I am appalled and saddened by the way the Humane Society, has been handling a consistent abuse/neglect/animal cruelty case in our neighborhood. If you call you have to leave a message, and they do not return your calls. Multiple people have called and complained in our neighborhood, 2 witnesses have tons of proof that this is taking place. I have contacted the WECHS myself numerous times, as well as others, I even emailed back and forth with Melanie. The final result we all got is basically that we must be making these stories up. The truth of the matter is when you have to depend on the Humane Society, they are not always dependable to be there in cases like this, and if you are hoping they will come out and investigate in a timely fashion, they won't. They have let all of us and the animals involved down time and time again. If you contact the SPCA, which we all did, they refer you to the nearest Humane Society in the area. There is no going above in hopes the Humane Society takes this more seriously. One thing I have learned, they Stand for the Rights of SOME ANIMALS, depends on which ones they want to stand for. If you want to adopt a pet this is the place to go, you want to donate your time and effort, or money they will gladly accept, but I won't be donating anymore to this organization. Read Less

After multiple attempts to reach out to this organization, pleading with them through e-mails and phone calls after reporting a serious, on-going situation of animal abuse that requires immediate attention/investigation, this agency has deeply frustrated both myself and my neighbours involved who have first hand witnessed the cruelty. We also made contact with the SPCA and local city authorities who told us to go through the channel of the Humane Society, basically giving us further red tape to go through that lead back to the same dead end. My one neighbour has made several attempts to get this particular case dealt with over the course of 3-4 years now. This is absolutely pathetic. I am very saddened that very little has been done at all to aide these poor suffering animals and they will probably die at the hands of their abusive owner or continue to live in suffering. The humane society has pretty much proven to us that they don't care much to help us save these dogs and get them out of harms way. This is a two-faced agency who doesn't give help when it is in dire need. Shame on you for saying you stand for the rights of animals. The way this situation has been neglected is disgusting to me. Never supporting them ever again. Don't trust them to help you fight animal cruelty when you really need it. πŸ‘Ž Read Less

I adopted a kitten this past weekend. The service there was fine. I was able to interact with the kitten I wanted to adopt and actually worked out to adopt her for the next day (she is 4 month). She wasn’t at the humane society that long. They got her the day before we went to go see her. Unfortunately a few days after bringing her home, her incision appeared to have lump so I immediately brought her to a vet. He then told me that whoever did the surgery did a terrible job. With that information, she clearly got spayed the day she got there and wasn’t even 48 hours until we got there and then adopted her. She ended up with a really bad infection in her muscle that they ended up having to completely remove. I was told if I didn’t bring her , she wouldn’t have lived another day. I don’t think after an animal gets spayed or neutered that they allow them to be adopted right away. They should keep them for a few days after the surgery to make sure the incision is healing properly before having anyone take the animal home. I had informed the humane society about what happened and they proceeded to tell me they couldn’t do anything about it because I chose to go elsewhere for her to get the surgery done. I’m not too sure who would bring their pet back to where they did it wrong to begin with that caused problems. They said they wouldn’t help with the bill because it was no longer in their hands. I wasn’t happy with the way they handled things. Also was not given medication to bring home for her or a cone so she doesn’t touch her incision. She’s a great kitten but the bill was definitely not. Oh my goodness WECHS is so amazing! We adopted our cockapoo, Duke from them 7 years ago and Duke is still going strong today! We moved to London 5 years ago and just yesterday we travelled back to Windsor to adopt a new dog from them again. Her name is Ocean. They have been so supportive and helpful to us since we were travelling 2 hours to come there. We had Facebook messenger contact with them everyday for a week before we came and they got our adoption done for Ocean in just a few hours. They treat their animals wonderfully. All the cats have little cat condos and all the dogs get their own area with access to an outdoor area to use the washroom anytime (So they don't have accidents where they sleep) this was very different than we've seen at shelters near our own home. Their rates are amazing and the staff is so kind, friendly and helpful. I would recommend WECHS to anyone and I will always come back for future pets! Whenever I can donate supplies or money to an animal foundation, it will be them! Thank you so much for Duke and Ocean. No words could express our gratitude enough.Read Less

