Sweetman is a professional. The only clinic I could find that treated exotic animals. My Leopard gecko developed a very serious eye infection in both eyes, essentially making him blind which is practically a death sentence. The first eye went back to normal, with use of an antibiotic cream, but the other eye had swelled to triple the size. Even worse, there were multiple layers of skin and puss. The doctor didn't skip on treatments. He genuinely wanted you make sure the lizard was completely healed. Even though it took at least 10 visits over the course of a couple weeks (the cornea rolling is a very slow and steady process; you can't rush it or it can tear out the eye underneath.) Dr. Sweetman only charged me for one visit, after having at least 10 and the medicine I needed to purchase. He would always show me hands on the routine and husbandry to work with my lizards at home. The one time Dr. Sweetman wasn't there, his daughter was, who was equally skilled. All the staff is very friendly and remembers you buy name. 5/5, would recommend wot anyone with dogs or cats in the Downtown area, or anyone with exotic pets in general.