Overall I had a good experience when adopting Rosie. Although it started out a little rocky. I had set an appointment to come all the way from Cambridge to see her, and when I got there no one knew I was coming and all the people who could bring Rosie out were gone. I was basically told I would have to come back the next day even though I had just driven 3+ hours. Eventually someone was found and I was able to see her. After when I was getting ready to leave and standing in the lobby waiting to see her file, many employees were there as well and non of them were saying good thing about the poor dog it was as if they were completely trying to steer me away from adopting. Also no one seemed to be on the same page about how behaviour, some said she was crazy and wild and couldn't be trusted, some said she was okay but just couldn't be around any other animals and some said that she is just plain bas (She is actually a perfect angle and loves the cat and dog in the house, all she needed was some love and attention). When I came back for a meet and greet with the dogs she would be interacting with everything went better then I expected and I was then given a lot of information that no one seemed to have the previous visit. I even talked to the vet over the phone who was a delight and happy to help me with my questions about her allergies. And when we finally came to pick her up everything was all ready for us to go which I was thoroughly impressed by! Someone had donated Rosie a wonderful bed that was then given to us as well and we got about a weeks worth of food to do her until we could get more. I would have 100% rated my experience 5 stars if it had not have started out so bad because I was almost turned completely off after that. I am glad I didn't give up on her though she is a dream dog!Read Less

The workers in the small animal room are pleasant. The cages for the animals are small. However, the receptionists are honestly the most unpleasant people I have ever met. The lady on the phone talked to me like I was stupid when I inquired about a question, and then did not answer any of my questions, but continued to act like my call was an inconvenience to her. When I brought my guinea pigs in to be returned two weeks later (because the bonding process with my current piggie did not go well) the receptionists were talking about me and my Sister (who came with me) and pretty much rolling their eyes while we were standing right there. I recently (August 14) brought a sweet little kitten home from the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society. Before I got her, I was told she had an upper respiratory infection but that she was being treated. Her medical reports I was given indicate that as of August 13th there was "no ocular/nasal discharge, no sneezing; okay to discontinue meds." Fast forward to August 14th, I was told that she was completely treated for the infection, but that she was still sneezing a little. They said the sneezing will go away in a few days and she was okay. I took her to the vet today (August 18) for her booster shot to find out that she can't even have it because she is still sick!! The vet said she was not treated properly or long enough, and they should have not let her go while she was still sick! $213 later for medications and whatnot, I have a kitten who is still sick and can't receive a booster shot until 2 weeks after the date she's due!! Why on earth would you send a kitten home who is clearly still sick, just for the new pet owner to not even be able to get her vaccinated properly!! And do not tell me my kitten is fine when it is obvious that she isn't. This is not creating a good reputation for the humane society, and I am not one happy adopter at all!! I strongly suggest that you find a way to remedy this situation when it is your fault she was never treated properly in the first place!Read Less

I don't think they screen for Lyme Disease. We've now had two dogs from the humane society and both have tested positive for Lyme Disease. One while we thought may have been our fault since he had been bit by a tick or two, we learned that he couldn't have gotten Lyme Disease while we had him (only in 6 months at the time), and our current also has Lyme Disease and has never been anywhere with us he could have gotten it. If the humane society is doing proper blood tests they either aren't checking for Lyme Disease or they are knowingly adopting pets out who have the disease. Either way, something needs to be fixed.

Terrible. Will never get an animal from here ever again. Read Less

Charged double for a "diva" fee. Their animal behaviourists have no idea how to handle dogs. Hence, when I brought my dogs for a meet and greet, despite their best efforts to discourage me from doing so, it did not go well. They refused to allow me to hold even my own dogs leash and I did ask numerous times. I believe they had this dog on hold for someone. Why else would he be marked as adopted when he was available, charged double the fee and have their behaviourist call me 40 minutes before my appointment time to tell me she doesn't think it's a good idea.
